  1. Love both cars, if its just me and Lucy, it would be the Cayman, if we are lucky and have kids it would be the M3. Just as a left field choice have you looked at the x150 jag, that's the new shape Xkr. Easily in budget, its not as much of a barge as the old x100 shape like mine. Plus the supercharged 5 litre v8 is very good. Loads of creature comforts. Even nicer place comfort wise than the Cayman. And you can get 1 mate in sideways along the back. The convertible version is even more fun.
  2. Theoretically the turbo does better mpg, but it depends on how you drive it on a commute. If you stay off the boost it should be pretty frugal like a normal 1.8. But if you drive hard it will drink lots if the turbo is always spoiling up. You might get slightly better out of the 3.2 if you drive hard but there won't be a lot in it. I would have thought the 3.2 would be about the same as the 350z
  3. you want the lowest unsprung mass that clears the brakes. get a set of scales out and go weight those wheels then come back and ask us. general consensus on here is 18"s for go; 19"s for show. but they have to be leightweight to really make a difference, and even then i don;t thnik most on here would notice the differewnce between the 2.
  4. we have tried lots, and i'm sorry but their does seem to be a high amount of ineptness in the industry. to the point we do our own letting now. every profession has its tar brush according to the tar brush; as a teacher i'm theortically a kiddy touching retard who couldn't make it in the real world. the old those who can't; teach; those that can't teach; teach PE like with anything i'm sure if your wife is good, she will always be busy and well regarded by the people who come to see her.
  5. get rid of the chav pipes and put some HFC's in if you want thicjer oil try 10w30 or 10w40 could possibly go thicker ask jez at horsham what he changed too
  6. was going to say thats Attakz old car, but he's already been on hugh knows the car well so can give you a run down if you need it
  7. my posts seem to keep disappearing *EDIT* no they don't my brain stopped working
  8. but if you add all those extras on the zed it doesn;t make it as accurate comparison price wise to the gt86 as that lot would put the zed over the 30k mark. and the porsche they used was half that at 15k. i'd save the 15k over the zed and go 2nd hand cayman S with all the trimmings. you could put 5k in the bank for repair work and still save 10k on the zed.
  9. In what way? cats tend to catch/filter alot of stuff coming out that you wouldn't normally see, you sometimes get small bits of smoke whith new exhaust parts as they bed in and coke up. depends on how much smoke he is getting. if its continous and heavy then yes i'd put it down to oil burning. but if it was the odd whisp i'd say its exhaust parts bedding in.
  10. that would be me then it wasn't that i didn't like the zed, its the fact that its looks wrote checks its body couldn't cash. i suppose my expectations were to high. but i could never get the kind of sound out of it i'd hoped for. its not the best sounding V6 in the world but exhausts help. its one of the few cars the seating position did my hips in. if i took my preconceptions out of the picture the zed is a nice car, but i'd rather have the porsche. if i had to down grade form the porsche and wanted to maintain the pure driver focus i'd be looking at the M3's. if your wanting a fun weekend car i'd be looking at the TVR's. great sounding V8's stunning lookers and rare. the one thing the zed did give me was some great new friends. and a forum that i haven't left since changing cars twice since the zed.
  11. i agree, a compression test would rule the engine out.
  12. what are they like to drive? if your new to RWD they are a good starter car, very safe and very balanced and as they are heavy they feel planted Is the suspension harsh? not really, stock suspension is pretty user friendly, its a GT car after all so made for long distance cruising in comfort Whats the power delivery like? very linear, which makes it feel slow, untill you look at the speedo and realise how fast your going although it has 270 bhp newer models around the 300 mark it won't have the kick that turbo cars have, but has plenty of grunt for in gear acceleration and overtaking. How do you find running costs? petrol is £1.33 a litre it takes 80 litres to fill up, on normal driving a tank will do around 300 miles perosnally i don't think thats bad for a V6 but its no prius. it will use tyres if you drive it hard, 18" for a price idea 245/45/18 and 225/45/18. 3 services p1, p2, p3 and it alternates around them p1 is about £150-£200 p2 and 3 are around the £300 mark. Any major services i need to be aware of? no timeing belts to worry about all chain driven Any thing i really need to look out for when buying? clicky rear axle, burning oil, bad gearboxes I am trying to find one quite low mileage - something between 30k to 50k... autotrader Any advise/help would be great guys. go drive one, everyone has different tastes in cars, go see if you like it nad if its the car for you. just out of interest what are you coming from? car wise?
  13. if it was me i'd be going down to AME near silverstone, great perofrmance garage superb service, these guys know engines and they know the zed, they are doing keysers engine, they work on husky's GT4 and i've never heard complaints about them.
  14. plastic ones are probably the best as they flex more with impact. but you'll find alot of even the name brand aftermarket bumpers are fibreglass. i think the main thing is to go for quality. rule of thumb, what you save in money on the bumper you end up spending in the bodyshop. also cheap bumpers tend to have a crap gappy fit.
  15. top up with oil, think it needs about 2/3 of a litre maybe half a litre to take it from the bottom mark to the top mark. the dipstick is not the easiest to read. once you have a top mark reading, take a mileage reading and then check to see how much it uses over how many miles. i.e. is it using 1 litre every 500miles 1000 miles 2000 miles. preferably get it to a good independent to do the checks.
