    Another oil question

Interesting point Mike. I have been running the 0w40 for over 12 months and without any complaints from Nissan Chorley. Will ask Lockwood what they advise and stick to that this time I think though.
  2. As my P3 is due I was wondering, should I continue with my 0w40 oil or should I really change to 5w 30 as recommended? Trouble is, every few k my oil needs topping up 1/2 litre as expected so do I have to buy the same oil from the dealer if they provide 5w 30 or can I mix it with 0w 40 (as I have this in my garage). What's the difference? Are they both fully synthetic? Yes, I tried search but it's not much cop isnt it!
  3. Yup, that's me sorted then for my P3 in a couple of weeks, might just get them to do the oil as well at that price.
  4. Try changing the fluid first - might be worth a stab, when my power steering oil cooler was leaking last week there was loads of crap in the fluid, you'll have to take the bumper off though to get to the pipes.
  5. I had this happen to me last year going round a bend off the M6 onto the M56 I was doing 70mph max as it was quiet a sharp bend and the ESP light flashed no drama from the rear just saw the light flash up, the rears had 3mm which was a bit low, so I put it down to that. But funnily enough, today I booted the car around a quiet bend in second gear and the back end slid out and no ESP kicked in - I'm running Falken 452's and they have loads of tread all round (7mm) , I was kinda predicting this so it was ok and quiet cool....but sometimes the ESP kicks in when I think there is sufficient traction. From the 18 months of owing the Zed I honestly think the ESP is very erractic on the whole.

  7. ^^ me too! This was the only time I have been stopped in the zed!
  8. This should make an interesting thread! Good luck bud...were all behind you...
  9. Hey R800NER, nice find on the vid - quality shooting! And yes, fit a pocharger cold air intake (cai) and your grin factor will defo increase
  10. Shouldn't the plugs have been done on the p3 during the 53k service?
  11. It does look like L&G are a lot cheaper than TDI. Mike's P3 was £193 and the TDI one was £300, I guess the TDI was with them supplying their own oil, give or take £50 for the oil then, so L&G are still cheaper by £50. But...I guess it depends on what extras TDI carried out e.g. gear / diff oil
  12. Thanks guys, I did email TDI but didn't realise I can provide my own oil etc so will ring them tomorrow for a price. Will call your recommendation as well Mike. Cheers all!
  13. This is so funny..... On Friday I was pulling out of Halfords in Wrexham and was driving around a one way system. A 05 MY Black Ford Focus suddenly pulled into a parking space in front of me and then I had to brake suddenly, he then tried to manouvre in the space and was making a right pigs ears of it, anyway I got fed up and drove around him, didn't floor it put just enough for the k&n to make some tunes Next thing I know this Black Ford Focus put it's sirens on, it was an unmarked police car !!! He pulled me over, the conversation went like this:- PC - "So what's your problem, revving your engine like that " he said with a grin on his face Me - "I just thought you were a crap driver making an arse of parking, and you didn't indicate" PC - "I did indicate" Me - "You didn't!!!" PC - "Look if you going to be funny about this I'll take you back and give you a fine, you don't want your car taken off you do you?" Me - "Look, I take your point, but you didn't indicate" PC - "Look, I haven't got time for this we have a prisoner in the boot of another car and I need to deal with that....." PC - "Look, this is a really nice car, don't be revving your engine around town, go and find some back lanes and GIVE IT SOME BEANS" ME - ....gobsmacked, smiled and said "OK" and off he goes....so I took the car around the horshoe pass to test out my power steering fix, and gave it some beans
  14. Defo fixed it All fitted and back together took the car for a 2 hour drive and no leaks. Rare for this to happen on the zed I think but still a massive saving on my side. The creaking noise has gone, I did read that when changing the diff oil / power steering oil you should leave the car overnight for it to settle in. I am very happy - long live the zed! I'll post a how to when I get more time. Thanks to all for their advice & help
  15. I've had my car washed in the past by the stealers and they use brushes, never ever again... If I recall from memory, Nissan Slaters in Abergele have a motorised car wash
  16. Might be worth you watching the following video for some help as well http://350zroadsterclub.com/images/mods ... Small.mpeg It's only the JWT popcharger but you get the jist and a good starting point.
