LP640 vs Gallardo vs 997 Turbo vs GT3 vs Scooby vs Exige S
Kev946 replied to Kev946's topic in Other Cars
Was that an engine in the exige or a hairdryer?? Small but peautifully formed.... Moral of the story Sarnie is Lambo's are quick.......for about 3 laps.... Apparently both the Lambo's broke down, the LP640 was the clutch not sure on the Gallardo. I bet the LP640 clutch cost about the same as a new engine in the Exige.. -
Think of it this way. Because he went underneath, the car did not have to absorb anywhere near the impact, so this could have been alot worse in a normal car. Normally the light weight car comes off far worse. At least the guy and his wife are OK.. Does it really matter that the car didnt have to absorb more impact? If he was in say another big car..say a 5 series and had hit the audi he wouldn't have felt too much either, especially at 30mph, maybe abit of whiplash at the most. Him getting out alive is the main thing. Yes it does. Small cars often come off a lot worse was my point. Imagine what could have happened if he had been in a light weight car but not so low, say a Smart..

Sarnie will like this one, right up to the last lap. Don't want to spoil the ending, but let's just say the Lambo reliability becomes a factor... http://www.dpccars.com/car-videos/11-03 ... xige-S.htm BTW a bit of a power circuit from the loo of the long straights. I would love to see the same race on a short track, aka Top Gear.

Apparently he was on his way back from a Hethel Lotus Factory Open Day..

Hard luck mate. As Tim said, check if they are chromed or not. If they have a chromed finish on top of the alloy then polishing them make them look worse as the alloy underneath is a different colour metal. I had a tiny mark on my Work Wheels, and I was able to use a very fine piece of wet & dry paper and solvol to remove it, but these were completely polished alloy.

I don't know the person that crashed, but hopefully he doesn't mind my posting the excerpt from a thread on MLOC. Sep 24th MLOC

Absolute bargain Adam, and I know ho much they cost me a couple of years ago. -
Well, you know that if you tamper with your engine, no matter how or what, you loose your warranty.... And it is not up to them to prove it did come from that modification, it's up to him to prove it didn't. The only pieces "allowed" are Nismo S tune, and only if installed by an authorized dealer. Yea right..... Who's got the biggest lawyers you mean. How on earth can a lighter pulley cause an engine to blowup. This guy did get an independent engineers report saying it was casued by con rod failure I seem to remember. This was just a case of Nissan wrigglin out of paying a warranty claim 'cause they don't care about their customers. A decent manufacturer would have replaced the engine. They'd rather fight in court 'cause it's cheaper. NMGB are pants.....

Agreed. My recommendation is to bypass the pain and write to the MD of NMGB straight away. Failing that, we all get together and blockade NMGB until they submit!! Yep, there is that one, and he posted on here recently when he was selling it IIRC. He put a new engine in it out of his own pocket..... That stinks. He won't be buying another Nissan then. I've heard so many cases of Nissan not standing by their warranty. It's one thing having reliability issues, but surely a lot worse if the try and wriigle out of it. Performance cars need good warranty IMHO. We had a gearbox issue on our Jeep, (which we've now sold), and on the second occasion of a breakdown the dealer fitted a new gearbox under warranty with no questions asked. Got the car back within a week. Where did my post go?! Anyway..... Agreed. I would recommend bypassing the pain and writing directly to the MD of NMGB. Failing that, we all get together and blockade NMGB until they give in! Didn't he try all that?

Mines a "Yota" engine. Lotus switched to these a while back now. Not sure on year. The K series engine is a cracking engine too. There was some reported head gasket failures, but this is easily fixed and doesn't normally do any damage. Being a car that often gets driven hard, e.g. corning, acelerating etc. it actually fairs pretty well. BTW, there was a guy in the 350Z OC who had a Zed engine in a GT4 blow up at about 20k miles. Nissan were refusing to replace it under warranty blaming the light weight UR pulleys he'd fitted, even though the rest of the engine was standard. What a load of B'locks. How could these cause a piston to go through the block. This went on for months and I'm still not sure whether he eventually got them to cough up with a new engine.
-
Buy a Lotus. Mine weighs nearly half a Zed....
-
Wow. That would make a good basis for a street drag car..

