Theres lots of P Zeros, which are you considering? Ive tried a few and dont really rate them too much, the Neros are fairly average IMO, the Rosso are good in the dry but a bit nasty in the wet IIRC, and Ive had "track" Corsa dry tyres which were really rather good and the wets arent bad either but both wear very quickly. TBF Ive never used Asymmetricos with Direzionale fronts so wouldnt be able to comment on whether they make a big difference run as a set

He's asking about R1-R's Im currently running a 285/35/19 at the back and a 255/40/18 on the front without any issues ........ how much difference does there actually have to be for the TC to play up??
-
Power is just a number produced by a calculation though, the way the car drives should be what you are measuring improvements by. If it bothers you then ask the operator to put the ambient temperature up a few degrees before your next run

Could be a quote from Nissan 200SX Owners Club, about 3/4 years ago. It will get worse too.

Why dont you take out one of their Demo/Secondhand cars and see if it does the same thing?? Cant say Ive ever noticed it And a flywheel failing after 23K is poor, very poor IMO
-
Yep, you need more aggressive offsets IMO, you want to be looking at 15's rather than 30's at the least and probably a bit wider too. Bearing in mind a new set arent much more than twice that, perhaps its worth giving Rarerims a call to see if they might be able to help out

That makes F1 crashes look tame! My favourite MR2 youtube is my friend Roy @ Santa Pod ......... Weight distribution anyone??

They already have ........... true story below: This was Le Mans 2007, Friday in Arnage, where all the nice cars go pose in the afternoon. We are strolling down the main drag, and having just seen an F40 at the top of the road we spot another and go over to have a closer look. Noticed immediately that this car is a bit different - the intercoolers, lights, exhaust and even the bodywork and colour are different. I confirm this with my mate Yakko, then I notice a bloke wander over to it with the keys in his hand. Conversation goes like this: Doc: "Alright mate, your car is it??" Bloke: "Yeah it is, what do you reckon??" D: "Well, its nice, but we noticed the lights, intercoolers and stuff are different from an F40. What is it - an MR2 conversion or something??" B: "Errm, well its actually an F40LM special edition" Yep, I had just accused the bloke with probably the best example of an F40 ANYWHERE* of having an MR2. Fortunately he was a top feller - stood and spoke to us for about 3/4 hour about this and his other cars (he actually named his son after one of his Porsches) and then let said 8 year old jump in and fire the fezza up for us and the assembled crowd. Which was cool. * The car was an F40 LM, of which only 17 were made - see here: http://www.supercars.net/cars/3318.html for details. This particular one had just come back from a full mechanical overhaul at the factory, and must have been around the £500K mark. Definitely not an MR2.

The only thing that would affect a flywheel like that is a manufacturing fault Id have though - part of it has dropped off or as mounting has come loose, but Ive never heard opf that happening on any car. My money would be on the clutch as its 100 times more likely to have an issue, and they will be checking that when they look at the flywheel

