Well firstly it is best to check the engine oil when cold. Obviously on a flat level surface. Granted its a bit fiddly getting dipstick back into the hole but you should be able to see the oil level clearly. Other than that i cant see what you are doing wrong.
really - when cold? Yes I am checking on a flat surface -a garage forecourt.
So it has to be when cold then ?
I must be a numpty but I find it very hard to check my oil.
I wait till the engine is warm. Pull the dipstick - and wipe, then replace (with great difficulty I have to admit - its like a bloody corkscrew !)
Then I pull the dipstick again and can see no clear oli level, it seems all over the stick. What on earth am I doing wrong?
I had a friend who had a similar problem with a 6 month old Beemer and they wrote it off. we thought it was some sort of scam as the car was OK to drive after a few days. BMW came back and said the problem was a contamination one ,what ever that means.
Good luck though
I'm sooo with you. But as the others say I would get tooo wound up if I thought about it too much.

After it speaks back the name, you have to say
"Dial"
This one got me at first....Why do you have to say 'dial' again when you have already said 'dial name/number'? what else would they expect you to do?
I agree, I just think it is generally more difficult for us "Marks"