Nice one Rish. Lokks like you got that 911 you alwayys wanted and either a Aero kitted one or even an GT3.. Now let's see some proper pictures.

Isn't it just UK Gold renamed?

Mclaren could have put him on gardening leave for a year, but that wouldn't have gone down too well with the FIA, Bernie & Max Etc. Maybe they have done a deal to reduce the fine by releasing him? He would be nice to see how he does in a slower car.
-
Surely McLaren have stung him for a decent termination fee? Maybe they are just keep this under wraps as it ain't good for either party. It will be funny if he ends up with Red Bull.... I read that it would cover there fine I read this statement as no penalty

Joke....sorry forgot the Weight is important if you are going for it on a test track, aka Rod Tarry at Bruntingthorpe, otherwise you are probably right. I would have thought the rolling resistance would be greater the heavier the car though, e.g. tyre size etc.

I agree about the speed claims, but I am pretty sure there is no brick wall either - I don't recall seeing 180mph in the aerodynamics equations when I used to mess about with them Top speed is a tradeoff between slippery shape to reduce drag and enough down force to stop you taking off. For the cossie, the limit is probably the downforce generated by the spoiler driving the car down into the tarmac at the speeds mentioned - take the spoiler off though and ... well you take off More power = more speed if you get the aerodynamics balanced I'm a simple soul though and since drag goes with speed squared and power ~ 1/speed, I always reckon speed increases with power cubed. So if a car generating 100BHp can do 115mph, then - one generating 300BHp (Z) can do 115 * (300/100)^(1/3) or 165mph - one generating 400BHp (FI Z or Monaro) can theoretically do 182mph - one generating 631BHp (Murcie) can theoretically do 212mph (stats say 211 ) - one generating 1000 BHp (Veyron) can theoretically do 247mph (you can read elsewhere about the issues bugatti had reaching the theoretical max speed and it needs to be in a certain aero configuration to achieve it) By the above, you need in excess of 530BHp to be able to achieve 200mph I'm sure people can find examples to completely disprove the above, but it does work for most cases OK smart ar5e, figure of speach. By brick wall I mean it ain't linear, i.e. you need progressively more power for each extra 5 mph as you have described, although I'm sure it's much more complicated than that and varies for every car. Rod descibed 180 mph as a "brick wall" for his car. Clearly every car is different, it's power to weight ratio that matters, (the Monaro will be heavy), gearing comes into it, i.e. where on the power curve are you, aerodynamics are extremly important, weather conditions.....etc. etc.
-
There you go. Rod Tarry is the name.. http://www.apra70.dsl.pipex.com/home/news7.htm

200 mph....now way with the weight of the Monaro and that power, (haven't read it all but 405 bhp). No dis-respect to the Monaro...great car. At 170 mph I would have said he was not far off his top speed. With a long run he may be able to get to 180 mph. Callaway are indeed a Corvette tuning comany, but 405 bhp. I suspect it has a few Callaway bits, as a full Calaway tuned engine would be way more than that. Probably more like 600 bhp. There's a brick wall around 175-180 mph where aerodynamics kick in big time. For each 5 mph your need a stack of bhp. I've spoken to a guy who has the record in a Cossie. He broke the 200 mph mark at Bruntingthorpe in a saph Cossie. This was all covered by Performance Ford Magazine. His car's engine was secret, but it is rumoured to have 650-700 bhp with another 100+ bhp via NOS. He's nearly 60 years old BTW and a lovely guy. His previous record was about 180 mph. That was with 550 bhp and the 180 mph was at the time one of the best properly recorded top speeds. Also don't forget Cossies only weigh about 1200 kg's. Saying all that it does seem like a cracking car for the money. Someone buy it quick.

I do agree, bike insurance seems to vary alot. Carole Nash was about £200 more than Bennetts.
