  1. I've got the tip and i have to say i love it. I'd never driven an auto before but as this is my daily driver and i sit in a lot of traffic, i decided to get one. It takes about 2 weeks to get used to - when i was really going for it i used to keep pressing the imaginary clutch, but also hitting the gear lever trying to change gear As for responsiveness - under normal driving its excellent, but if im overtaking someone, i'll use the manual override and drop down to third, to power past the car infront. If you dont do this - it takes about 1 second from you putting your foot down until you get the power - which is a bit scary when you pull out and then have to wait for the power! However, can anyone answer me this - i want to go on track later this year - will this be okay with the auto??
  2. What did you wire them into buddy? Is there a footwell light already in your car? If not, how did you find the feed for the map lights and get it down to the footwell?

    18's or 19's?

Damn it... you're just making it worse!! I've seen these already and i'd have them tomorrow, but i've gotta wait till the end of July for my annual bonus! a matter of timing indeed!

    18's or 19's?

Hi guys, Im sure this must have been asked before but i couldn't find anything on it... Im looking to get some wheels in July, but have only got a small budget of £1k max. I know that this isn't gonna get me anything particularly brilliant, but as long as they look good i'll be happy. I'll be running some winter wheels anyway so they should last even if they're not the best! Anyway - i want them to look right on the car, so can i get away with 18's, without lowering, or do i really need 19's? If i do go for 18's, whats the smallest tyre aspect ratio i could get away with... could i have 40/18's or would i need 45's etc....? I dont want to blow my load on some 18's and then end up needing to spend another £500 to lower it to stop people laughing at it....!!!!
  6. I'd definitely be up for that! I'd suggest the A537 'Cat & Fiddle' road as a great drive out - but i'd imagine a lot of people have done it already? I saw about 20 zeds 3 years or so ago up there, when i was in my little mk3 golf! There is also 'bangers'/StockCar racetrack up in Buxton, which you can go and watch on various weekends in the summer - that would be a meet with a difference - drive up there and watch that for a couple of hours?? Just throwing ideas out here... Chris.
  7. So whens the next meet???? Im just recovering from back surgery at the moment so cant drive for 3 more weeks - cos i'd have definitely been there otherwise!
  8. Sorry to hijack but H5, how part worn are the RE040's, and what size are they? Im after 1x rear RE040R in 17" (235/50/17) in as new condition as possible - i've got 3 of these almost brand new (which i paid £115 incl wheels - delivered), i just need a 4th but dont want to pay much for it!!

