This is all interesting talk... your tyres are a big decision! can people post up their mileages/life times of respective tyres, as the Z is my daily driver and they'll see a lot of miles! I dont want to only get 10k out of a set!!
-
Really, as cheap as that? I was paying £150 a corner on my bmw for 17's (Vredestein Ultrac's) so was expecting a similar price. Whats the crack with getting things of people on here...? i see it on so many threads but i dont know who these people are or what they do!!

Hey folks I have a tiptronic JDM, and with this spectacularly bad weather we've had this last few weeks, im having trouble keeping her on the road. Im not talking about when cornering - obviously im driving like a granny in this wet, but when on the straights (dual carriageway mostly) when i put my foot down and it goes down a couple of gears (i.e. 5th to 3rd), i almost end up binning it in the barrier cos i loose all traction and she tries to go sideways on me...! Its happened about 5 times this month. Its scary. Apart from not putting my foot down in the wet anymore (boooooo!), what else is there? Do i need new tyres? I've got Kumho's on there now on the standard 17" Jap wheels... I dont want to blow £600 on tyres when i might be able to get some used wheels/tyres for a bit more you know? I've not seen anything on eBay under £1500 yet, and im not paying that for a set - any other suggestions?
-
I take mine down to about 80km dte on my jdm, and then always have to put £60-£65 in of regular fuel, so 62litres? And i though jdm's hav a smaller tank?
-
Quality, i'll take a look at the weekend. Fingers crossed its that!

There might be away around waiting the 3 months mate... When i bought my beemer in 2006, i'd just started my job about 6 weeks earlier. However, i took the loan option where you dont start repaying for another 2 months, which took me past the 3 month probationary period...! The bank said this was fine - it was through hsbc @ 9% or something. It ended up costing me about £3 a month extra for the privelage but big deal, i got the loan that day! Whether this was cos i only borrowed £6k i dont know, but its worth phoning up and giving them a try.

I've already got clicking rear axles - low speed (i.e. when pulling away or parking), and it just clicks/creaks at the rear. This is LOUD and jingly. Thanks for your best guesses everyone... i'll have to get under it and have a look...!
-
I honestly cant say whether its front or rear... it sounds like rear, but for it to occur as soon as i steer right, i would have thought that'd mean its the front wheel... And i dont think its pads, the're all at a fine level (the outer ones i can see). Is there any way to check for a stone stuck in there without taking the caliper apart?
-
ok, i've had a bit more of a listen, and the sound's connected to the rotation of the wheel, i.e. when i slow down it slows down. Some of my original description was a bit wrong though - the noise is intermittent, and seems to be nearly always kicked off when i steer to the right. It happens instantly, but nothing at all if i go left. It is a high pitched noise, and there is no vibration at all, and braking isnt affected at all. Had a bearing gone do you think? im not sure what noise they make... Cheers. Chris. And No, i didnt kidnap Santa, and tie him up in my boot.

Hey guys... New problem started for me yesterday... there's a really loud jingling noise coming from underneath the car. Seriously sounds like jingle bells! No joke...! It seems to occur when im going over 25mph, and i turn sharply, either for a junction or a tight bend (but not on roundabouts strangely... maybe they're not sharp enough?). The noise lasts for about 10 seconds before it fades away. Anyway... im not sure if its from the front or back yet, and obviously it sounds like its on the drivers side - but you can never tell yourself where the damn noises are coming from can you? Any suggestions anyone? I already have clicking rear axles - which isnt that bad a problem, but this is distinctley different!

Saw you one morning this week... was it Tuesday?

