  1. Ah got your interest then! :D

It’s raining in Newcastle and you know what I’m happy. :teeth: The reason--- the mean machine seems to gain 20bhp when it rains. It seems more responsive, sharper and overall faster.

Now come on you technocrats, WHAT’s HAPPENING, is it just me or is there a reason for this. This could by the route to your very first million

  2. It’s the LH indicator on mine that’s the main problem to. The root cause is obviously the cancelling mechanism on the column but had a go at getting in to look at it and gave up, it looks to be a nightmare, hence the mod.

I fitted a couple of RS 626-141 piezo sounders I acquired long ago; however the part number seems to still be valid with RS.

The current model doesn’t seem to have the duel in line switches mounted on the back like mine however it doesn’t really matter all you need is a constant tone at a suitable dB level, mines around 100dB.

I’ve mounted them in the boot next to the polystyrene structures on either side near the indicator wiring, so when the spare wheel’s in position and the various top covers are on as well as the tonneau cover, I’m not sure this is the optimum position following trials. When my daughter is in and has the music on at around level 15 they are difficult to hear, so I’m looking to move mine. I just stuck them in with sticky pads to try the position first and if moved closer you can put a sticky label over the to calm them down if required (mine have a volume control as well don’t know about the current model).

Hears photos of mine (if I can get them loaded)

  3. I know it’s been more than a while but I said Id get back on this one. Well the auto electrician who said there was a mod for this problem didn’t come through. Ive chased him long enough but he keeps fobbing me off. Guess there isn’t one.

Anyway I recon Ive solved the problem myself. Its not the most elegant solution but its cheap, easy to fit and works a treat.

I used two Radio Spares audible alarms (small things which take milliamps of current to operate) and connected one to each rear indicator, I said it was simple. The type I used allows various sounds depending on the setting of a little duel in line switch.

When the indicators are on I can hear the “beepâ€

  4. I usually park on another street that joins mine, about twice as wide and much quieter but couldn't get a space on Friday. The little scratches have Tcut out but the 3 main ones are deep as f*ck. Grrrrrr. Might aswell make it worthwhile going into the bodyshop, where's Phil!

Bastards, :boxing: don’t you just want to knock them out-----for ever!

I know it probably greaves you to see the scratches but you could leave them in case it or something similar happens in the future. Pay to put it right when you sell.

  5. WORSE THAN ALL THESE IS THAT THE BLOODY INDICTORS DONT CANCEL UNLESS YOU DO A SERIOUSE AMOUNT OF STEERING WHEEL TURNING.

HAD MANY NEAR MISSES :scare: WHEN PEOPLE AT 'T' JUNCTIONS THOUGHT I WAS TURNING IN HAVING JUST MADE ANYTHING LESS THAN A FULL 90DEG LEFT TURN. CANT HEAR THEM IF EITHER MUSIC OR A/C ON. THE INDICATOR LIGHT ISNT VERY BRIGHT AND GETS BLANKED OFF BY MY HANDS ON THE WHEEL

BLOODY DANGEROUS IF YOU ASK ME

I thought it was just mine! Why oh why did they not spot this when making it!! :headhurt:

i dont seem to have this problem... honestly turn the wheel about 45 degrees and it cancels plus ive got in to the habit of self cancelling from couple of years back....

also.... if u know the self cancelling system is a bit iffy.... why dont u cancel the indicators yourself...surely thats a case of bad driving on your own behalf?

    -ho

Its not about bad driving, it’s about bad design. Yes the driver could get into the habit of self cancelling after a while but during that time he’s vulnerable. Its easy to forget and once could be enough. What’s the point of designing a self cancelling mechanism that only works “up to a pointâ€

  7. Bought mine at Tesco (for a 300ZX Mk1) £3, their 18" and fit straight from the box. The front ones should be 19" but Ive had them on for several months now and no probs, work fine and cant fault them. :teeth: Should say though that the wind deflector on the drivers side had broken off on mine in an earlier incident and had ty-wrapped it back on at the time. When fitting the Tesco blades had to do the same again but no probs.

Oh by the way your right I am a geordie cheap skate but who cares Ive got lots of extra little friends jingling in my pocket now :D

  8. So are we starting a save money on Zed motoring thread

Ok lets see - when your tyres wear out - save money - buy a £1 magic marker (from the Pound Shop of course) and just draw some more tyre tread on - simple yet effective! :teeth:;)

Offsets the cost of fuel dont you think ;) . Dont see the point of spending £15 quid or so on branded wipers when these seem just as good.

With my change I can invest in a couple of more litres.

