  1. The lines themselves are easy to make and fit. It's often the extra effort of having to drop the fuel tank or diff if your lines go underneath these items. I had 1 front to back line done on an E46 beemer the other year which cost me £280, and then last year on the Range Rover Sport i had the same job at the same garage and it only cost me £80. Your main costs are coming from a garage charging £65+vat an hour though. Sod that for a game of soldiers.
  2. A few bits and bobs arrived today. When unwrapped looks like. 4x spacers, which i will be having the inner faced milled to the correct bore size, body filler and spatulas, and a feeler guage. Also bought this week - a Poly grinding disk for rust/paint removal, a new random orbital sander, and a cheapo outdoor car cover from Aldi, to cover the car whilst working on any part-finished jobs.
  3. Oh yeh, also, went to the docs today and they still dont think it's a hernia. They think just torn muscle. They couldnt explain the lump on my leg though
  4. So i didnt win the auction for this one. I bid £5k, but it went for just under £7k. I was hoping it would make over 8 as a good indicator for mine, but sadly not.
  5. Looks like the guy has deleted the topic seeing as you've called him out on it.
  6. Everyone that sees mine tells my how ugly and stupid it is, but that it is seriously cool. That article pretty much sums it up, that it doesnt make sense, but you still want one.
  7. Sorry mate only just seen this. Both of my e46's had a fault with the airbag light coming on. Apparently there's no DIY fix and you're looking at over a grand to sort it (and its an MOT failure). Also, both of mine had multiple suspension issues... i replaced about 6 bushes across both cars, over 3-4 garage visits. My first one was only a 60k miler, but the second was 130k ish.
  8. Man, i just cant help myself... i've bought ANOTHER G-Wagen! At least this one was only 0.99p
  9. Well not having the best of weekends really My mate came round to give me a lift with the wheels seeing as i'm crippled, and they dont fit. The centre bore on the G is larger than the centre bore on the wheels, so they wont go on. New plan is to see if i can find (or have made) some spacers which will reduce that cenre bore size. Any tips on where to get this done anyone? That said, we did at least get the 1 wheel bolted on which looked great, before taking it off again (sorry no pics). So i cracked on with the tear down instead. The headlining, seatbelts, carpets, and all interior trim with the exception of the front cab is now out of the car (and labeled up). Also removed some of the exterior side strips although the front wing pieces wont budge. Managed to snap 2 drill bits trying to drill out the screws. Side trim removed. Delighted to see there was no rust under these, as have seen quite a few online that have rusted through here. This is the only bad spot of rust on the car - lower rear corner. And lastly a gratuitous shot of my sockets. Wont be to many people's taste's (and no, they dont make me a tart ), but i like them.
  10. So anyway back on topic, i'm bidding on something rather interesting on eBay... another G-Wagen! It's a 1983 LWB, but has been restored pretty much to the standard i'm aiming for so this is a real acid test. Depending on how much this goes for may dictate how much im willing to put into my resto. It's got the front end conversion, LED rear lights, new wheels, black respray, and a few other odds and sods, but somehow it doesnt look right. It needs some side steps and the wheel/arch gap needs closing (bigger tyres perhaps). Anyway, i've put a speculative £5k bid on it, but also asked the seller if he has any advice for me on the build, and he's given me his number so we can have a chat! Im not expecting to win it for that, but if i do i'll probably just use this one for my base instead of my current one.
  11. My opinion... I would keep it to yourself that you've got everything that you want. Perhaps not all of your family and friends are as lucky as you and will resent you for treating their present to you so nonchalantly. If you genuinely want to do something good and give it to charity, just ask for birthday money and give it yourself behind closed doors. A few years ago I was in a reasonably similar position, and i remember telling my Gran that there was nothing I wanted, and that nobody should buy me anything. She told me that even though it's my birthday it's not all about me - people enjoy giving gifts just as much as receiving them, and by telling people not to bother, you're taking that joy of giving to you away from them.
  12. Anyone noticed the improvements in the latest update? Amongst other things, finally we now have DLNA server support, which i've been waiting for since day one! Now that i can finally watch my movies through it, i decided to setup the rest of the features. When i first got it last December there was no support for Virgin Media TV, but there is nowadays so i've hooked up my cable box to go through the XBONE, and it now autoplays tv when i say 'Xbox On.' I can do all the other funky stuff too such as telling it to watch Sky One etc. Impressively, i can choose to watch any of my movies from my DLNA server, navigating between folders and picking which film, all by talking to it! Pretty cool.
  13. Really? I didnt think henia's were an urgent thing? It's only hurting like 5/10 pain. Might give that NHS number a call tomorrow and see what they say.
  14. Cheers mate. I think i'm just gonna buy an impact wrench for it. An air compressor is on my shopping list anyway so will get one asap instead of waiting. Pretty gutted though, i was really looking forward to getting stuck in the weekend but now im lay on the sofa feeling sorry for myself.
  15. Craaaaaap. Well today i think busted a gut, literally. I've had a slight pain in my lower abdomen for the last 3 weeks. I went to the docs a week ago and they said it's probably just a muscle strain, but today whilst trying to undo one of the wheel nuts on the G the pain got a lot worse. I've now got a small soft lump in the top front of my thigh, and a fair amount of pain/discomfort.... i think i've given myself a hernia. After a bit of googling, it appears to be a rare type called a Femoral Hernia, in the top of my thigh in the femoral channel, instead of the usual groin area. Google says immediate treatment and surgery is required. Gonna try to get into the docs again on Monday and see what they say, but that might be me laid up for a bit. Certainly wont be fitting the wheels the weekend.
  16. When i was working at Silverstone this year, i was based in The Wing which overlooked the Stowe circuit in the centre of the track. I used to spend my days literally on the phone watching people on track out of the window, and a few days a week they'd have the single seaters on there. I tell you now, it must be easy to spin them as i watched at least 10 or 12 people go off over the course of 2-3 months whilst i was yapping on the phone If it's wet you've had it!! (Although to be honest, i think they would be even more fun in the wet!).
