PS Take all plastic bits off that you can - after the initial spray round - and wash be hand in a bucket of hot soapy water. Much easier and get UNDERNEATH stuff. Stops horrid cleaning lines!! -

Strange aint it but we all do it the same. Decent engine degreasant and a slack hand full of brushes - old tooth brushes are very useful. A free afternoon and an understanding Mrs Ming. Some sh*tty old clothes and a plentiful supply of tea. Cover all the connectors, splash it all over (I use an old pump bottle of some sort as the degreasant gets into nooks and crannies better.) Lots and lots of scrubbing with brushes and a rinse off with hot water. Repeat lots of times until all the crap has gone then wash with soapy water to remove the residue. (Stirrup pump bottle with soapy water puts it into places under pressure and again is a great help.) PS Wah the drive at this stage as well before it all dries and makes a mess. Keeps the Mrs Happy. When dry and clean start with a brillo pad or domestic sanding block on all the old pitted ally. Solvo Autosolv and another tooth brush gets great results. You can use very fine wet and dry but I try and avoid it. Brasso also brings up a good final finish. No secrets really just a long day, stiff back and bleedin hard graft. The results though are ALWAYS worth it!! The results will always be dependant on what you started with but NOTHING is beyond being brought back to life! Ming the Obsessed -

Rob My lad was SEVENTEEN!!!!!!!!!!! He wanted an install like all the other seventeen year olds ....... but ....... BETTER!!!!!!!!!! Thats what he got. Alos it was about five years ago. Its not how I would do it but I am nearly 48!! I can tell you that in the peer group he knocked about in at that time it blew the oposition into the weeds. Not only that but taking the components out - and he funded them - it cost us less than £100!!!!! Styles change. Christ look at what WE all used to wear!! Have no fear nothing ike this will go any where near the Zed. I am going to use leopard print. The Whole idea of the pics was to show H5 what we could do, not what we are going to do! Rules restrict the imagination For every person who will look at a 10,000 watt install that can make ears bleed and watch their erection rise there will those that vomit and run for the hills. My ideal car is one with lots and lots of little changes and minor mods that together make a BIG improvement. Good luck mate my mind is already in overdrive. Ming the Interested -

Engine bay bling: Ming vs H5 1 year long challenge
Emperor Ming replied to H5's topic in Car Detailing
Agreed mate. After all it is my every day car and is not garaged. I see it as all about being CLEAN and subtle. Theme wise the car is going to stay reasonably standard. There will be no great big ironing board/shopping trolley spoilers on the back or lips so low it grounds out on a pea. The engine bay will be simple with one colour added to what is already there. It will however be VERY VERY clean. I have plans to replace several bits under the bonnet and each bit I add will in one way or the other be changed from standard. The interior has not yet been considered as it is already comfy and, with leather, quite nice looking. I have a set of quality Nissan mats that finish it off nicely. The boot area is one I have a few ideas for. (Don't worry there is not going to be great big speakers and subs and amps everywhere I am far too old for all that!! ) Hell i am giving far too much away here!! What plans do you have mate?? Ming the Considered -
Hi Mate Welcome to the mad house. You will find lots of useful stuff on here, so long as you search hard amongst the madness. Great place to hang whilst on the computer

Hi Guys and gals This is a request to all those of you who have upgraded to a carbon fibre engine cover. Is your plastic cover available? I have a little idea and don't want to risk it on mine in case it doesn't work! Am willing to part with beer tokens obviously. Cheers Ming the thinker

Emperor Ming replied to H5's topic in Car Detailing
Hi H5 Agreed. I did make the most of the sunshine. Its also good that both cars are Gun Metal Grey. There is not even going to be a 'well I prefer ............. colour' issue. I reckon we continue to post pics as we go along and store a couple of 'work in progress'files somewhere. On a set date next year we meet up at a show somewhere and let the club members decide. Those that can't make it get to vote on the photo files and the winner gets the six pack and trophy of 'King of Bling' It will be a straight H5 or Ming vote! Any other suggestions greatlfully accepted mate! I would open it up to other site members for suggestions but cetain persons on here would end up suggesting nude polishing or inserting vegetables in your exhaust pipes for extra points or other such inane ideas!! I can't wait to start taking things off so that I can clean BEHIND and UNDERNEATH them!! The PURPLE is coming! What plans do you have mate or is that going to be a little surprise along the way? Ming the ready PS Where are the pics of your show car? Show me those and I will show you what we did with my GTO Twin Turbo engine bay. (I'm sad I have loads and loads of pics!! ) -
I wait to get shot down in flames here but I have had three new cars in the past and allthough none of them could be called performance vehicles none of them used a drop of oil between services and not a drip from new. Some engines are more prone than others, my old jag being one, but to loose/use so much oil on a brand new engine is not right. (A Maxda RX8 might be an exception as rotary engines do use al ot of oil) If this were the case we would be being told on purchase. I am sure it does not state the need to top up your engine on a regular basis in the handbook. With new engines you should check the engines oil and water once a month and older ones once a week. this is only a precaution. If it were me and my engine had lost so much oil in 3000 miles i would be down to Nissan and having a right old rant and rave and DEMANDING a full engine check together with a compression check to make sure that all is well. I would EXPECT Nissan to pay for this. this situation is not an owner fault in my humble opinion. Topping it up, changing the filter and hoping that any problem MIGHT manifest itself in the three years of warranty is not a sensible option. GET IT SORTED NOW!! Ming the Opinionated
-
Hi mate You said 'topped up'. How much oil did you put in? If its all gone quiet you should be OK as the noise from damage usually stays. Fingers crossed. PS 3000 miles I would expect ZERO oil usage!! Ming the Surprised

H5 Firstly an apology. I posted the Honda pics without thinking and did not mean to steal you thunder - and your thread. You engine bay is looking good and clean and is going to be a great base for further enhancement. I only get mine dirty so that I can wash it again!! Three Carnuba wax treatments in as many weeks means BIG Shine!! As your engine bay and mine are both bog standard how about a blow by blow (Pic by Pic) competition to see who can produce the best engine bay. Judged by the site in a poll in say 12 months time and the looser buys the winner a six pack?? I will admit now that I have some bits ready to go under the powder coaters attentions to start the ball rolling. I would not want it said that I set the challenge with an unfair advantage! Ming the Challenge setter!
