  1. had that with the jag, was just a case of replacing the rubber seals (gaskets) on the rocker covers.
  2. DMS (Dixon Motor Sport) up near brands hatch not far from the dartford crossing
  3. if it was just burning oil i'd probably reccomend a thicker oil. as engines get older you should change the oil density if it starts to burn stuff off. could just be a gasket issue or could be bore wear. personally i'd get it compression tested first, as this will identify if the engine is losing compression and if so which cylinder or how many cylinders are affected. this is a pretty inexpensive test. if it comes back as all good. then i;d be replacing the gaskets. which shouldn;t be as major as you think. or as expensive. early signs of gasket wear may show themselves as oil in the rad. if it is you'll have a creamy mayonaise style gunk in and around the rad cap. this is a nice easy check and is free.
  4. tracker makes insurance more expensive. when i've played around with adding it. apparently its becuase insurance companies know its more likely to be found but would possibly need lots spending on it depending on damage. so they weight the insurance against trackers. how true that is i don't know, but from experimenting it doesn;t make it cheaper. also if it was a 50k car i'd be more inclined. but the zeds a sub 10k car now and although its a great car its not really been a major crime target, unlike things like BMWs are at the moment.
  5. no there is a BCM also under there.
  6. sounds like it might be shorting out somewhere. have you changed anything recently, or removed the dash etc before this problem started. you can usually atribute a lot of issues to the last thing you played with before it broke.
  7. my wife has the 2.2 turbo sooter (i think) and it doesn;t hang about. only down side is all the torque is low down, so by 4.5k to 5k its out of puff. and up a gear.
  8. i too agree with you that a 4x4 should be for off road use. and seeing chelsea tractors with mum and 1 child in taking up sapce when i come in to work (i'm a teacher) does my nut in. but since my wife has got one, i do now see the logic. although i mock her for tractor driving.
  9. if your starting a family the advantage of a 4x4/suv is not the off road ability its the fact that the vehicle sits so much higher, which gives several advantages. main one being putting baby in baby seat. the height is much more comfortable. the boot is also higher which makes getting shopping and baby stuffin in and out much easier. plus the space side of things. if you have to be in the back with baby there is tons of room. my wife has the volvo XC60 and i have noticed when we look after her niece and nephew life has been alot easier than when she had her 4 door golf. just on the door side alone.
  10. we're going from near woodbridge on the suffolk coast. 356 miles on the 303 or 372 mile son the m4 route.
  11. my old work mate had the standard XJ soooooooooooooooooo much space inside. and very comfortable. be interested to see the engine on that converted XJR as i think its the same engine as in my XKR and i thought the SC was in the way of any kind of conversion. be interested to know more about who did what to that XJR.
  12. the VW range of V8's aren't bad, you have the phaeton, but there is also the toureg. convert it over to LPG and your laughing.
  13. Mmm that's lovely, full Audi history too I've been taking a sneaky peek at Phaeton's too - I like the rarity aspect but not sure I really want something that looks like a pumped Passat one of the things me and my dad were looking at was buying a V8 and then convert to LPG. suddenly a car that did high teens MPG is equivilent to nearly 40 MPG but with V8 performance. can't do it on the XKR as the SC is in the way of where the Gas injectors would go. but future family cars i've been toying with are things like bmw 6 and 7 series. audi A8's. or xf's or XJ's or even early 2000 M5's
  14. We tend to travel early on the A30 / A303, when it's empty it's a quick and easy route been explaining this to my wife that we need to leave at 5 am so we hit the 303 nice and early.
