Horses for courses, I prefer the 996 to the 997 as it was less nervous on the road, maybe its something youd get used to but as Ekona says, at that money you want to go 996 every day. They arent for everyone either, the front end "bouncing" round a corner when you are really pushing on or the weight shift arent my cup of tea either so I might suggest trying a Boxster or Cayman but find the right road and the 911 is a damn fine car. And having driven a 1M the other day, I can confirm you do get a feeling its from the same chaps as made the E30 M3, cracking car

Twitter abuse scandal - what do you think...?
docwra replied to sipar69's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Youre probably right, but find me one person who has ever been arrested for threatening to punch someone, I dont think you will be able to. Hell, I know people whose neighbours have repeatedly turned up on their doorstep with baseball bats and the police have said they "cant do anything until something happens" - I had written evidence of a guy that worked for me threatening that he was going to come and kill me a little while back and actually went to the police station and they did absolutely nothing then either, I doubt someone youve never met on the internet is going to get the full force of the law, are they? Because they are dicks? Not being funny but if this really concerns you then try to avoid hearing about whats going on in Syria, Kashmir, Tibet and any number of other places at the moment, some nomark making threats to someone they have never even met, never mind know where they live is not a major issue by any means IMO. Its not nice and it shouldnt happen, but click the "block" button and it stops, I dont honestly see what the big deal is TBH. -
So in the whole time you owned a Z33 you didnt have on person try to tell it was French? Really? I get it about once a month

So to be clear - you don't think there is anything wrong with threatening to rape and kill someone if it's done online? Would you feel the same if the threats were directed to your wife, daughter, mother etc? No, I thinks its abhorrent to make threats like that to anyone, particularly a girl/lady. However, Im more in favour of keeping freedom of speech than introducing laws that will have to be based on very shaky and probably dynamic definitions. Ive no doubt you are familiar with this case: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19009344, that pretty much sums it all up for me - guy makes obvious joke, gets arrested on terror charges, banned from airports for life, loses job, loses girlfriend and spends 2 years of his life fighting a ridiculous charge that eventually gets chucked out of court. -

Really dont see the big deal, one of the beauties of the internet is freedom of speech IMO, even if it can be hurtful. If youre going to introduce laws then where do you draw the line, Im already seeing a big "famous/non famous" divide developing which isnt right at all. For instance, theres a lot of online media about how much I dislike Mike Brewer, probably with some kind of "ideal world" violence involved, does that mean Im going to get a visit from the rozzers sometime? If he was more/less famous would that affect things? All a load of nonsense if you ask me, no-one ever gets arrested for writing poison pen letters or shouting threats at a football game ......... -
Wash your mouth out with snails and say "cheese eating surrender monkey" three times while spinning round before jumping over a brush!! Out of interest, what vehicle does Renault use the Zed engine in? Ahhh, the old "French engine" insult. The VQ series is a 100% Nissan designed unit BUT the VQ35DE was used in the Renault Vel Satis before the 350Z, hence us all having a "French engine" apparently. IIRC they used the VQ35 in the Espace as well and some smaller version in smaller cars too but its mostly used in Nissans and Infinitis

What a fantastic episode, hopefully that will shut the haters up for a while. Mark Webber is a legend, runs Jenson very close in the "sportsman Id want to go drinking with" stakes Anyone watch the thing on BBC2 after though, about the decline of the British car manufacturing industry and the development of Germany? Worst scheduling evarrr, Clarkson was dong his pieces on Twitter last night about it and quite right too - half the problem with this country is that we dont recognise our achievements and are far too quick to slag off the failures, TG redressed that last night and then had the good work immediately undone by some smug ****er who clearly knew **** all about cars.