That tyre idea's got possibilities by the way :D

  9. i think we are on slightly different planets!

    care 2 explain?

Sorry Martin I dont get out much you know  Batch 2 foto's first frame entitled NICE, top left hand corner. Dont understand all the oily bits in the foto but it caught my eye.

By the way hope it all turns out ok and you enjoy the improved performance.

  10. are these standard (old skool) wipers or flat blades? also, have you got the model number/description?

No idea. They look the same as the original ones and you dont have to fit any plastic bits to put them on (already fitted) Just pull the old one off and pop the Tesco one on. They come in a plasic covered blue box with Tesco 18" Wiper Blades written on the top. No numbers anywhere but on the vehicle list written on the back it says suitable for a Nissan 300 ZX Mk 1.

  11. Suppose your all fully aware of this and Im playing catch up, but just bought a set of 18" front wiper blades from Tesco £3.00 each and they fit :yahoo: . Unfortunatly I now also know that the drivers side is longer, must be 19" but it looks ok.

By the way the wind deflector on the driver’s side had brocken off a few weeks ago when I lifted the bonnet with the blades up. I attached it back on with black ty-wraps (cant see the join) so just swapped it over. Will buy a 19" tomorrow and use the spare 18" on the back.

I cant help anyone with how the wheels go around so tell me Im able to help someone please :p

  12. Silly question, but what are the advantages of spacer other than it looks so much better?

It widens the track and therefore could be argued it will improve the grip. The main advantage though is as you say, it looks better. :)

So kind of changes the mass of the car to spread over a wider square footage, thus improving the roll of the car and therefore grip?

Yeah I suppose you could say that. The improvement in grip however is so marginal you probably wouldn't notice any difference imo.

Bought a set of 20mm spacers from Phil and fitted them last week. I certainly can notice a difference. Apart from the much improved looks, I do seem to get more feeling through the steering wheel and also feel a difference in the corners. I don’t scream around corners but I can notice the difference so much so its raised my confidence level.

Well worth the money. Just wish Id fitted them sooner which

  13. Hi,

I have just got a decent PCP quote from my local dealer in Folkestone Kent. It's for a brand new non-GT with extras. All finance approved, have one more test drive booked on Friday before paying my deposit and joining the ranks of the 'OMG petrol is expensive' brigade ;):yahoo:

    PCP as below (10,000mile pa).

    Total cash price £26,678

Deposit (my car plus £550) £6,750

    Amount of Credit £19,928

    Total charge for credit £4,444

    Monthly Payment 36 x £363.51

    Guaranteed Future Value £11,065

Basically at the end of the 3 years you have 3 choices.

    Give the car back.

Pay off the GFV and its yours.

PX it. The The figure they give you is guaranteed (as long as you are not over your allowed annual mileage) but it should be worth a bit more. If its worth a bit more you can put the difference towards a new purchase.

    Hope this helps :)

PS the reason for a second test drive is the Nissan head office is sending down a 'Select' vehicle. A GT model with all the toys, like sat-nav, only 6 months old with 4,000miles on the clock and £2K cheaper than the new non-GT. Should be a no brainer but i still like the idea of being that first owner and knowing the car hasn't been caned for its first 4K miles.

Can I just clarify this a little.I’ve heard of this method of buying a car but never got to find out how it works?

To own the car for 3 yrs costs you:-

    £6750 deposit + £13086 ( £363.51 x 36) = £19836

then at the end of 3yrs you get £11065 back

    so it cost you £8771

Is that right? Or have I failed my basic maths yet again!

  14. Well Ive sorted it--and your just not going to believe this.

The car was on the hard stand in the back garden and having put the pads in position on the very last wheel, I decided to have a bru before putting the wheel back on. So I put the kettle on and what do you think--

While in the kitchen someone must have climbed over my six foot security fence, taken one of my pads back out and replaced it the wrong way around, then scarpered. The metal of the pad was rubbing against the disc making the noise. Good job I didnt brake to heavilly when testing it.

Told you you wouldnt believe it.

Put it back in the correct way around and not a squeek now.

    SOME BLOODY PEOPLE Eh!!!

Please dont tell anyone though, cos they may get the wrong impression and think it was me

Thanks once again for all your advice in my hour of need.

I won't mention the spacers then

Car looks much better with those 20mm sapacers you supplied Phil. Thanks once again for a fast efficient service and most importantly a very good price. Will always check with ESR for my bits in future to be sure to be sure.

also here for advice as well, don't always have to spend money despite what others may infer.

Agreed 100%. You were most helpfull with my telephone questions and is why I'd buy from you in the future (my cheque's in the post isnt it?)
