  1. Remember as well that brand new tyres can often be quite slippy for the first couple hundred miles from the release agent they are coated with (unless you do a massive burnout of course)
  2. So you had mixed tyres and now they are matched the TCS is kicking in? No further comment on that Its possible the rolling radius of the wheels has been changed, either through wear or a different tyre profile, theoretically the system is sensitive enough to notice and intervene. You arent ging to die regardless of what others say, but you might find youll have to replace the fronts as well to get the radius matched back up again. Can one of the first two posters here explain how having mismatched tyres would cause the TCS to kick in on what sounds like relatively easy cornering? The tyres will only slip when they reach the limit of grip, and with RE050A's and MPSS we all know thats pretty far out there ............. this has to be down to radius, unless hes spinning up everywhere.
  3. Peronsally I think you sound a touch greedy - the salary was obviously enough a couple of years ago for you to take the job, and 5% of payrise and a 10% bonus is bloody good anywhere at the moment However, Id add that very few people get rises without asking for them
  4. I had a D5 Volvo S40 as a hire car just before Christmas and was pleasantly surprised by it, I imagine the Focus equivalent is equally good.
  5. The supra is reasonable, you show me something else that will do 450hp with basic upgrades, they arent common and prices have shot up in the last few years and the R34 is a pretty rare and very good car that will also see 350hp without breaking a sweat. Id be amazed if the S15 is standard at that money, even if it isnt there are not that many tidy Spec-R's around and the 200SX price is just comedy gold, I should know, Im the owners club chairman The 350 is a lot of car for the money but its not cheap to run, and bear in mind that since an 02 DE was imported there have been 3 facelifts, 2 new engines and a whole load of UK cars come onto the market, the nice thin is that the "bottom end" cars arent actually that far removed rom the newest ones, at least not dynamically speaking. Drifters are tight as arseholes BTW, short of the guys that compete you wont find them spending more than £2K on a car so its not them buying up £5/6K motors.
  6. Wasnt Cal nearly a second quicker at one stage though? Still cant believe hes stuck on a satellite bike ........ but then Alex Espargaro has it even worse
  7. Sadly one of the lads in the Peadobus has veto'd the idea, pretty poor show seeing as the rest of us are driving down with the word "C*nt" on the graphics. They have come up with another idea but its nowhere near as epic Were getting the 1020 chunnel on Weds morning, if anyone fancies a convoy, let me know
  8. Has potential to go viral this one The spacers will affect unsprung weight but by very little, you shouldnt notice any effect on acceleration or suspension BUT I did notice less accuracy and feel in the handling when I fitted 20mm's to mine, thought it strange as Ive never had the same result fitting spacers to anything else. That said, Im now running ridiculous wheels and 25mm spacers and dont think the car has ever handled better so who knows
  9. Having driven a 700hp one and a couple of 500hp ones in the wet and living to tell the tale, maybe it was Read this thread and frankly theres a lot of crap on here - through drifting, tracking and having many jap cars over the years I like to think Ive had more experience than most and the advice you keep hearing is right - the car wont kill you itself, you need to make something bad happen. The better the tyres you have the less likely that incident is going to occur, and in my experience MPSS are the best, and the RE050A's I run are a close second. I havent noticed any aquaplaning and indeed, on a very wet day at Blyton Park about a year ago the car and tyres were exceptional, my laptimes were only slightly slower than that in the dry. And it was pretty wet .......... I remember way back when I was 20 and got my first 200SX, it literally took nearly 18 months before I put my foot down as the car inspired respect, its likely you will be the same in the Zed. Just take your time and learn the car, with the VDC its difficult to get yourself into trouble anyway, before you know it youll be steering into oversteer in 4th gear without a thought
  10. Dont want to be an arse, but you dont hear about 41K cars with holes in the engine block that often, certainly not high spec units like the VQ. As I said, if it wasnt making a hell of a racket and vibrating like a bastard before it exploded then theres something reet fishy there ...........
  11. My last three mechanical efforts have resulted in (this was all on a 200SX BTW): Had to get a temp sensor on an inlet manifold, unfortunately it was two weeks from taking off to refitting so forgot what pipe went where. RESULT: Blew head gasket without actually moving car Relocated wiring on inner wing to stop it rubbing against tyre RESULT: Having forgotten to disconnect battery, set fire to wiring loom Decided to tear down subframes from car I was breaking myself. RESULT: After 2.5 hours of struggling managed to remove one spacer, one camber arm and one steering arm. Oh, and broke the other steering arm, one of my shed walls, two screwdrivers, most of my knuckles ........ MORAL: After getting hold of an impact gun and doing it in about 10 minutes, Id support idiot lesson 1 Ive previously changed engines, gearboxes and allsorts but think Im going to leave it to the pros these days.
