  1. theortically a larger rim adds a smaller profile tyre, and a wider foot print. this in return gives more tyre contact to the road and more grip, and with a lower profile less tyre roll and more accurate feedback from the wheel. down sides include an increased unsprung weight which can have a larger impact on performance than added sprung weight. but we're talking minimal amounts. if you change up to decent light weight forged wheels or split rims it can be a decent upgrade. with minimal impact on unsprung weight. things like volks or BBS are a good choice due to style and weight. enkei offer a good selection of lightweight cast wheels. if you bung on larger cast copies or cheap wheel then the benefit is purely cosmetic with some grip enhancement. to put into context (sorry for using jaguar as a model) the X100 XKR had an optional upgrade to 20" BBS wheels from the stock 18" (they also did a 19" as well, but most have the 20") but cars that had them fitted were also fitted with a larger oil sump in order to add more oil to the engine for increased G in cornering i.e so the oil didn't all slop to one side and leave the engine momenteraily out of oil. so cars with 20" have an 8 litre oil capacity where as cars that came with 18" have 6 litre capacity.
  2. Keep the cage if you can, its not easy to get them on their roof, but if it is managed they do have a habit of crumpling like an empty fag packet. roll cage in makes minis 100% safer. great find though will save you so much ball ache with the rust. easy thing to do with them if rust is bad is take shell of and strip car right back to chassis any way, so you would have had to have taken it all apart any way. this will give you a brillinat base for the car and something that will last for a long time. refurb the engine as stock is a good idea, keeps the insurance low to start with but then you will have a great car and engine that she can mod in the future. as she earns her no claims etc and gets experience she can start to mod up the car. and you'll have given her the perfect platform to start on. a great thing for future father daughter projects. and i too am looking forward to followingf this more than zed stuff i love interesting car projects
  3. in the process of sorting out new carbon dipped interior, just sourcing parts at the mo. but when done you can exchange your old stuff for new shiney interior parts. can also do it a bit at a time if you want to spread the purchase.
  4. loo roll centres and gaffa tape would do a better job than crap speed. in fact you'd probably have more reliabilty if they were made of chocolate
  5. could things be sticking, i.e when you pull on the handle things are being left in place? would spraying a liberal amount of wd40 on the mechanisms help free it all up. or some good 3 in 1 oil.
  6. as long as the build quality is better than japseed you should be alright, and the fact your self fitting makes a big difference. for people paying others to fit them its about a 10-12 hour labour job. so most people really don;t want to have to do it again to either replace them or fix them.
  7. ignore that, just realsied you've got into the car, but can't open the door to take the card off. think you might be a bit fubar on this
  8. can you get in through the boot?
  9. i keep looking at cerberas love the older classic porkers, one of my neighbours has i think an 89 t bar one, its loverly. you've got the MX5 so i would say not to bother looking at S2000, but it looks like something driver focussed could be on the cards.
  10. http://www.photoshoptroll.com/mustache/ this one had me laughing
  11. sounds like a right control freak glad to see you got out alive
  12. if you liked it before there's no reason to not go back, when it comes to cars i'm like a kid in the sweet shop, i want to try everything, i wouldn't stick with a sherbert dibdab everytime i'd want to try them all. and for that reason i don;t tend to get the same car twice, only had 1 manufacturer i've bought twice and that was honda. while we're on food analogies, when ever i order takeaway i always have the same dish so i suppse there is comofrt in what you know, and no worry of disappointment if you got something and then found you didn;t like it. zeds not a bad car, its a great all rounder keep it on your list i'm intrigued to know what else is on your list and also where you looking at moving too? you coming to join me in suffolk?
  13. i think when i upgraded a few months ago, the S3 was £80 and the oneX was free. i preferred the S3, but couldn't see the point of paying for it. if people really want the phone i'd say wiat a few months once the rush has died down they usually drop on contract price.
  14. i voted for them as i thought they were our best bet at getting out of the mess, and i still stand by it. I've not grumbled at my pay freeze or my pension cuts, i don't like it but i understand why it needs to be done. i think road tax should be scrapped, and toll roads brought in. Green taxes should not be payed on the size of an engine but the amount they produce due to mileage. there is a lot to be said for dictatorships, when the party doesn;t change for 20 years or more it gives you the time to do those long term plans. not all dictators were bad, castro did a lot of good as did tito.
  15. its the same with women, never go back, you got shot for a reason, and the same reasons will still be there.
  16. i have an exchange pair, they get dipped, sent up to the customer, and they send down their old ones in exchange. currently sorting 1 set out for another customer who's car is in the bodyshop and doing my exchange set as well. just currently going through some supply changes so things have been a little delayed recently.
  17. I blame the last party for the debt we're now paying off, and their fake green policy which was just away to cream more taxes. To be fair I don't like any of the politicians. Everything they do is for the short term as they are always promoting for the next term in office. They all just tamper with things than actually fix them.
  18. same here all signed up etc and i send letters to my MP, even get replies from him, but you know when you ready it that its the party line responce.
  19. and what are we supposed to do? no one has a decent plan to fight back, thing is we all need fuel and we're a slave to it, and the fuel companies and government know this. and since the last fuel strikes they've changed the law to stop that happening again.
  20. I know android has its limitations, i really wanted to be on win mob by now, but its just not there yet. i liked the fact that apple was very user friendly, thats what makes them so good. I'm no fanboy, i'll float to what ever i think is best for me at the time, no brand loyalty from me; saying that i'm on my 2nd HTC phone now
