HI Z HEADS!!!!

if we're going to play at definitions here's one you should read carefully: ricer 3839 up, 349 down (Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt) A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to): - Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder - Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747 - Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool - Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself - Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire - Clear tail lights and corner signals - A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine) - Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case. The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. These ricers are not confined to any one ethnic group or color, however different ethnic groups are known for certain styles. Honda Civics with big spoilers and 4" exhaust tips are considered to be ricers. -

this has given me an idea, maybe we should start a thread called members pictures. i always find i speak to all these people but have no idea who i'm talking too, i go to a meet and it takes ages to realsie that the person in front of you is actually the same person you just flamed the night before on the forum if we do it i think it should be just 1 post per member, i.e. there photo and no comments by other people other wise its unfair if you post a pic and some one pipes up saying how they look like they were set alight and hit in the face by a shovel to put the flames out. -
Nissan plant to shed 1,200 jobs
rtbiscuit replied to MITZ@CougarStore's topic in Off Topic Discussion
the government are estimating fairly low un employment for this recession, but economists who don't work for the governemt are predicting highest unemployment in history, with well over 3 million that are going to be on the dole. its going to get alot worse, i have friends who work in recruitment, they have said that alot of employers have cut the hourly rate for temps, and the tables have turned. it used to be difficult to fill all the positions, but now the work has all dried up, very few people are being given any temp work, as employers are cutting back. and there are only so many jobs at supermarkets. -
Just under the fuel flap/bonnet pop buttons by your right knee. @Rich: Could do, might give it a shot at the weekend and see what happens. I've had my brother's 07 on it though, and I don't remember it being an odd number but then I wasn't particularly looking for it at the time. did his have any kind of engine mod fitted at the time?

any pics of the tornneau cover and thick carpet in place? never seen one before, i might be interested in them.

i liked maggie, but i feel a move like that would upset most of scotland. they have very bad memories of the iron lady. i worry about pricing and over paying etc, we just bought a house back in july, got it £35,000 less than its original pricing when they built it 6 months before that. i would hate to think that we would still be in negative equity in 15 years time. we have a flat as well, and if prices never recover, well we're kinda screwed. both me and my partner could end up loosing 10's of thousands even 15-20 years in the future if prices don't return. but my honest feeling is that the market will return to ins original level. you only have to wait about 5-10 years after a reccession has finished and people (bankers) forget about the last one and soon return to there greedy ways. i do think that this time round there is going to be more control, as the goveernment have a large stake now in the uk banking system. (i suppose we all do now as its our tax money) i heard it phrased recently that we are entering a new era of capitalisim, a more refined version.

i've just fitted a dump valve to my car, and it comes with a standardised boost controller. i have taken a flexi pipe from the inlet manifold and run it into the cabin under the drivers seat. now everytime i fart it gets compressed and forced into the engine, i had it dyno'ed at just aroud 450 bhp. i'm calling it the "NISBLOW" the dump valve is very important in the "Turblow" because if you accidently dump will blowing it lets it out instead of putting it into the engine. going to set up a production soon if anyone wants one sign up below.

no lights have come back on, still have an all clear. touch wood. i'm hoping it was just the cold that threw it out. and Dan do you reckon it might be worth putting yours on the OBDII to see if it reads the same throttle usage of around 90% (or anyone else with an OBDII) might be woth having a comparison
-
(not sure if i put in the right place, but can be moved and this bracket section deleted) the other day my car threw up a CEL, finally got round to getting it checked out at Ekona's with his OBDII reader. it turned out to be p2135 (ekona is that the right one as i had to try and remember the number, but it was the throttle posistion sensor) we checked it out on the forums and did both a throttle posistion reset, which seemed to do the job, and we also did an ECU reset just to make sure. we're hoping it was just a gliche error, never to return, but if it does, our guess is the throttle body will need changing. not a huge problem, but hopefully one i won't need to deal with for a while. what was more interesting was while we had it connected up to the OBDII we tried to see if the car was using full throttle when you had the pedal to the metal. when we checked it the car ws only using 89% throttle. we are guessing that because the pop charger is fitted the car is cancelling this out. but we tried the same thing again after an ECU rest and there was still no change. is this normal, does that sound right, or does it sound like the butterfly valve is starting to stick a little. problem is solved (re: CEL) but i thought you lot might find it interesting.
-
i went round ekona's the other night, and i think he had deliberalty put water on his door step to stop cold callers. that step was so highly polished you needed ice skates to stand up on it. but we did find out, that if you squirt the window de-icer stuff on it, it clears up almost instantly.

if you have a dishwasher, you will possibly also have dishwasher salt, just throw some of that down ,and it will work just like gritting salt from the gritters. any salt, even household table salt will do the same.

the title just reminded me of one of my GCSE students in technology. he went on work experience for 2 weeks but only last 2 days, he was working in a boat yard, and on the second day he was given some wire cutters and told to go and remove the wiring from a boat they were refurbing. they didn't see him for about 5 hours so when some one went to check on him they found to there horror that he had slowly been cutting the front end off of the fibre glass boat hull and that he had nearly managed to go all the way round. i think he caused something like £3000 worth of damage. i cried when my colleague told me about it i was laughing so much. he is a lovely lad, but missing the majority of the sandwiches from his own little picnic of a head.