  17. Pm sent mate You've got the same kit as the one I fitted. Let me start off by saying it's a fantastic bit of kit but I found it a bit of a bitch to install, and that was really because I was nervous fitting a cai to my 350z and seating the scoop was a bit of a pain, but I got there in the end, patience and plenty of coffee, oh and a garage if it's raining! Some tips for you (this is not the full install ok!) So what you need to do is remove the old intake as per the k&n instructions, if you don't have them you can download them from the k&n website. remove the maf and install in new intake (check the screws on your old maf as I had a problem with the heads and needed to buy a special screwdriver from b&q), you do not need to remove the bumper fully ok you just have to remove the bolts underneath the bumper, remove the bumper guard, pull the splash guard down and push the scoop up. If you run out of time you can just install the intake & filter without the scoop. I did notice rough idling when warm without the scoop, and when I fitted the scoop the rough idling went away and all is well. And also, make sure you do a ECU reset for the engine to recognise the new intake. Then go and play and listen to that noise!
  18. Pics to come, just too knackered to upload them off the camera. Nissan quoted around £400 to replace the cooler - defo recommend getting it welded if anybody experiences the same problem. Funny thing when I went to the welders, got talking to the owner who was a nice guy, got talking about websites and I might have created some work for myself I offered to build him a website he said yes please. Just hope this creaking stops now and it will be the cheapest repair ever!
  19. Just had an email from them inviting me to this as well. Will book an appointment and go and have a nosey.
  20. I think I’ve fixed it! It's been a busy day, removed the bumper, removed the leaking hose, switched it around to see if the problem moved but the leak was coming from the actual cooler. So I was starting to think I needed to replace the lot, anyway I had an idea - weld the section of the cooler pipe that was weeping oil. So I took the unit to an engineering company and they welded the pipe, took about 1/2 hour and they were fantastic. Charged me £30 but it was well worth it. NB. The cooler unit is made of alluminum so only certain welders will do this work. Got it back home put it on filled up the reserve and no more leaks I think!!! Took it for a short drive on my lane and it seems ok now. Once question I do have is - I refilled with Castrol Dextron ATF iii (this was the one Nissan recommended) I’m now intermittently getting creaking when turning left to right, but it’s not always doing it – could it be that it’s the new oil settling in? Or have I created a new problem Thanks to all for helping and showing concern! Saved myself a few quid I think Well, as long as the creaking goes.
  21. I have this kit too, I can vouch for anybody thinking of buying that it's a sublime bit of kit Noise factor 10, groin factor 20
  22. Does it come with the scoop mate? Mine has the scoop which sits behind the vents under the numberplate. It's a bitch to install, it's not hard, just a bit of a pain. If it's just an intake pipe then it's pretty straightforward. Remember to do a ECU reset after. Oh, one thing - check what type of screws the maf has on it, mine has star shaped scews with a small centre section. I had to go to B&Q to buy 2-3 screwdrivers while in the middle of fitting mine!!! And +1 you do not need to jack up the car, just make sure your on a flat surface (this only applies if your having the scoop). You can pm me as well if you get stuck I'll send you my mobile no if it helps And enjoy the new tunes
  23. Cheers Stan -so many friendly helpful people on here! Look like Alex has given me the answer, I think I'm going to try the following tomorrow:- 1) Remove front bumper. 2) Remove frayed hose. 3) Drain fluid. 3) Goto Pirtek (as recommended by Alex ) 4) Hopefully get a replacement 5) Fit new hose 6) Top up power steering reserve If it all goes to plan should sort it, I feel a lot more confident about it now. And a big big thankyou to Alex for his help. Fingers crossed might be the biggest saving I've made to date, a new cooler system is about £400 fitted, Nissan wanted £100 to supply & fit the hose. Hopefully a few quid and my elbow grease and I'm done.
  24. Alex - sent pm but not sure you got it. Can you give me prices for both please, and seperate prices for the hoses if you can. I'm in no major rush and I would imagine getting the current hose out means removing the bumper. If I can get it out easy there's a pirtek near me. But..if you can provide them then I might as well wait for them Out of interest, if I did take the hose off would the fluid run out and when reattaching the hose is it just a case of simply refilling the reserve without any bleeding necessary? Cheers...Mark.
  25. Anybody recommend any independant garages that do a thorough job of servicing. I'm needing a P3 in 1k and now that I have cancelled my crap warranty direct I can go where I please. I ain't going to Nissan that's for sure. Anybody recommend any local garages, I'm thinking TDI / and the other jap import garage in Warrington (can't remember the name) Any others? Thanks...Mark.
