I know this may be a crackpot idea but have you thought about removing the pax door card so you can see how it all goes together (or apart!) and looked at the locks on there? I know they are not identical but it may help you out.

IIRC both cables should be tight. I know when fitting my handles back that it was a pain cause they both had to be tight.

100% open throttle? If it gives you quicker access to power, would there be any need/use for a throttle controller after having this done (I was thinking D1 spec) - or am I totally confusing things Nope no need for a throttle controller unless you want to be able to change the ammount of signal to the ECU from your pedal. I have a throttle controller.. its called my left foot! Throttle controller wont give your 100% throttle open either! You operate your throttle with your left foot? Just checking people are still awake!!! Its been known on a 500 mile drive though!

No you need to remove the whole of the top I think. Not a difficult job, work from the boot, and get a trim removal tool if you havnt done it before. If your happy removing trim and the poppers at the back, fingers are just as good! Just dont yank to hard!

Mine has been off loads but never with the door closed... Have you removed the top of the cushioned arm rest? Just put your fingers underneath and pull up, you may be able to get your fingers in. Also if you remove the screws that are in the finger recess and below the switches, you may be able to pull the top bit away enough to get your fingers in... Still trying to remember if the drivers side door card I have is the good one or the bad one of the set I have... If is a good one, then your welcome to it if you want to drive over, then we can just cut yours off... Will have a look tonight if you can wait.
