  1. For insurance, in future i recommend going through a specialist broker. Sky INsurance and Chris Knott both offer forum discount, and specialise in performance cars Yup I will be trying them next time, but I have found that Admiral are very competitive with multicar and for some reason seem to like young blokes with fast cars as they've always been the best price for me!
  2. Yes you are correct with regard OBDII. Its done via poling and the ECU can only support one request at a time, so the more things you want to display will make it more and more slower to respond. The VAGCom lead may or may not work, depending on what it does with the OBD data. If it wraps it in some kind of way only for VAGCom, then generic software wont be able to use it. If it passes it through like a normal generic OBD reader then it will be ok. One other member tried on here to make it work and failed. As for the software side of it, I guess its just a case of trying a few things out. I use a program called DashCommand, which is designed to make digital dashes, which I have embedded on my CarPC so that it displays a GTR like dash on my 7" touch screen. For proper logging software, you'd need to do a google to find whats best. I have PCM Scan, but I think thats out of date now.
  3. Sam Theres plenty you can do to the car. From a performance perspective, the thing that most dissapoints new owners is that there isnt a lot of extra power to be had from the engine without serious money - into the thousands - but that doesnt sound like it will be a problem for you as it already has more than enough power for now On the handling front there are the usual mods, suspension, anti-roll bars, better brake kits. For now I'd get used to the standard kit and see how you get on. On the noise front there is plenty to do again, new exhausts and intakes, again that will come in time. Styling wise, well whatever you like really! With all these things, have a search around the forum and you will find a wealth of information. For photos, upload them to photobucket (its free) and post the links it generates on here Enjoy the car
  4. I've not done it myself, but my Dad use to do stuff like this all the time, so he will be helping me do it. More concerened about the wiring for the seats as i wasnt the heated and electric motors to work, Bit over kill for Playstation but should be good. Just trying to find a cheap transformer/inverter that goes 240v a.c. - 12v d.c. Be good to see how you get on Like I say, mine wore through in high wear areas (drivers bolsters) and had to re-do them twice now. Wiring up the seat shouldnt be hard, splicing a 12v feed to them is easy enough. Having a heated PlaystationSeat is a bit over kill though
  5. Twas away on Sunday, and didnt get to look at it until the evening All back on track now and slowly clawing back places
  6. Says the man that has Ali G to thank for the last part of his username..... AAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
  7. Oooh, you just wait for Nixy and Bronzee to be along with their slap smilies! Well i don't mind doing some of myself in a thong on my zed You might just win em round with that

We were guesstimating around £40-45k here at work, so £42k sounds right to me. Undoutebly it will be very well build and go like the stink, but at nearly £15k more than the 370z, its just too much for me. Same as a Porker.
  9. Tidied the title a bit mate, makes it more informative and should get more responses
  10. Oooh, you just wait for Nixy and Bronzee to be along with their slap smilies!
  11. That would get their attention Also check out the traders section and try giving them a PM. Plenty of traders to chose from.
  12. Traders section on this very site is always a good start I'm sure the various traders will chip in what they can supply in good time, then pick the cheapest as they are all very reputable
  13. As Mark says, a generic reader (OBDII to USB) will get you 1 and 2, and 3 with fancy software/hardware. 4 I dont think is really doable Consult which is Nissans software, so unlikely to get that. On the case of real time datalogging, remind me, does VAGCom use the OBDII protocol or CANBUS? I seem to remember it used CANBUS. With the Zed you can get some details from OBDII which is what Mark has with his HKS Camp2 and I have via my CarPC, however this isnt nearly as detailed as I remember VAGCom could do. Also the poll times are limited on OBDII with only a certain number of requests per second being answered, whereas CANBUS allows much more. The option of adding real sensors to the Camp2 brings it back in line with VAGcom but adds more expense. Hope that helps
  14. My missus likes to drive my car into meets to see the look on peoples faces when they think its hers Guess with pink dice theres no doubt its yours
  15. Oh I see, so its because you had the 1.6s without the Gen2 there was more work to do to make it quick? £500 for 45BHP sounds reasonable. Definately a quick car and not to be underestimated.
  16. With out a doubt the best thing to get more out of a car is driver training. Unless you are the Stig, there is always more you can learn, and until you can truely take the Zed to the limits (to the limits, not past!) training will always gain you the most bang for buck. Once you can handle the car on the limits, then look to move them
  17. I would go for intake and plenum spacer. Pleunum requires no tuning as it just redistributes the air more evenly. Intake will allow the engine to breath more and coupled with the exhaust and SAFC should unlock a tiny bit more power but not a lot. Have you had it dynoed before and after the SAFC tune? How much did the SAFC cost? Havent heard much about them before.
  18. Mine is exactly the same with regard to the steering. Its just because its not particularly aided by the power steering, so if you have a lot of lock on, the inertia of the wheels will keep it pointing in the direction you turned rather than coming back to centre. Mainly I find it only happens when I turn tight turns (ie junctions), round rounderbouts it will return to centre. Also after reading the others posts, it should if you are going in a near straight line, return to dead centre, and not require any input. If it does then the tracking will be out. Refurbed Rays are very common. They bubble a lot and anyone anal (like most of us on here!) will have them done. Ask them why they were done and if they say bubbling or corrosion, you know it was legit
  19. Amanda would be up for that, piccy heaven!
  20. Its fairly easy, just be careful with the bolts when you tighten them up. They need next to no force when tightening. We've had a few members strip the threads before doing them too tight
  21. I've heard imports are tuend to run on even higher RON stuff, so the higher the better
  22. My Zeds Nissan mats lasted almost 5 years, only just got a new set. The original set still look ok, and clean up looking like new. The new ones are a nice thick carpet. +1 - mine are 5yrs/63k miles and not too much wear on them. Could probably do with some new ones, but much more important things need doing first!
  23. Yup, I think Opie were the cheapest when I went to do mine.
