Ah the beach service too... chilling out on your lounger and they bring you cocktails so you dont even have to move. its amazing! We didnt bother with Coco Bongo's... like you say its expensive and is a bit of a tourist trap to be honest. We did 1 trip to Xel-Ha - an adventure place to do Scuba Diving, ATV's, Jet Ski's and Para-Sailing which cost about £250 for the day. Was well worth it. The only other thing we did is go to the local town - Playa Del Carmen which has got some great shops/restaurants. We probably spent less than £500 in the two weeks we were there.

Ah sorry, the video was set to private and i hadnt realised. I've made it public now so you should be able to see it soon. Dress code, i just wore chinos and a polo shirt on most nights, and some smart-ish shoes (Sketchers). Its basically to stop people coming in off the beach and eating in the restaurant without going back to your room and showering first i guess. As for how strict they are, i cant say i remember anyone wearing shorts in the evenings so didnt really encounter anything. Sounds like you've made the right choice on the room. Regarding the tips, yes we left about $2 per day in the room i think.... One day we got left a full 1L bottle of Jose Cuervo Tequila in the room! Oh and the room service... any time night or day you can order something up and they'll bring it to your room, for free. Awesome!

i was actually going to say, bugs are at a minimum at the resort as they spray pesticide at about 4am every morning on everything, so there were hardly any bugs!

Oh, and the jag in the ad was owned by this nonce from Made in Chelsea. He didnt strike me as being in to cars.

I wouldnt take a £3k XK8 if you gave it to me for nothing. Going to be a complete money pit, i'm sure. I remember reading your build thread Rich and thinking Christ thats a lot of work!!

Heres the video of our honeymoon. Annoyingly when i uploaded it to youtube the quality was lost, but gives a good indication of what to expect. Oh, and i had a Selfie Stick before they were fashionable.
-
Yeah, i've been! We had our Honeymoon there in 2013. I'm not sure of the Sensimar bit of it, as it was called El Dorado Seaside Suites by Karisma when we went. Literally the best 2 weeks of both of our lives. I 100% recommend you pay extra for one of the mid-range beach front rooms. I think it was about £300 extra for the 2 weeks, but totally worth it. They're not particularly 'on the beach', but they're much bigger and more luxurious. The standard rooms are just average hotel rooms, and the most expensive 'swim up' rooms didnt seem to be worth it - they were just a ground floor standard room with an ordinary looking pool on the back. The food was out of this world... 6x restaurants all of which were epic. Our favourite thing was the wildlife - loads of massive iguanas everywhere, a few wierd but quite large mammals we've never seen before, great fish etc. Every day they do a huge BBQ on the beach which is awesome too, or you can go and grab a burger or pizza whenever you want. We went back to Mexico the following year to an 'average' place at about 1/3rd the price. It was no where near as good.

I've not seen any Varis lips knocking around for years! They were the dogs danglies at one point, in the late naughties!
-
Ha ha. Its at least 18 months till i've got the cash for one, so i can afford to analyse at this stage! Im the type of person that absolutely MUST get a good deal. I try not to pay RRP for anything and research incessantly until i can get a deal...

Top result on google search is a Facebook post stating: 'Becareful guys theres Cosworth on Ebay F642 TEF its up for 5500 in Edinburgh also in London 16k ad has been cloaned'
-
Yeah you're right too. But then simply from my perspective, a I wasnt buying one as an investment, i just wanted to avoid too much depreciation. In a 3 year window one of these is gonna lose £3-4k, max. Over the same 3 years a brand new Ford Mondeo which is a 'safe bet' would lose 4x or 5x that amount.
-
I disagree. The new versions are minimum £80k more expensive, its a different market and therefore the prices should remain unaffected for a very long time yet. Some cars have a floor limit in terms of value, and i've been following the prices of all cars listed in this thread over a number of years, and none of them have dropped below their current values.

Take the wheel off and investigate the spacer fitment!!
-
Pretty much the same logic i've followed myself there... apart from the fanny magnet as i dont need that ! (i'm married, not god's gift ) The 4C is on the radar, but then again it's too new and will depreciate.
-
Good point. I'll look in to other potential big ticket items which could go wrong, but you'r right finding one with these done could be the answer. I'd only keep it for 2-3 years anyway, and do < 5k miles per year. At which point assuming i've not lost too much in depreciation i should be able to trade up.
-
The F Type has only been out 18 months though, they've got loads more depreciation to suffer.
-
Love the F-Type but it doesnt fit the bill. It's still got an awful lot of depreciating to do yet, and i dont particularly want to lose money on one. I always try to buy cars that have done all of their depreciating so they cost me as little as possible. I broke even on my second zed and 911, which is the plan again.
-
Hmm, good advice and feedback everybody. Being the tight arse that i am, its quite off putting to hear that it's a really bad example for running costs. Im not worried about depreciation as i've been following the values quite closely and they're going up if anything, but if general maintenance is such a rip of, that's a major turn off. But then, if you want to drive these types of cars, there's got to be some kind of sacrifice, right? Food for thought.

Hey folks, Has anyone got any experience or opinions on the Audi R8? The early 4.2 V8 coupe. Annoyingly they seem to be going up in value at a steady pace. Im sure they used to be about £35k a couple of years ago, but you're lucky if you can find one for £40k now. I'm probably 18 months from having the money for one yet anyway, but i cant stop looking at them online. I want a supercar looking car if that makes sense. The only other cars i can think of in that bracket for similar or preferably less money are an Aston Vantage or Maserati Gran Turismo. Don't fancy a Porsche at all, or a GTR, and haven't got the dollar for a Ferrari. If i keep it for 2-3 years i dont expect any depreciation the way things are going, so it'll be cheap or free motoring during that time. Just need to save the money up front for it which is the hard bit!!!

You need to get hold of the fastener with some pliers, large needlenose is ideal, and grip it whilst using the socket.

My Bro's still got his Burner in his garage. He had it in the 80's, i had it in the 90's. I remember riding it one time and this bloke said to me, 'what you doing with that bike, kid. That's my mate's bike, not yours!' It turned out to be my brother's best mate as a child and he remembered it...! Another time my friend and i got chased by 'The BMX Bandits', a local gang of about 8 teenagers who knicked BMX's.... it was a hairy half hour but we just about managed to escape. Well scary as a 10 year old!
-
Now if only these kind of deals were available on all used cars.... i'd go out and by an Audi R8 tomorrow if i could get one for sub £500 a month with a hefty balloon payment.
-
something very wrong with your maths there Yeah, I make that £53,756 total. Clearly a typo... he meant 36x£381