Sorry, my sensible bit was obviously missed. OP, HTH

Im sorry, I cant see how the forum line (which seems to be laid down by Ekona) is that mismatched tyres are likely to cause an accident but partworns of unknown history are OK, it makes no sense to me. Maybe Im wrong to single Ekona out, I could have just quoted a thread but he is by far the most vocal and bullish on this matched tyres thing. Its not me stirring things up either - your comments on the last thread were spot on IMO, its what Ive been trying to say: and everyone (including me) agreed but then everything kicked off again. Why was that? My opinion (formed from experience, not comic books and drunken dreams) is as valid as anyone elses - Id far sooner be running mismatched rubber than partworns, the OP can take that or ignore it. Ive not said anyone is trying to make themselves sound like an idiot though, Ive just said what I think and I dont think thats unreasonable.
-
OK, you want science and FACT: Old tyres or tyres that have not been stored properly will not perform as well as new tyres. If you can tell by looking at a part worn tyre how old it is and whether the tyre has been kept out of sunlight in a fairly controlled temperature then go for it. If you can tell that the sidewalls are as strong and as thick as they should be just by looking then again, you are going to save money. If you want to buy something that has been quality checked as fit for purpose and effectively carries a public liability insurance with it then buy new. You clearly didnt read what I posted, I didnt mention anything about mismatched tyres. I didnt say that you had said partworns were bad, thats my view. Ive always said matched tyres are best, I just disagree with the hysteria that seems to be directed at anyone who doesnt choose to run them, as it doesnt fit with my experience or that of any other car club Im part of. Instead you are off on another rant, not taking into account anything anyone else has said, blowing your own trumpet and drowning out everyone else. No, I got pi**ed off when a guy was unneccesarily rude to me, Ive got no problem with people saying they dont like my car as you can see from various posts on here. Quite different.
-
So its OK to buy and run partworns with unknown history, but running mismatched tyres is potentially life threatening?? Jesus. I know you are all about balance rather than overall performance, but thats even worse than when you claimed 4 poor quality matched tyres were worse than 2x2 high quality mismatched tyres as the former would make the car more predictable. Yeah, predictable that its going to lock up while braking or aquaplane unexpectedly. And since you asked, some recent quotes: "what's the point putting tyres on that are just going to dull the performance just to save a couple of hundred quid?" "I refuse to be drawn into pointless arguments with stupid people, it's a waste of everyone's time." - this was actually an amicable thread where some good points were made, points you chose to completely ignore and steamroller over. Toyo T1-R's are apparently "rubbish crap" and "budget" as are FK452's. I look forward to you completely ignoring my comments and saying what you are going to anyway. OP - sorry for taking your subject off course, I personally wouldnt recommend using partworns if you can avoid it.
-
Having just read another ferocious attack by Ekona on anyone who disagrees with him regarding tyres, can I ask why this guy isnt being picked up on using partworns when apparently mismatched tyres will cause the holocaust?? Anyway, TE37's WILL have the width stamped on them somewhere, and generally will have the offsets (which doesnt actually affect tyre width) on a sticker although sometimes it will have come off. Trying to guess the width from the tyre doesnt work as different tyres have different sidewall designs. Simply put, you could go +/- 10 on the width (i.e 275 can be replaced by 285 or 265) without any major problems, although if you want the perfect width for the wheel youll need to whip a tyre off and measure from rim to rim. And unfortunately being a massive wheel geek, I can tell you that your wheels are either 10.5J ET22/ET15, or 9.5J ET40/35/22 unless they dont fit

Perhaps this is the other thing - Ive been drifting for about 6-7 years, so will push and exceed the limits of tyres more than most - Ive also had experience of a lot more brands of tyres than most due to eating them up within 10 minutes of putting them on My driving style generally benefits from a very grippy front end and a slightly looser rear - the mere thought of understeer makes me shiver, but oversteer is part of the game - and as such I always run my best tyres on the front, its just the way I drive. I had some Vrede Sessantas on my rear, after seeing the recommendations on here and TBH I didnt like them, I found they broke away without much warning, particularly in the wet - Ive swapped them for some SP9000's and prefer them on just about all counts. Thats not to say the SP's have more grip, just that they are more suited to what I expect from a tyre.
-
I have actually seen it all now, someone recommending buying cheaper, less grippy tyres so that all 4 match and the car is more "balanced", but wont stop or go round corners as quickly . Theres a vast difference between ditchfinders and Falkens though. I would whole heartedly recommend someone run 4 Falkens over 2 PZR and 2 Falkens, I've been there and the car was an arse to handle, even if it was just for a week or two until I had Falkens all round. I also said nothing about all out speed of the car, I said it had overall less grip. The feel of the car was greatly improved with the same tyres all round and thus confidence and cornering speed increased. I think from now on we will just have to lock all these tyre threads as we wont ever agree Your man Ekona was describing FK452's as "budget" and saying no-one should ever consider running them on a car the other day ............ Im not disagreeing, its just this matched tyres thing is argued so vociferously on this forum that the advice is IMO bordering on being oversimplified, Im just trying to add a little balance. If I have more grip on the front axle than the rear Ill drive to it, and surely more overall grip is always a good thing, so following that through good mismatched tyres are better (for me at least) than bad matched ones. Id actually say that unmatched wear (brand new front tyres, tired rears) is more of an issue, but thats a whole other argument. And that wasnt aggressive, I really cant see how you thought it was

