Did he go on to say where the hydrogen comes from, how it's transported/stored, or the energy needed to compress it to 700bar....or the fact the MIRAI still has a lithium ion battery but also a fuel cell stack which uses that really common resource known as platinum

You do realise the MIRAI is essentially an EV but the electricity comes from using Hydrogen to generate electricity to recharge the on board battery pack, if anything this is white good rubbish x2 As for refuelling in 3 minutes, that's if you can find a hydrogen fuel station which is supplying hydrogen at 700bar, most can only deliver 350 bar which gives the car a range of 150 miles, and it takes refuel station 15-20 minutes to 'recharge' after every fill up. You better be packing your bags, UK law already allows for fully automated driving on any roads. Am not sure why everyone thinks this tech is a generation away. Every major car company is throwing their huge chucks of their R&D budget into this tech and am pretty sure within the next 5 years at least some degree of automation will be available to the mass public. I too am unsure just how well the systems will work but the Nissan tech demo shows they aren't far off a commercially viable product!! -
Providing it doesn't fall apart probably at least 8 years (till the battery warranty runs out). I would hope Tesla will offer a denser battery pack in 5-6 years time, I'll happily pay £20-30K for a 120kWh pack - roughly double the capacity of the current pack. Tesla have said they will offer this option, BMW/Renault are offering it now for their cars. Our next car will be to replace wife Lexus IS300H in maybe 2020, after that we will be done with cars for a while. Our daughter will be going to school by than and/or may be more additions to the family so I doubt I'll have much time to waste on cars, so will have to 'slum it' in the X.....Things could be ALOT worse

Oh the car also had a software update that essentially allowed you use MS paint on the massive 17inch screen. My wife found it entertaining to use it to draw a rather unflattering portrait of me whilst she was waiting in the car.... totally pointless feature but made her smile after a frantic Friday after work . http://www.autoblog.com/2017/03/30/tesla-easter-egg-touchscreen-sketchpad/

2 weeks in, 700 miles done, loving the car more and more. Parked up to a mates 911 he acquired recently, and I almost thought he had gone and bought it from Toys R Us!! Also ventured into a multistorey car park, doors are fine, but one sccufed rear 20ich wheel. But most of the time the car has been exploring the local B/unclassified roads, it really does love been hurried around some twisty bits!! Rightnow really cannot think of anything else I rather have on the driveway .

Cannot say I disagree but its coming. Jag apparently have a similar car doing the rounds in Coventry. I have little doubt these things will turn out to be safer than human drivers, for a start they will stick to the speed limit. Once insurance companies are convinced they will loss less money insuring these things it'll be game over for human driver. You will be able to drive your self but your insurance premiums will be astronomical compared to one of these things..... And it'll happen alot quicker than you think. DirectLine is already doing a tiral giving a 5% discount on any Tesla with autopilot software enabled. -

Only 2 meter wide, that must be like driving a classic mini My car is nearly 2.3 meters wide, I take it down some unclassified roads every day at least twice a day, as long as you can judge gaps properly its not an issue!!

The central console is more for the passenger than the driver. I tend to ignore it, and have the rear view mirror on. The dash display though is awesome to use, can be configured to display a whole load of stuff. But they keep on changing the way it looks, version 8.0 is due this week but currently it looks like this.

F pace is a great looking car. All Teslas have had a digital dash since 2012. Dash can display map, music, trip, data, almost what ever you want. Starting price was £47k 12 months ago, currently £62k for the base 60S, 0-60 5.5 seconds. But starting prices going up again in April to £68k as Tesla continues to push up Model S/X prices in preparation for the cheaper 3 releass.

Well that's just silly, our is plugged in at the end of the day but it doesn't actually start charging till 1am and stops charging at 7am when I leave the house.....I really do need to stop driving the thing, not even a week old and already done over 300 miles!!! Most people on the Tesla FaceBook group seem to take their cars straight from the dealer to a detailer to have the latest paint protection stuck/rim protectors put on etc....What do I do, take it to a muddy lane for some 'organic' paint/wheel protection .

Well mine is plugged in every night even though I've yet to drop below 30% battery charge, and I've yet to charge it to above 80%. Battery degradation is really the only major cost/unknown with EVs, as the battery is the biggest cost of the car, a rough estimate says the battery pack our Model X has a manufacturing costs of close to £15-20K. At the moment the advice is to not charging to 100% or depleting down to below 10% too often as a way of preserving battery life, but that may change as real life data is showing these battery packs are simply not failing regardless of how they are been used. Some guy over the pound has recently go hold of some of the cells Tesla use in their battery packs and a ran whole load of tests. It turns out after 500 cycles/depletions there is only roughly 5% degradation, this compares to 30% degradation in a 'normal' battery such as the one you find in your phone. This means at 100K miles (200 miles range per 1 discharge), Tesla's should still have 95% of their 'new' range, which real life data is supporting as there is now quite a few Model S in the states with 200K miles on the clock and still going strong. What's really impressive is that if these numbers are real, even after 2000 cycles the cell is only showing about 10% degradation, that means the battery in our X will in theory last 500,000 miles at which point it will still have 90% of the range it has today!!! Given I drive 8000 miles a year, I'll probably be 6ft under the ground by the time the battery pack in our Model X needs replacing due to cell degradation.

