  1. Best and easiest way is just to boot it out of a turning - if one wheel spins its open, if the back end of the car comes round its LSD. Open diffs can still leave two black lines, LSD's when knackered dont always turn the other wheel If it was mechanical youd know about it by now too, mainly from the clonking
  2. Eh? You get some JDM's with an open diff? What a rip!
  3. The comedown from a night spent on Redbull is as bad as any drug. DO NOT LIKE.
  4. I can turn VDC off at the push of a button, same place TCS on other models What you are pressing doesnt stop the brakes firing on the front wheels when the car thinks its understeering. The only way to stop that is to pull the ABS fuse
  5. Blimey, never knew that existed Bit high end for your average drifter TBH, remember when we were doing the donut world record and the safety guys said "anyone with airbags needs to switch them off". Looked round, 31 cars, not a single airbag between them I should also add a couple of points - any land you can get on (and arent bolting a gate behind you) counts as public highway and you will be banned if caught, a mate of mine got 18 months ban for 2 minutes of skidding about in a Tescos carpark. If you are caught on the road, punishments vary from a light ticking off to a ban, word is police are getting harsher on it as more people take to the streets though. Carlimit, which was mentioned earlier I dont believe is a drifting experience, they will probably teach you how to get out of trouble rather than into it - the best "experiences" I know are driftracing, drifttutor and Driftone (oop north), all three are run by guys that know what they are doing ........ the drifttutor line up is as good as any Ive seen actually, impressed with that Finally, it seems the perception in here is one of chavs standing round in a Maccy D's carpark watching an old 3 series do donuts ........ this is a lot more like what youll find the real deal up to, I was driving the day this was filmed, watch from 1:25: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIb1l23zl84
  6. It definitely seems to remove any ability for humour that you might have had before
  7. Sounds like the biggest risk at the moment is being hit by a stray shopping trolly or VTR Saxo coming the other way having just exited the Maccies drivethrough Reminds me of another street drifting saying amongst drifters ....... its like w@anking, we all do it but you dont invite 50 chavs to come and film you when you are at it
  8. Ice/frost is a very good example, when I was a lad I didnt think it made any difference, I now drive with the fear of god in my heart when its even a smidgen below 3 degrees Any incidents Ive had on the road have generally been due to something unexpected happening, the more experience you have the more you expect
  9. Will you bet the price of a new viscous diff on that? 8 sets of rear tyres in 13 months says I do, yes.
  10. Errr, not really. Brakes arent really important in drifting, we dont advise handbrake use for a learner and the car is fine as it is. A 350Z is a very capable driftcar straight out of the box Standalone TCS or ABS is seriously bad advice Im afraid, you dont want any TCS or ABS at all (ABS doesnt work going backwards ) ....... and in fact where can you buy standalone ABS? Best bet is to go to http://www.driftworks.com/forum and check out the DWYB days at Santa Pod - they are easily the best place to learn, big spaces, nothing to hit and people on hand to advise you. Street drifting is bad, but thats not to say it doesnt happen ........ but generally you want a fair idea of what you are doing before you even consider doing anything on "closed or private roads" Be aware that whilst Ekona is dead right, it wont kill the car (unless you hit something) it will wear tyres and clutches, it will put strain on the engine, it will make the car run hot and it will exacerbate any problems you already have. That said, its about as much fun as you can have in a car and if you are in the right environment there isnt really any risk
  11. I found one on my convertible S13 ........ yep, you guessed it, electric blue neons that no-one know the car had
  12. Yep, 100%. The feeling of when its about to let go, or the feeling of knowing you are going to get it back after its let go, or even the feeling of impending doom cant be taught. Ive also crashed enough (on track and on the road) that I dont panic anymore when a car is out of control, couple that with the fact that I know its coming long before my 18 year old self would have done and Id hope its made a me a safer driver. Ive also come to appreciate that cars cant be replaced with pocket money and banging them up really isnt a great idea. Remember though, the biggest thing that dvelops as you get older is the self preservation gene, Id be interested to see what people who started driving in their 30's say on this one
  13. Poor lamb eh? This is interesting, its pay WITHOUT endorsements: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/blogs/mirror-football-blog/The-Top-50-highest-paid-players-in-world-football-revealed-in-full-featuring-Cristiano-Ronaldo-Lionel-Messi-Kaka-Wayne-Rooney-David-Beckham-John-Terry-Ashley-Cole-Wayne-Bridge-and-Ronaldinho-article324875.html and seems that the Champions League teams arent that far off each other
  14. Well, you can pull the plugs from under the bonnet, takes me about 5 seconds these days My TCS switch (import) is down under the steering wheel by my right knee
  15. Hmmm, Xavi is on 7.5m a year and I bet Iniesta isnt far behind, and knowing Spain I bet they dont get taxed 40% on it
  16. The Premier League is nowhere near as bad as Spain or Italy for diving, and as for South America ....... youd think they were only allowed to field epileptics Its actually the same for racism as well, we have next to nothing when compared with Spain, for instance, just the press have latched onto it and are blowing it out of proportion. As for "ruining" English football, its generally accepted that the PL is the best in the world, with the best players playing the best football to watch. Im old enough to remember the period after Heysel when we got banned from Europe, and the standard we see week in, week out now is like a different game. Money has come into football, but its come into football globally, not just the PL.
