  1. For my car (UK, 54 plate), the microphone is definitely up on the roof by the rear view mirror. The sound is supposed to come out of the audio system. Same for JDM - I think I have this right chaps, yes? Peter
  2. Bound to make the front page of Tw*ts Power magazine...
  3. National Carphones has just confirmed to me that the base unit is encrypted and that their products definitely will not work on the Nissan. I'm in the almost the same position as you Graham... except that I've never had a mobile phone so am starting from scratch. Already have base unit fitted. Quite like the Nokia 6230i. Peter
  4. Can't get the login to time out after 20 mins so presumably not the same problem as I've had elsewhere.
  5. I'll try it out in the test area and let you know what I find here.
  6. I get the same problem on another car forum. The login does not time out if I'm browsing the forum but does time out if I'm composing a post as I'm doing here. I'm then in the same situation of having to rewrite it and usually forget something that I remembered before. Reeeaally annoying. A workaround, but not a very convenient one, is to either compose a long reply using a another text editor like Notepad then copy/paste from there or like I'll do here: to copy the text top the clipboard before I submit the post "just in case".
  7. These switches are a problem. Not only do I knock them on but I cannot see them without moving my gaze such a long way from the road ahead. Haven't investigated the wiring and how much slack there is, nor how to remove the whole centre thing but I wonder if there is any scope for relocating the switches on some kind of panel where the ashtray goes. It would be harder to knock them on there. Alternatively, the ashtray unit itself might do the job with its built-in cover. Since my car is still under warranty and I've had it less than a week, I'm reluctant to mess with it just yet... Peter
  8. I've put Stratos pics in the gallery under my username of mudhut on the third page. I'll have to resize the 350Z pics in this thread - didn't realise the 1MB limit included uploads to threads and to the gallery all together.
  9. Hi chaps. Competition answers first: full marks to hanel and especially IT10 - its a Hawk Stratos replica, my not-so-sensible two seater. The orange reflection is my son's VX220. I couldn't shift the dealer much on price. Got some mats and net into the bargain, Supagard paint sealant (IMO after one day a waste of money - could have had that protective film applied for the same kind of money. It's a really high margin item for dealers). Managed to get 5k of the price at zero percent over two years which made me feel better. Spec is standard with GT pack/Alezian leather. I have had idiot sensors fitted to the rear bumper but I think they would be useful at the front too as I'm an all-round idiot. FWIW I'm not impressed by the quality of the paint but the rest of the car blows me away even if the throttle/clutch is a little touchy when pulling away. At least the clutch is quite light though.
  10. Good point, thanks. Will edit relevant posts.
  11. That's where I work. You'll see it in ********* car park.
  12. Anywhere's fine by me say up to 50 miles away weekday evenings, further w/ends. August calendar seems a bit empty... Southampton is also fine but I'll have to drive to Newbury and back or I won't feel like I've actually been anywhere.
  13. Ok thanks chaps. I note that access to technical content is for members only there. I don't propose to add any more to this that might cause a problem for anybody. I've made my decision
  14. And on the subject of asking questions... I signed up here because this is the forum I found first. I've now also found the owners' club forum and signed up there too. Now I don't want to open up old wounds but would somebody point me to some threads that will help me understand the nature of the split please?
  15. Yes, they do look good and my short drives in this and the convertible were even better. Getting really fed up waiting...
  16. Interesting. Is the kit a Nissan part? How many leads are there? Dealer fit or d-i-y? I've noticed that my old Alfa has numerous ground wires and does not rely on fixings passing through gaskets for earth continuity. I suppose that the increasing use of plastics and electronics has made this necessary. Makes sense to try to get all grounds as close as possible to the same voltage. Peter
  17. Ok chaps and thanks. Question number one: what's a ground kit?
  18. Hi all. Just bought a '54 plate black GT coupe, UK car. Can't wait to get it but have to wait until Tuesday. This is going to be my daily driver and my sensible two seater. Too old to pull any more... Peter
