  1. Great story so far, hope it ends happily ever after....... I'm also going to check to see if I sent my letter to Santa for the same sort of "wish"..........
  2. I've had a few issues with DPD recently. They didn't pay attention to the "special delivery" notes and decided to head back to depot with my parcel. I phoned the company up to moan and they got in touch with DPD and they arranged a next day delivery on the Saturday. I also sent a parcel to Wales, a big parcel mind you, of which instead of going to Wales ended up in Manchester and was delayed 2 days because of this. As above, all delivery companies have their issues.
  3. Is that the CD0009 gearbox - I remember looking into these when I owned a Zed, apparently these had less issues with the grinding gears and much less synchro mesh issues of the older boxes which are quite clunky (in my opinion, some people like clunky boxes) Yup CD0009 - Mine has been faultless, even on 110k miles. No difficult gears, happy with quick shifting. Hence it will be up for sale as it's in useable condition without issue. If there were any issues with it I'd either offload it for peanuts or dump it.
  4. I really do hope so because Gloss black will show up imperfections. The right hand side which I've had to build up in layers of filler could show up some of my rookie work. Although I've already said to myself that if its not right to sand back and fix anything which looks less than perfect. I've also tested the adapter and it's working, as that would be a real pain to take it out if it didn't work. So the technical parts are working Thing is I can't work on it now till Christmas Day. The family won't see me thereafter
  5. After Mark and his idea to ensure a perfect finish I set about purchasing the 30 pin to lightning adapter. Which as per the shots previous wasn't too hard to achieve. Although it was still a bit of a fiddle to get it in. To the point, I've had to fill and widen just slightly the right hand side by a mm or two. This was due to the metal housing inside just sticking up proud of the dash. So I put some protection for the electronics which was basically a section of latex glove for when I filled the area. So today was fill, sand and shape. All that's left to do now is final sand to a super smooth finish with 1,200 grit. Then it's on to finishing the edges to make them look oem. All is going very well, although I'm impatient and want to put the top coat on now just to see how it would look. Enjoy the pics, and between Christmas and New Year I'll be hoping to complete. Also don't pay attention to the "rough" finish for where the ipad will go. This will be covered with suede for a clean look.
  6. Now you're just being silly lol. You could split screen, half for driving and the other side for watching TV ha ha. Okay just uploading some pics of the updates from today......
  7. It's given me an idea to blank out my windscreen with a 48" LCD screen I'll have vision in HD
  8. I could be very tempted as I missed Wales this year, and I LOVE the Elan Valley. It would be nice just to shrine my VQ at the Elan. Let me know when you have a firm weekend.
  9. I was in the Alfa but saw you returning to your car
  10. The car won't purely be all guns and blazing....... I wan't some civil lifestyle in the Zed, and the Audio completes that side of things. Otherwise if I had my way, half naked dancing girls would be on order. Edit - sorry fully naked
  11. Have to agree, all that hard work and fabrication is spoils by a cable just poking out the side for me.... it's all in the detail To be fair you wouldn't have seen it as it would have been moulded into a fabricated cover and hidden behind the knee cushion. But as the 90 degree adapter is now fixing this issue all will be nice
  12. If you hook up to the "Soundman" page on YouTube, actually it's not called a page is it, feed? I dunno...... anyway, watch his videos, and specifically anything ipad related, You'll get a huge amount of tips. He also has a forum, join up, loads of resource on there also.
  13. I doubt damage will be caused, as technology has moved on somewhat. Remember the days of putting a speaker next to the TV and the magnet would interfere with the picture. I would suggest getting 4 or 5 small square magnets, reasonable magnetic strength, and this should fix the issue.
  14. I'm just wondering if stronger magnets might be needed? I know the iphone 6+ is made of butter, but there's got to be something in there made of metal?
  15. Magnets, they're not fixed to the back of the pad tray yet only as I want to bed down all the major work first. Basically glue a strip of magnets at the back and it won't move an inch. Glad this is providing inspiration to others. Okay so it takes a lot of work and you could pay someone a heap of cash, but this is so much more rewarding. Any magnets in particular? I thought of that by buying an ipad mini case with the magnetic strip for the front cover in the hope of using that, but it doesnt attract to the phone, maybe iphones are made of different material? You could have a valid point there. If you are going to include the lightning cable into your build, then yes that would partly secure, but you would need something else. I'll see what I can find for you.
  16. It's expensive but would give you full functionality of your OEM head unit AND improve the sound quality. But wouldn't fix the sound dropping out. If you get an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth, get a "StreamBlue" from America then your ipad will charge and connect to your head unit. This below is the Audison Bit One (which I'm also running)

  18. You've hit the nail right on the head there. The price of his kits are stupendously expensive. Which is why I ventured out on this rocky road, never done any of this sort of work ever before, and I'm loving it ;
  19. iPad forget it, but iPad mini is doable. I would have put it where the cubby/sat nav goes, but I want to retain my oem satnav for emergencies, you just never know. I'm anycase if I was to do that it would look daft keeping my stereo. There's a few ways for connectivity, bluetooth, wifi, or as I'm doing direct digital. Doing the digital is more cash but I really want the best results. Also I love tech so it adds to the fun. I'm hoping over the weekend to finish the adapter. Get on with the shaping around where the ipad will sit. Then ensure all visible panels are smooth and imperfection free. Prime and hopefully get the top coat applied.
  20. Thanks Mark, you've done me proud. Herewith my new 90 degree 30 pin to lightning butchered by yours truly. Wasn't that hard to do. Next is to take out the adapter currently in the dash, which will be fun when superglued
  21. I have a private road....... I drive as fast as I can, for all of 50 metres, which is really frustrating.
  22. I hope it was an exciting PM after all that! Customer service PM