Im with you - bmw's offer something different. I've said in another thread before that i thought my 328Ci had more go in 5th than my Z does. If one got the jump on you you'd struggle to catch it. However, i went up against a new shape 325 saloon last week through a few sets of traffic lights and it had nothing on the z at all - so the guy gave me a nice '5 knuckle shuffle sign'.
  10. As i've said before, i would never go to a main dealer for anything. I had new pads fitted on the rear of my z 2 months ago, and the garage said its the easiest car they've ever changed the pads on as the handbrake assembly is separate from the rear hub, so they only charged me £20 for labour, and the pads were only £40 (non-brembo brakes). I'd recommend getting the parts from Phil @ ESR as everyone has said, as these'll be cheaper than what Nissan would charge you. Then just get them fitted at any garage - i had mine done at National Tyres in Macc. Great service. Anyone can change discs and pads.
  11. ok im kidding, but look at this! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/M3-SMG-L ... dZViewItem
  12. Hi guys, I have a jdm car but i recently replaced the offside headlight with a USA spec unit. All worked perfectly until after i'd got it back together i noticed it has an extra bulb in it under where the amber reflector strip is on the side. This is now permanently on when the sidelights are on, and looks sh!t. So, i got in through the wheel arch and cut the wires leading to it, so it was simply taken out of the circuit to match the nearside headlight which doesnt have that bulb, but now, i get the fast flashing indicators when i signal right. I wasnt expecting this as surely the circuit is now the same as the nearside? There were 3 wires (surprisingly) going to the bulb - Green (live), Black, and yellow, which i've not seen anywhere else on the headlight. Could this wire be the cause? Anyway, im guessing now i need to put a resistor between the green and black wires to simulate the presence of the bulb... any ideas where i get one of these, or how too fit them? Is it a sealed unit which i attach the wires to, or do i have to fabricate a holder for it or something? Cheers Chris.
  13. Sorry chesterfield, i should have said - i know you can do that! I'll always use Search All, so its just that instead of it taking 1 click to search, i have to go back to my mouse and make a second click! It didnt used to bother me but im using a laptop nowadays, and these trackpads are shite! Im being picky cos im a computer programmer by profession, and we always get customers coming back to us asking for things like this!!!! Cheers Chris.
  14. As the title says - i dont think search for any is useful at all... it is far to vague!
  15. Great stuff, cheers. ...i'll take a look after work.
  16. That is a great vid mate, well done. How was your car after the session? Are you going to need to replace discs and pads now or will they be ok? What else will you need to do to it? How come you kept slowing down every now and then - was it to give your car a break or yourself? This is something i'd be very interested in doing, probably next year, and am keen to learn more about! Cheers Chris.
  17. Ohhh... now that you mention it, it was a 225. Hopefully the 230 will be better cos when i sat in the 225 i was like You guys have got me worried now... i though £400+ tax only applied to cars registered after 2k3???? My Z is a JDM, from Sept 03 i think. I taxed it just last week and it was only £101 for 6 months. Am i gonna get spanked next year????
  18. Ive never driven a 328, but with only 190ish bhp i highly doubt it has a better top end IMO . Ive easily dispatched 330's petrol and diesels too. Also when i bought my DC5 my insurance went down from the price i was paying for the Zed... I agree with what you are saying, so maybe it was the gearing/torque curve? All i know is that when i put my foot down at 80 on the motorway in 5th gear, it would feel like it got to 100 quicker than in my Z. 0-100 in Z is quicker, but it felt like the 80-100 was quicker in the BMW.
  19. Hi Mark... I've been going through the exact same dilemma for the last 6 weeks, and read all the car mags to help with my decision, but after going to look at a few i've decided to keep my Z. The megane was top of my list - until i sat in it. I dont care how well it performs, the interior and driving position were terrible. I was sat upright as if i was driving a Renault Kangoo! The Golf was better, and apparently is the best to own, although its performance is not as hot. But it doesn't stand out. I started looking at Integra's but they're group 20 insurance, so wouldn't be any cheaper. However, my best mate has just bought a 57 plate Civic Type R with 3k on the clock. He's paid £14.5k for it and its brilliant. I hate the look of it - from the outside. However it has THE BEST INTERIOR I HAVE EVER SEEN!! Its like a bloody spaceship. I've never seen anything like it, and once i'd driven it i decided that i could happily own one myself! However, for performance/economy/quality, i would go for a previous shape e46 BMW coupe. I had a 328Ci and performance was excellent - better top end than the Z and comparable 0-60. I would have no problem going back to one of these. ... and fuel was costing me £20 a week less when i had it! Good luck - you've got some tough decisions!
  20. Ok, cancel all that!! Having taken the back off the current headlight, i can see that the import people butchered the headlight and bypassed the HID unit - and bunged an H7 in there! Perfect for what i want!! So if anyone wants a HID headlight - gimme a shout!
  21. Hi folks... My drivers side headlight bulb went out a while ago, and i've only just got the time to fix it now (after 6 weeks!). Secondly, the same headlight is very cloudy on the inside - its not moisture, the clear plastic has gone weird! So, i've bought a new headlight off eBay, which is a non-HID unit. However, now i've just taken my headlight off tonight and i can see that its got the HID ballast on the bottom of it, so i must have HID headlights... My question is, can i retrofit the HID gubbins (technical term) from my current headlight onto the new non-HID unit? If not, then i'll have to do the old 'oven-trick' and swap the clear plastic lenses - which i dont fancy! Cheers Chris.
  22. Cheers Phil, whats the price on that - is it still £59 delivered as i saw on a previous post? I drive 60 miles a day to and from work, so im gonna see if i can get the x-trials locally first thing tomorrow morning, as i dont want to drive thursday/friday if i dont have to. If i cant then i'll be ordering from you at about 11am - is this still early enough for the 1pm Friday delivery? Cheers mate, Chris.
