I'd never heard of double red lines until this, so I'd say signage is appropriate... albeit the correct signage

Welcome aboard. 350Z wins hands down between that and a C0ckster, S2000 or Z4. If you need rear seats then the Monaro is the choice...

If I have understood this correctly they have said you were on a double red? ... if this is the case then the sign doesn't match the road markings according to your diagrams. If they are saying you are on a double red, they may assume (regardless of the photo you have sent as they are idiots) that the sign is marked "No stopping at anytime" ... hence the fine.

I would have beaten the living daylights out of him! +1 I got a dent in my door on the 350 a while back. It was tiny and nobody noticed it unless I pointed it out, but I knew it was there! It was some old badger that couldn't get into his car and whacked mine. The funny thing was it was at Rosslyn Abbey (Divinci Code) and there is me in the car park swearing like a madman. . . I'm going straight to hell. Anyway I called DentDevils, the guy that does our area is fantastic. £50 sorted. The guy done it and said that he wasn't totally happy with it, but it was as good as he could get it... I'm looking at it thinking, where was the dent?!?