I get some of you have 'concerns' about EVs, but after now covering 300 miles in our Model X all I can say is am speechless a company no older than Facebook has been able build this thing. I had a vague thought about possibly chopping the X in for an iPace before I took delivery but that has now vanished into thin air, if Jag can produce an EV even half as capable as the X I would happy, well happy enough for the wife to get one, the Tesla is all mine 2 years ago when I got a Leaf I remember seeing another EV was an exciting moment, we would flash lights at each other to acknowledge our madness. Yesterday at nursery drop off I parked between a Zoe and i3, as I was leaving a Leaf was pulling in and I got tailgated by a Model S all the way to work. This is apparently the overspill car park at one of the Tesla dealers in the south. All those are brand new cars awaiting delivery, so despite having a starting price of now £70k, offering no discounts, it seems more and more people rather like the idea of EVs and prepared to pay a handsome sum for one!!! Yes I cannot just get up and drive to China tomorrow, but you know what I'm OK with that knowledge .

Real life experience of this - every other car in San Francisco/North California is a Tesla but you dont see any driving between there and LA, or LA and Vegas (where there are none at all) .......... I imagine this is because the first journey is 380 miles and the second is 270 miles and if you run out of leccy youll be stuck in a 120 degree desert - we were getting a bit worried in an ICE with a 70 litre tank Sadly you've picked the worst possible example. California has the highest concentrations of Tesla superchargers in the world. My parents didn't even have a fridge in the house till I was about 4/5, let alone a car to worry about a car seat!! Kids growing up these days (my daughter included) don't know how privileged/spoilt they all are.

I do 95% of nursery drop offs and enjoy the extra time I get to spend with my daughter, now that the initial excitement of a new car has bedded in and things become more routine, the rear doors are fast becoming one of the best features of the car. At nursery drop off I stop the car, tell the rear door to open via the central control panel, by the time I have got out of the drivers seat and around to the child seat I'm greeted by an enormous open space in which to get my daughter out without having to worry about low roof lines, awaked door openings, and it works well as an umbrella!! The doors than close at a touch of a button. Honestly I don't know how I've managed all this before in a car with normal doors

Fuel cell cars cost more than a Tesla, have less range, significantly slower, and heavier.

^^ People still ride horses for fun so equally people will always have combustion cars for fun. Interestingly for me the drive to look at EVs was also a selfish one, there was no way my wife would OK me getting another 25mpg petrol car, where as with the Tesla she contributed to half the cost of purchase based on its 'green' credentials no matter how real/unreal that is .

All debate about EVs aside all I can say am loving the X . Our next car purchase will either be an iPace or Model 3.

Nearly 10 years ago I remember taking the Z down a narrow single track country road and thinking this is what driving is about... I couldn't have imagined a decade later I would be on the same road in an electric car made by a company that barely exised back than!! Our Tesla Model X arrived at the weekend after a 8 months wait, and despite our car been the slowest and cheapest Model X you can buy it's totally redefined what I think a car can/should do!! A 2.5 ton 6 seater 5 meter long SUV shouldn't feels at home been trashed around the B/unclassified roads but it does. It's a car that on paper has no right to feel so nice to drive quickly, but it like all good cars when hurried it seems to shrink in size and puts a smile on my face. 0-30 mph is painful as your thrown into the seat, after that the acceleration tails off to the same as my old Z, so not that quick but more than enough for family ferrying duties, which since the arrival of my daughter some 11 months ago is the most vital function of our cars. But again I have to keep on reminding my self this is a for all intents and purpose a small van not a 2 seater GT coupe, which is how it feels like to drive!! Oh and than once you stop driving it there are the gull wing doors that really should't work but do, powered front doors that open/close for you, an endless windscreen, built-in Spotify/web access via 4G to keep you occupied.....It's crazy any car company have managed to build this thing, let alone one thats only been around for a decade!! The Leaf may have shown me the potential of EVs for the future, the Model X is the future, except its not, its parked in my driveway right now . The Tesla dealership resembled a RangeRover car park when I picked up our X, so the word is getting out. As a family wagon nothing else on the market comes close to offering the ability/occasion of the X. The old guard really need to step up their game, time/progress waits for no one.