  17. Does that comment mean that the Alfa's are unreliable then? My business partner had a 159 for 3 years from new, the only problem it had was one of the light clusters stopped working but that was an easy fix, other than that it was very good. Quite juicy on the 1.9TD, the 2.4TD is the one to go for though as its fairly quick and sounds like a V6 too, although Ive heard good things about the 1750 engine too
  18. "Good" handling family sized FWD cars for me include the Mondeo's, older Focuses, 159's and Breras for sure (and you can just stare at them when they are parked), I havent driven a C30 or a Civic so cant really comment. Focus and Mondeo ST's (particularly diesel ones) are pretty difficult to beat as an all round package TBH, quick, good to drive, comfortable and reliable
  19. Fair play to Evra, Suarez refuses to shake his hand, hes got every right to rub his face in it when they lose.
  20. You are getting 350 whp from stock turbos?? Stock fuelling as well? Skyline diffs dont fit as such but you must be able to find someone who would change the crownwheel in a 350 diff Id have thought.
  21. The standard diff is surprisingly good for drifting, Id try with that first and if you want something harder make the change then
  22. Never run a shimmed diff myself but know people who have, it definitely works if you get it done properly. TBH I find my diff locks pretty hard, Id probably only consider replacing it with a plated diff if I was looking to upgrade personally as its then 100% predictable
  23. Sorry, it just winds me up when people post sweeping statements like "RWD is far superior overall" and then in the next sentence say "Ive never owned an FWD car". HOW CAN YOU KNOW THEN?? TBF this site isnt so bad for it, but the number of people Ive had tell me how to drift when they dont actually own a car at all, or that an exhaust and air filter have added 40hp to their car, or suggest that a VQ35 into a 200SX for instance is "easy mate, could do it in a weekend" becomes quite frustrating. Giving advice without actually having experience defeats the whole object of a BB for me. Believe it or not, there was once an argument on Driftworks where this actually happened. Still the single most incredible thread Ive seen, you wouldnt believe it.
  24. As he said yesterday, him and Milan Mandaric are both multi, multi millionaires paying millions in tax each year. Would they really risk it all over £40K?
  25. The fact that youve never actually owned an FWD car and Ive still got the best handling one Ive driven as my daily, parked next to a track prepped 200SX and a 350Z on coilovers would suggest Im better qualified to comment, yes. is definitely not true, everything Ive listed as "good" (GTI-6, 205GTI, Teggy Type R) will oversteer rather than understeer as their main characteristic. Difficult to believe if you havent driven them, but trust me. ..... if you trail brake anywhere after the apex (unless left foot braking for rally/drift purposes) then you arent doing it right ........ anyway, trail braking is all about the front wheels, not the rears anyway, doesnt matter which are driven. Dude, its a direct quote from two posts ago, you cant claim you said something different. Yes there is, I own it. Its a standard 306 GTI-6 that cost me £1000 which now has brand new OE suspension and bushes, running Yokohama Parada tyres. I also own 10K's worth of 350Z with £1000 of tyres and £1000 of suspension and in pretty much every respect bar possibly outright grip due to the much bigger and better tyres the 6 handles better. Thats my opinion but its shared by 4/5 other people who have driven both cars, including my brother who has a sorted Evo8 and the 10 or so former FWD haters on the SXOC who have bought a 6 and loved it. You can talk about homologation, track layout and whatever as much as you like, but the Zed should whip the 6 and it doesnt. Im not looking for an argument, but you cant make sweeping statements like "RWD is far superior overall" when you dont actually own anything FWD (apart from the 308 you bought since the last post ) Im also not saying one is better than the other (for the third time), just dont write off FWD till youve tried a good one.