my dad worked out, that if you took all the tax he had to pay and he theortically worked for a yeatr, but paid all his tax off first (working for the tax man) starting from january he wouldn't be working for himself until july. so if you add all your tax up my dad losses half his salary. their is no incentive to do well in life, if you work hard and succeed, al that happens is you get more taken away. effort wise you might as well work in tescos and stack shelves. after tax you probably still earn the same anyway i have contemplated several times about emigrating, but i can't seeing it being any better else where.
-
takes the **** doesn't it. i wouldn't mind my salary if i actually got to keep most of it. but i permanently feel like i have to climb the work ladder to push the pay up. but it always seems pointless, the more you earn the more you pay in tax. it wouldn't be so bad if we got value for money. but we have a road network that is to small for the volume of traffic and is poorly maintained, we have a health service that can't cope and doesn't have enough doctors or nurses, a police force with not enough coppers, and public transport network that is extortianatly over priced. so where the sodding hell is all my money going

nothing wrong with discussing politics, it can make for good discussion. my brother was a politics student, and when ever he used to come home he used to love starting politcal debates in my parents house, and then playing devils advocate to stir it up more. it made for some interesting chats

i cry a little every month when i see a thrid of my salary go off to the tax man

You can, it's just you'll get a different feel in different conditions. Wet weather tends to magnify performance and if one or other is much better / worse in the wet, it can make handling a nightmare. 4x4's it's often even more important as the diffs and sensors need the same tyres so if distributes grip properly. Side to side is a definite no no though! I've run different tyres front and rear for 12 months with no problems whatsoever, surely with any tyres they will feel different front to rear as you are running a different contact area (tyre sizes) and the power is going through the rear have you run different sizes and had problems, is that why you posted that ? to the OP , given the chioce out of those tyres..........falken i was always brought up never to mix across the axle regardless of car and power out put. any decent tyre fitter will tell you the same. different tyres have different rubber compounds, different treds, and respond differently in wet conditions, it is as simple as just tyre surface and contact area. tyres brands wear differently and react differnetly. you could possibly drive for years on mixed tyres and never have a problem, but you increase the likely hood of it happening. you only have to hit water on a corner at the wrong speed and angle, and instead of the back sliding out prgressively it will just snap instead. and before you know it your strapped into a 300bhp hedge finding missle. the last car i had and the forum i belonged to this used to be a regualr topic of conversation. and of the 2 -3 years i was on it for there were several people who commented on running mixed tyres with no problems, and then during the winter, they would come on sheepishly and post about how their car had suddenly diverted from the main road to the hedge. (it was even more important on the mk3 mr2 because it was mid engined. and had a nasty habit of snatching in bad weather. heard several reports of people spinning out when traveling down a straight piece of dual carriage way in the wet.)

Stock Exhaust - Middle section de-silencered with video
rtbiscuit replied to scottsoulby's topic in Exhaust
like what was said above, your talking very tiny amounts, an experienced butt dyno might notice it a tiny amount, but your average joe blogs possibly wouldn't, but then you have the added facter of extra noise which would possibly add back on the little bit you lost but in physcological terms. to be honest. big bore exhausts only have a dmamging impact on cars performance when its something like a 1.2 fiesta with 2 5 inch cans slapped on the back then it becomes like blowing a hairdryer down the channel tunnel. and serious losses. if your happy and you haven't noticed any real changes, then sit back and enjoy it. i added a pop chager to mine, i know full well that my car is now not performing as well as if it was standard, but the loss is so minimal. and the gain in noise far out ways the loss. its a day to day car, things might be different if you were trying to build a track monster. -
the next job she'll be doing for iceland will be working the tills for £6 an hour. its people like her that miss lead our kids. years ago students used to want to be doctors, nurses, pilots, or scientists. now they just want to be famous. but if you ask them what for, they say, just being famous. i wouldn't mind if some of the kids said being a sing, or an actor, as its got a purpose. but its talentless cancers like this that encourage doing bugger all and getting paid for it.

totally agree, am not a huge fan of the tories, they are not much different from the labour. but as far as i'm concerned they are the only party able to oust labour. not only that but we are governed by a party that was only voted in by 15% of the population, because only 60% of the uk voted and of that 60% only 25%-30% voted labour (i think it was around that). i would never trust a politician as far as i could through one regardless of what team he batted for. politicians regardless of parties only look at short term gains, as that is what keeps them in power. its not a democracy, you just get to change the face of the money on top of the organ grinder. same tune different face. non of them look at long term planning as non of them ever stay in longer than 3 terms. and elections come round every 4-5 years. try explaining to voters that although this is a great idea, and we're paying loads now we will all benefit in about 10 years. (its not a vote winner)

sadly a global issue want do a huge amount, the banks lost lots of money, and although govenrments around the globe are bailing them out, it is at the end of the day just a loan. which they have to pay back. so most banks are being cautious in their lending, not giving away much. and this will continue until they get themselves settled and pay off some of the loans. the down turn has also knocke don to jobs as well. which affects money borrowing, lending etc. and the government coffers are hit harder because less of us will be supporting more people who aren't working. i always thinnk the easiest way to look at it is like a computer crashing. everything has stalled, frozen, and it takes time for the whole lot to reboot. and nothing governments can do that will speed the process up.

firstly if your replacing just 2 tires, i would actually suggest doing all 4 especially if your going to have different brands front and rear. secondly for cheap tires go to Camskills on the net, they are pretty good on price. thirdly, if price is an issue, falkens tend to be the best in the bunch for budget performance tires. toyos are a little more but also well regarded on here. to be honest searcing will pull most info that you will need and the rest is personal preference. everyone has there preffered brands. and if you have lots of cash to splash the best tires apparently are the michelin pilot sports