Looks? Its a coilover, you cant see them ........ My personal experience is that you WILL notice the difference between D2's and HSD's, the former have harsher damping and can be quite choppy down a bumpy road, where the HSD's are much more compliant. Cant speak for BC's, KW's or Ohlins but I also know the differences become a lot smaller as you spend more money What's your take on true coilover vs OEM setup coilover in the rear? TBH Ive not drive a Zed with true coilovers but from looking into what owners have said I dont think its a massive issue, I believe the Ohlins are two piece units as well and they tend to know what they are up to The biggest difference in my experience between cheap and expensive suspension is the damping, the speed at which it reacts, the ferocity that it reacts at and the control it exerts over the wheel. Cheap stuff is crashy, bumpy and leaves you with wheels all over the place on a bumpy road, the good stuff feels like its not even working that hard.

Sniffer dogs? Glad I didnt go then .......

MX5, Elise/Exige, Boxster, Cayman, Jag F type (Im guessing anyway), you could probably shoehorn the Caterfields into that category as well. Agree the Zed isnt one though, its too heavy for a start and probably a bit too soft with it

I hate to say it as I know we all adore our cars, but getting jealous over a car you can pick up for £4K suggests that your "friends" are actually "dickheads" Jealousy for me starts at about £60K, triple garage or catalogue model and upwards

Aye, JohnJ has been through plenty but thats with the welder, the standard diff locks up pretty hard anyway, stick a GT Pro on it and the thing would probably drift itself I really miss having 18's on mine, was at Anglesey not that long ago and every time I "accidentally" got sideways all I could think about was the £450 of rear tyres I was melting So I did waht any man would do, I nicked the missuses MR2 and drifted that instead

Sweeet. I test drove an M135i the other day, still loving that engine ......... then I drove a 1M the next day and started saving immediately afterwards -
You obviously dont live near pikeys. Once you start something it doesnt stop, it just escalates, usually best just to move on and forget about it.
-
Maybe because their roads actually move rather than being a continuous 20mph maelstrom? If you have driven on the continent you'll know what Im talking about, I feel infinitely safer myself anyway. Ive also just had a quick google and found that 12% of deaths occur on German motorways compared with 6% here, when you consider that a lot of Autobahn use in Germany is transit to other countries thats not terrible by any means. Our urban road death rate is considerably higher than theirs though, and when you consider that the US is higher than both despite 55 mph limits, maybe its not just down to the speed.
-
Our motorways are actually in pretty good nick compared to the rest of Europe, its the lane discipline thats the bigggest difference - they use the outside lane for overtaking and then back on the inside, even if youre doing 140mph. TBH its the same all over Europe, we seem to be the only place where its acceptable to sit in the outside lane at 70 mph overtaking precisely **** all.
-
Its because they are living in it, they cant be evicted without a court order. If it was any other property then it would almost certainly have been returned. Daily Mail, being sensationalist? Whatever next??
-
German roads are 10000% better than ours, mainly due to the fact their standard of driving is 10000% better. And trust me, even at speeds over 175mph you arent accidentally going to hit someone on the inside lane if there are two wide open ones outside it

I have it on pretty good authority that John Law once clocked a guy in a Veyron doing in excess of 200mph somewhere in the South of the UK, they had him on camera for a number of miles and basically bang to rights. He was obviously pretty well off so went to Nick Freeman to see what he could do about the charges he was facing - the police, rather than do him for excess speed were pursuing a dangerous driving offence. The story I was told was that Freeman successfully proved that 200mph in a Veyron on an empty motorway was not "dangerous" and the charge was thrown out, and due to the fact you cant downgrade a charge, the guy driving walked. I have absolutely nothing to back this up and obviously cant tell you who told me, but its a cracker if its true

They were parachutes. You know youre cars quick when you need a parachute! Scottie from the SXOC lined up next to a Skyline in his 200SX, the Skyline had a parachute in the back, Scottie had a childseat in the back ...........
-
Meh. If the motorway was empty (which it probably was at 0500) then I dont see its a big deal .......... yep, watched video and didnt see another car. Not saying he shouldnt get banned but I saw more "dangerous" driving on my way to work this morning

Theyve done a cracking job of advertising it then, I drive past that field every day and know nothing about the festival, the radio station running it or any of the bands playing Ive also never heard of it in the 25 off years Ive lived here either. Have a good one though