The flux for me was £3300!! I was planning on getting a Z in June - found the car, had my bmw for sale and everything, but then got a bunch of quotes an nobody would do anything less than £3300. i probably called about 10 different companies, and i got down to £2700 which was almost bareable, but then i got recommended to go to Keith Michaels brokers, and they said they could do it for £2300, or if i pay in one go, they'd knock 10% off, so £2070. Then however, after i'd paid and when i got my documents through the price was £2550! i called them up and they didnt give me a propper answer... they just said 'oh, we have to add 10% when you pay by DD... so i asked where the hell they got the £2300 figure from and he couldnt answer me straight.... but its only for a year and then i can go back to direct line!
-
This is depressing. i am northern (near manchester) and i still pay that! i dont live in a bad area, but i do park on the street. However i've only been driving just over 3 years, and had a small prang in my first year. But i've got 2yrs no claims now... But yeh, £2550 is very depressing for me. And that was the cheapest i could find - seriously, i called loads of places!
-
Ok, should the question be, whose the youngest owner of a Z that DOESNT live with their parents...? If i still lived at home i'd be driving a Range Rover Sport me thinks! Was 24 in October, and bought mine 2 weeks later. £2550 insurance, that comes down to £900 next year when im 25!! £65-80 a week on juice - depending on how much fun im having.
-
Hi mate... i'd only had mine just over a week then! I like them in black - beats my silver! Are you from Macc or were you just passing through? I dont think i've seen any others around here.. Chris.
-
Hey... Coming home from work tonight down the silk road in Macclesfield, i was cruising at about 60 and a black z comes slowly past me and pulls in, so i accellerated next to him and we exchanged smiles before i had to get off at the roundabout... ...anyone? Chris.
-
yeh this week though i've been sleeping with the window open and wearing shorts (instead of just boxers) to bed, and having my shoes right by the bed, just waiting for the slightest noise outside. I got up twice over the weekend in the middle of the night, jumping up when i heard people going past! It stresses me out. I need a garage!
-
ok just to update... i managed 323 miles... driving the first 200 of those as slow as i possibly could, and then ripping it for the last two days!! However, i still had a fair amount left in the tank (dte said 109km remaining), so i probably could have got another 30 miles or so out of it... but the fuel gage had only 1/8th left in, and when i filled up, i put 56 litres in... not sure of my tank size (jdm). Anyway, i've filled up with super unleaded today, so i'll post back and see if that makes a difference!
-
i meant they probably greased it up so a prospective buyer wouldnt hear it until a few weeks later... and the 3 month warranty only covers engine and gearbox i think... :-( Plus its a 150 mile round trip to the place i bought it from! Ahh well...
-
hi all... well it didnt take long for something to go wrong, i got this car less than 2 weeks ago and the clicking rear axles has just started yesterday and today... with today being significantly worse. At first i didnt think it was clicking - it sounds more like a loud creaking noise, but then with the window down it was definitely a clicking. It appears to be worse on the left rear than the right... Anyway, i cant afford to do anything about it for a good 8 months or so.... im all spent up after buying it, and now having to pay £2500 a year to insure it. Any ideas what it'll cost at a local mechanic?? I will NEVER EVER take my car to a main dealership, regardless of the problem. I've had 2 family members and a work colleague in the last 3 months take their cars to dealers, and then they get a call saying 'we've just found this is wrong' or 'this broke while servicing', and they've all had over £1400 bills at the end of it. Theiving scum. (this was Vauxhall, Ford, and Toyota). From reading other posts i take it this doesnt cause any longterm damage (that we know about), at lease i hope not cos im gonna have it for a while!!!! Just a bit pi**ed though you know... like the garage i bought it from greased it up to mask it, for it to suddenly become so bad? Or maybe i've got used to the car now, and am driving a little slower, so i can actually hear other things besides the roar of the engine?! i dont know.
-
Mate, you sound just like me 10 days ago... i posted on here with 4 hours to go! You know what i did the night i picked i up? i slept like a baby! i had a week of sleepless nights just thinking about it constantly, but as soon as i got it, i could finally relax and switch my brain off! And yeh... i spent £160 on fuel in the first 4 days.
-
Yeh, im being soooo gentle with it... i dont at any point hear the roar from the engine... its just all silent!
-
Yeh mines the same as yours nixy, speed in in mph, but the rest of the pod is in km's. Do JDM's have a petrol light for when you're running out? As i've gone halfway between the last line and empty, and no lights come on... My bmw always lit up when i had '64' miles left....!
-
Hey folks... I bought my first 350z last wednesday and managed to spend £140 on petrol by Monday, so this week im trying to see what the maximum distance i can get out of my tank is! I do just over 60 miles a day to work and back, on a good mix of roads (30% town, 20% motorway, 50% country lanes). I put £59 in it on Monday night, and the dte read 600kms. Now, i've been driving everywhere at about 2k revs... only going above 2 or 3 times.... (i've got a tiptronic so its quite easy). Im sticking to 60-65 on the motorway, and so far, i've driven 94 miles, and my petrol guage has gone down by just over 1/6th!! The dte now reads 613kms... HA! Now, obviously this is painful for me to do.... its like im teasing myself, as im normally a complete rally driver, but it'll make me feel better when i can tell people what mpg i can get!! Anyway, i'll keep you posted on what i can get, and i hope you all feel sorry for me driving so slow!

I'd love to come to the meet on sunday - but im working both days this weekend to get me some money back! Im skint now! And i cant even enjoy the drive to work cos im working from home!! I'll be there at the next one though for sure... On another note... im aching all over... is the zed notoriously uncomfortable of what, cos im in pain!!!
