  1. Love it. i sent my bro txt to tell him about it today, and i said 'You can do the welding, the engine work, fix the rust, paint it, and do the suspension. I'll give it a good detail.' I'm aiming to be more of a Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage instead of Mike Brewer.
  2. Looks like it, yes. I'll see if i can find the full episode.
  3. Hi all, So today i won an ebay auction for one of my dream cars - a Mercedes G-Wagen (or Wagon, i dont know which is right yet!) I've been after one of these for years, and I've always said that I would get one as my first restoration project. Usually the rotters go for between £5-7k, but i've managed to pick this one up for £3700, with 8 months MOT and 4 months Tax! It looks reasonably straight... it's a 2.4 Litre Petrol, giving 156BHP, and has 71k on the clock. There is some rust as you can see from the pictures, and the interior needs a retrim/refresh, but as restorations go i think this should be reasonably straight forward hopefully! My plan is to spend £3-4k on the restoration, after which i'm hoping to keep it for a while before selling. A properly restored model will sell for anywhere between £10-20k depending on the quality of the job, so I'm hoping at the very least to make a couple of grand on it by the time i'm done. I've not seen it in person yet as it's 180 miles away down in Bristol, but i'm expecting a rust bucket anyway so as long as it starts and drives, im having it. The seller reckons it'll get me home without any problems so it should be alright! So, my brother's called in sick from work to give me a lift down to get it tomorrow, and then i;m driving it back and then we'll be having a few beers! Pics are below. Early plans are to fix the rust and any mechanical issues, to make sure i've got a solid base. Following this it'll be having a full respray in gun metal grey, with new wheels, custom exhaust, and i'll consider changing the ride height, and an interior retrim obviously. I'm also going to see how well this engine runs, as at the back of my mind i'd like to drop in a big power mercedes lump out of an S Class or something (55). Overall i'm looking to have a finished article that looks like this:
  4. i knew about the Jag but if thats true about the AMG thats unreal.
  5. Apologies if this is a repost, i had a look but couldnt see anything. Not entirely sure what the crack was, but as i'm fairly local my facebook has been full of pictures and videos from it today. A few clever folk managed to stuff their nice cars on a public road in front of hundreds of people, which is all on film. C63 AMG Crash at 1.20 Jaguar XFRS crash (this was close the hitting the guy filming!) https://www.facebook...53218217394966"
  6. Cool, post some pics. Maxima's always remind me of the Dre track 'Ackrite', '...chase them girls in that black Maxima The passenger, almost fractured her, neckbone, lookin' back at us.'
  7. Weight on them is the same, but the IS is uderpowered compared to the BMW. To be honest i've had 4 e36 3-Series in the past, and 7 3-series overall, and i fancy something different.
  8. Smooth + wiper delete. Looks badass as it is now.
  9. Just some ideas for you... http://www.pistonhea...-2-1982/2800606 http://www.pistonhea...and-new/2804611 http://www.pistonhea...-import/2829858 None of the above are cars I have experience with, they are just something different that was within your budget. Personally I'd probably go with the BMW E36 series as you already mentioned. I've seen some 328's and a 330ci fall into that price range on Autotrader which is probably where'd I'd look if I was you. Good luck with the search. @Stu ~ thought it was the same hill. Look forward to the other vid. Cheers matey. I think i've now decided on a Lexus IS200. I always thought they were FWD but apparently not! The Sport version comes with an LSD as standard, (the SE version doesnt). Both models are well within budget, but the downside is they're rather slow - the stock motor only puts out 151bhp. Apparently it's about 4k for a superccharger... or if I could find an Altezza, these put out 210bhp, but this is unlikely within budget. The other option (which may be longer term) is an engine swap for a 2JZ-GE, which are stock in the IS300 (but auto only in the UK).
  10. I'm looking for a track car at the moment. Must be RWD, as im probably going to be drifting it at Oulton most of the time, but needs to be solid enough to stand a regular track days too. Budget is approx £1500, and it needs to have an MOT as i dont have a trailer. Any suggestions anyone? My current thinking is: Porsche 944 BMW Z3 BMW E36 (I cant afford an E30) ...what else am i forgetting (Mx5 is too small for me - i dont fit...)
