  6. TWO Carlisle youths - one just 14 - have been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a policeman after an incident near Cockermouth A male officer is in the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven with serious injuries after he was hit by a car near the Fitz Cottage roundabout at around 5.15am A police statement said a stinger device was used to stop a Vauxhall Corsa, which collided with a police car and the policeman The incident has caused traffic chaos around west Cumbria today as a major police investigation begins. The A595 between the Moota and Belle Vue roundabouts is closed, as is the A66 between the Sheep & Wool Centre and the Brigham-Great Broughton junction Drivers have been forced to take diversions of up to 20 miles to avoid the area. Officers first received reports at around 4am that a blue Vauxhall Corsa had been stolen from Carlisle. The car later left a petrol station in Workington without paying for fuel It was then seen driving erratically and at high speed on the A595 and was followed by police. The stinger device was then used at the Fitz Cottage Roundabout to bring the car to a stop The driver and passenger of the stolen vehicle, who are aged 17 and 14 and both from the Carlisle area, were detained at the scene and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer. Deputy Chief Constable Christine Twigg said: "When an incident like this happens to an officer going about their normal duties it has a major effect on family, colleagues and the wider community. “As a Constabulary we will do everything we can to provide support at this difficult time, and at the same time, bring the offenders to justice." Police are now appealing for witnesses who saw a blue Vauxhall Corsa between Carlisle and West Cumbria between 4am and 5:30am
  7. A look round your garage at home was an eye opener, and free coffee Cant wait to see the new premises and the re-signed truck
  8. Think thats the problem, if you can fit in to the way they want to travel and stay away from peak times you are fine. If not you are standing and get caned on the price. I could fly from Blackpool to Stansted for about a quid. The times wont work though and I still have the nightmare of getting from Stansted to work. There is also the issue of airport parking charges but thats another rant
  9. Used to get the train to work, very expensive, often late, very boring and a long journey. Got sick of it and started driving, got bored and bought the Zed. I now look forward to my 6 hour commute
  10. Maybe because I live in the sticks but does it have to be a city at all. Not suggesting up here ( ) but a decent hotel anywhere central would do. Then again my clubbing days are a distant memory. Chester is nice
  11. If you want an embarrassment of natural riches on your doorstep, then South Lakeland might just be the place. The area has two of the country’s most breathtaking national parks, with vast swathes of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales covering the district, and can also boast Windermere, England’s largest natural lake and a dream for lovers of watersports, all of which attract thousands of tourists every year. And if that wasn’t enough to tempt you; the area also has the lowest crime rate in Cumbria and the second lowest in the North West. Not surprisingly, South Lakeland is among the top ten second home hotspots in the country, which has inflated the prices in recent years. Subsequently, the average price of a house is £236,569, which sits well above the national average, following an increase of 7.9% over the year. Forgot to mention the weather though
  12. Out for a drive today and saw a TR7 convertible, had one for a while and thought it was cool. It looked awfull.
  13. Just getting the muck off the car and looks like the new bodykit isnt all that will need spraying Could have been worse though
  14. If you put your nail / credit card under the washer you will find it is 'spring loaded' (not exactly, but it extends up with very little effort) and can be lifted up. With one hand or a pair of pliers you can hold the washer proud of the bumber and work at unclipping the painted cover. Other than that, it's a bolt and panel clip removal effort in the arches and along the top / bottom of the bumper. = The washer will pop out if you lever it with your finger nail or a credit card. It can then be lifted clear. Hold the washer away from the bumper with one hand ( or even better Limiters hand). The panel can then be removed by undoing the bolts and panel clips in the arches and the top/bottom of the panel.
  15. So I have been playing with flat pack furniture all day and needed a break. Jumped into the car for a quick spin and soon Coming off a dual carriageway onto a single lane so easing from 70 to 60. In front of me is a yellow delivery wagon doing about 60. He drifted over to the wrong side of the road, over corrected and slammed the van into a sandstone wall ripping out the side of the van. This stopped the van quite effectively. Fortunately I was watching and slammed on the brakes. The Brembos did their bit and worked well. I then thought " good job there is nothng behind me" when a focus came charging round the bend behind me and locked up He stopped inches from the back of the Zed. Then had a horrible few second while we waited for a few other cars to test their brakes. Very very lucky not to get what is known in motoring circles round here as a Chesterfield. Back to the DIY