I have actually seen it all now, someone recommending buying cheaper, less grippy tyres so that all 4 match and the car is more "balanced", but wont stop or go round corners as quickly . I know Ekona will probably attack me on sight by now, but as Ive said many times, FFS think about what you are saying. 4 high quality, brand new matched tyres will always be best, for sure. But 2 RE050's on the front and 2 Dunlop Sportmax on the back (a mismatch no less!) will give better grip and predictability that 4 Nankang NS2's (not a terrible tyre) will. I know, Ive tried. Simple fact is every time you drive your car conditions are different - there might be more or less grip, the road might be wet or icy, it might be a windy day. If you are able to adapt to these changes then you are also able to adapt to differing grip levels afforded by your tyres. If you cant adjust to these changes you shouldnt be on a road in the first place. As for people like slimjim up there, of course he has noticed a massive change in his cars dynamics - hes taken off tired budget tyres and fitted the best. Would he still be raving about the car if he had fitted RE050 to the back and PS2 to the front? Of course he would, its the upgrade from poor to high quality hes noticed, not the fact that all 4 tyres are the same. So while I agree that matching tyres is a good idea, this claim that your car will spontaneously combust as soon as two different brands hit the rims is frankly rubbish.

Hello! The RX8 is a contemporary of the Z33, and the RX7 and 200SX stopped being produced in 2002 when the Z33 was first built. Why are these cars 300KG lighter when they arent really very different - the S15 200SX is made by the same company! Even a 2009 911 is under 1400KGs, a Cayman is under 1300

You dont fancy coming and moderating on the SXOC do you?? We need a couple of enforcer types Not been on here too much, but anyone who does a moderator spot for 4 years has my respect
-
I think perhaps a different approach might answer this question a bit better .......... RX8 - engine weight 122KG , overall weight 1350KG RX7 - engine weight 122KG, overall weight 1270KG 200SX - engine weight 150KG, overall weight 1250KG 350Z - engine weight 160KG, overall weight 1550KG Sure there might be a couple more airbags in the Z33 (apart from the RX8), but there is 2 less seats than in the 200SX or RX8 ..........

Blue Coupe, Linton, Cambridge - possibly widearch?

Were you driving through Abington, about 5/5.30pm on Friday? 313 blue Zed with Chrome lip Volks?? If so, Ive seen you! Your car is narrower but a shitload cleaner than mine -
I think this is the problem. Your diatribes come across as "Im right, how dare you question me" rather than helpful advice from someone who is willing to listen to others. T1-R's are not "Rubbish crap", hell, they were pretty much the tyre of choice for the SXOC (RWD, 300hp coupes) for most of the last 6 years - indeed they are whats on the front of my driftcar at the moment as I feel they are decent in the wet and arent bankbreakers. You clearly know what you are talking about and Im sure your advice has proven invaluable to other people on loads of occasions, but there are other people out there who also have valid experience, and they dont deserve to be shouted down just for expressing an opinion.
-
On a £30K sports car, yes they are. prove it then go price some up. They are mid-range, in both price and performance. The OP asked for 'The Best Tyres'........not The Best Value.... Once you take Price out of the equation, there is no contest.......... Id have to agree with that, I think calling a T1R a budget tyre is harsh, but they arent a patch on an RE050 or PS2. You do tend to get what you pay for. That said I dont really like Vrede's very much and would probably take FK452's over them - the loss of traction is more progressive on the 452 I found, although the Vrede is marginally better in the wet. Can I have my cat back from inamongst your pigeons??

This is 19x9 ET20, standard arch and camber I believe ........... And 19x9 ET -1 (front) with a fair amount of arch work Id personally go with a 9.5 ET10 on the front and a 10 ET0 on the rear, heres my car with 9J ET 20 front and 10J ET15 rear.