  11. Congrats commander, good for you. So i had another sit down with my boss today after he'd had a chance to discuss my requests with the MD. It's still in progress waiting to be confirmed and the role fully fleshed out, but they have agreed to change my role, giving me more of what i want. Promotion to 'Team Leader' (this is the only bad point - i wanted a management role, but there just isnt a position, so this is the best i can get until someone leaves). 4 direct reports Freedom to make strategic decisions and shape my teams working practices Input into the future direction of our product Ownership of internal projects and initiatives which are due to be rolled out 10% payrise Commitment to my future (career path mapped out post Team Leader role, and enrollment on all relevant Management/Commercial training courses available through the company). Overall i'm reasonably happy. The new responsibilities and payrise are great, but the job title is a (not unexpected) let down. I think this is probably enough to keep me happy for the next 6-12 months, but i dont see it as a long term solution. On a side note - I had a call from a former colleague tonight who works for one of our main competitors - and he was ringing to offer me a job!! Sadly it was for the same role i'm doing now, but i told him if he'd called me 24 hours earlier it might have been a different conversation, but i'd have to say no. I didnt ask about the salary, but it would have had to have been a massive step up for me to stab my current employers in the back (and ruin what would be an excellent reference). Ho hum.
  12. Doesnt work in this county. Last year my mate tried it at a McDonalds drive through - he chose to pay for the meal for the car behind him, and then pulled into the car park to eat his food and watch the outcome, and the car he bought the food for drove over to him trying to kick off, as they took it as an insult!
  13. I hope that your interview went well. I guess you can go in there all nonchalantly with your lottery win in your pocket, and make them think you'd be doing them a favour by taking the job!
  14. Thanks for your responses everyone. It's all much appreciated and useful advice. Not at all - I cant describe the stress levels that we are forced to put up with in our job. (although i guess everyone says that). Our projects are all pretty high profile and in the public eye if anything goes wrong, and a lot of it rests on my shoulders. My boss' job is easy in comparison! I would hope that leaving my current employers and getting a more senior job elsewhere might result in less stress due to an easier working environment! So today ended up being a very big day! I took a call from my colleague who does the same job as me, and he told me he's handed his notice in! He's decided to go traveling for 12 months with his wife! My boss had scheduled a meeting for him and I in the afternoon, and it turned out it was to begin planning how to replace my colleague, and to be asked to become the Team Leader and to head up a couple of new initiatives. I then dropped the bombshell that i've also been considering my position and that i have applied for another job! The company definitely cant afford to lose both me and my colleague, which has put me in a strong position. So I outlined what I have been looking for in a new job i.e. a managerial role, having direct reports, and to take a step back from implementations to operate on a strategic level, and my boss was open to all of it. He said they would be prepared to restructure our department to accommodate my requirements! So my boss is taking it to the MD to review, and we will catchup again on Thursday to see if we can firm up the plan! My main concern at this stage is that with me moving up, i would be taking a lot of my boss' current responsibilities on board - and i dont know whether there is enough to occupy him at a higher level. I guess it's potentially the perfect outcome really (apart from my colleague leaving). It looks like i may get the things i was prepared to leave my job for without going anywhere, and it'll give me the chance to cut my teeth in a more senior role in an environment that i'm comfortable in. Heh heh, that would be ideal!
  15. Also, how the hell do i give notice at my current job?? My colleagues are like my family and I dont want to be leaving anyone in a bad situation, or let my bosses down etc.

  17. Hi guys, I'm after some input/advice from anyone who may have been in a similar position to me in their careers (or from anyone else who wants to chime in!) I'm 30 years old and have worked for the same software company for 8 years since graduating from University. For the first 4 years i was a programmer, with the last 4 years as a Business Consultant / Project Manager. I'm very proud of the job I do currently - it's always exciting and is pretty high profile, as I work with lots of different sports clubs/institutions across the UK. This year I was in charge of a very large software project at Silverstone for example, and i've just finished another medium sized project with Nottingham Forest FC. Sadly, i feel like i have out grown my role over the last 6 months and things are starting to feel repetitive. We had a company update this week and I left it feeling very demoralized. There doesnt appear to be anything different on the horizon, and i cant stomach another year of the same challenges day in, day out. So, I've begun looking for a new job elsewhere, but i would like to take a step up to a 'proper' management role. Something like an Operations Manager or Practice Manager. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this, whilst not having any real management experience (as in, no permanent direct reports previously). Secondly, how far should/could you reach with regards to salary? I'm currently earning around £47.5k, however I dont feel like i want to risk my career for anything less than £55k, but actually I would like to try my hand at jobs offering even more than this (£60k+). Does anyone here have experience of applying for and getting jobs in this space? If so, what are those jobs like in terms of responsibility/stress, and do you regret making the leap? I'm nervous about going to an interview and being out of my depth, having only worked for one company before. Lastly... if anyone here knows of any jobs available which sound similar to the above, give me a shout! (North West or Home based).

  22. Its tortuously slow isnt it? I wonder how much of a part aerodynamics will play at these speeds. Seems like its go great backing though, i didnt realise such big names were on board.
