I have run 8.5's & 10's with 245/30/20 front and 275/30/20 rears with an et20 on standard ride height with no issues.

I'd be annoyed that they opened the package to find out there was a cheque in there.....could have been a christmas card

Not worth it tbh, he doesn't advertise anywhere and all his modding work was word of mouth and his name is now mud locally so he won't be getting any repeat custom work. He works out of an unsignposted unit miles from anywhere and just does insurance work it seems.

Cheers guys, appreciate the comments It is still with my solicitor but it's not looking like it can go anywhere legally speaking due to not enough evidence as I didn't have a full agreement in writing of what work would be carried out by when. It's a joke tbh. I could persue it but it could end up costing me even more money and the stress it has caused me already has been more than I could do with. I am a firm believer in fate though, what goes around, comes around so I am sure life will balance the equation at some point. Bit annoying but just have to look forwards and not dwell on it.

Spent a full day on it saturday as I was getting the feeling I was getting nowhere fast! Wanted to concentrate on the front end. Spent a fair proportion of the day rubbing back the arches and making sure they are 100% perfect. I also rubbed back the front bumper, prepped and sprayed it and refitted the reflectors along with a new mesh grill which was supplied by Alex...cheers for that, was perfect for what I needed Also fixed a couple of pin dents in the front wing and smoothed them off, prepped and painted that as well. Arches almost finished apart from the tips I also cut back the bootlid and prepped this as ther were a couple of fine cracks in it. This still needs work.

You never know what people have done to their cars though. The Golfs are fairly easily tuneable and could have easily had a power hike, or as you say, was in a better gear to get going. I wouldn't be too disheartened.