  12. Amusing to see the Liverpool fans spouting off about how he was "lucky" and stuff ......... yeah, 49 trophies in 26 years is always just down to luck Might well be the greatest manager ever, my cap is doffed.
  13. Catastrophic failure at 41K can only be a major engineering fault or car being run to absolute destruction i.e. no oil, no cooling and even then it would be obvious that something was going to break ........... I know, Ive done it Hole in block certainly sounds like rod failure but it would have been making a hell of a racket before it went, did you notice anything? As Ekona says, Ive seen driftcar engines go for 80K without any problems, theres something else here
  14. Would make sense, the slip and ABS lights tend to indicate an issue with the ABS unit - Ive unplugged mine and they are on all the time. Id imagine (dont know for sure) that if it was an individual sensor then youd get an individual sensor warning.
  15. Mental eh? You must lead a fascinating life Going back to the original post 0-60 times arent really a great measure as they can be seriously affected by any number of things, from a slightly slower gearchange to a tiny bit of wheelspin. Since most car manufacturers now deliberately map and gear their cars for good 0-60's its pretty irrelevant IMO anyway, particularly on stuff that goes on to do 150/160 mph. Quarters are a much better gauge, but you will still have the same issues - RWD>FWD>AWD getting off the line, very powerful cars will always struggle for traction in the lower gears and the same goes for cars with gearing for >150mph. The one saving grace is the you have three figures, the 60ft, 1/4 and terminal speeds and considering all three can actually give a decent picture of what the car was up to. 30-130 is the best gauge of speed as it takes all of the variables out of the mix Ive had a lot of quick cars and after a while the numbers are irrelevant, be it hp, 0-100 or lateral G, my driftcar dash had the only working dial you need and that was oil temp, the rest are just for bragging anyway
  16. Weve just done this big argument about S14s and 350Z's on SXOC, concensus of those that had actually driven both was the 200 is always faster in a straight line but the Zed has it licked on pretty much all other counts. Obviously there were some that simply wouldnt accept that (despite their chairman and one of their most respected traders, Mr Horsham telling them it) but hey, someone has to be wrong Rabbitstew - you can keep telling yourself that, but even to a hardened japcar fan a 350Z is a 350Z. As Dave said, most people cant tell the difference between a 350 and a 370, I doubt many will get excited about the HR's lower engine mounting point TBF As for the 997 and the Focus .......... seriously? A set of tyres for the Porsche is going to cost what 5 years servicing does on the Focus, the richer man/driving enthusiast/sweeter car will always be in the Porka.
  17. Ill say it again, my Rangey costs me 45p a mile in fuel alone. Unless you have an oil well in the back garden the petrol V8's arent practical.
  18. You can pick one up for just over £3K these days. The cheapest R8 in the country is £40K. Im loving the way that people are making the HR out to be a different car ........ to 99.99% of the country a 350Z is a 350Z, to most of that percentage its a slightly nicer than average Nissan.
  19. Nice, but the fuel on the V8 is ridiculous, mine uses twice what the Zed does (and literally 4 times what my 207 Diesel does). Having to put 20 bucks of fuel in to drive 40/50 miles quickly becomes a pain in the wallet, I wouldnt look at anything that isnt diesel or LPG converted already.
  20. Vmax is an engine killer though, particularly with FI cars, this is why MLR now do 30-130 as its not as likely to melt your lump
  21. Used to be massively into it but kinda lost interest a few years back, dont really know why. Still watch the odd game and the Superbowl, just seems to be missing something for me these days
  22. Its all a business, getting paid is. The reason Hamilton gets more than a Formula Ford driver is exactly the same as why Paul McCartney gets more than my mate Rob who plays pubs at weekends, or Van Persie gets more than a Kershaw League player. They draw more attention so are more attractive to advertisers/sponsors, sell more merchandise and basically turn over more cash for those with a financial interest in them. Would Hamilton still drive an F1 car if he get £500 a race? Of course he would, its in his blood - dont blame the player, blame the game.
  23. AROFLMAO and I'm Spurs fan as well Also killing myself at Crumb's correction, proper Adebayour pre contract signing was brilliant, I was calling him "Spurs legend" after about 2 matches. Adebayour post contract signing is as active as a corpse, reads the game like Stevie Wonder and makes an injured sloth look energetic. We agreed in the pub the other day that I would almost certainly make a better striker than him, as Id probably run for at least 400 yards per half. As soon as Defoe is match fit I hope not to see the lanky wastrel in a Spurs shirt again.
  24. TBH, this is all futile, the best driver is the one that brings most sponsorship with him
  25. Worst car I ever drove was a "Race prepped" Beetle - it looked the tits but my god was it bad - no suspension at all, steering heavier than the moon and you could probably run faster than it. The second worse car I ever drove was a 1.0 Metro Automatic, it just had no redeeming features whatsoever.
