Differences between Auto and Manual ECUS and Looms
chriswills replied to chriswills's topic in 350Z Technical
Yeah i have tried that but nissan uk have no interest as they dont carry the right diagrams, nissan jp wont send any across for me. there are only a handfull of japanese elgrand running forced induction most use the elgrand ecu but in japan its easyily upgradebale. there is a chap in oz who has transplated the whole 350 engine and manual box into one but hes not really up for sharing info. -

im hoping next year to go forced induction, whether that is twin turbo or hks supercharger im not sure yet, it would be nice to just release a few more ponies with the 350 inlet/ exhaust and ecu. would also gain obd diagnostics and easy remaps, my other thought was stand alone like haltech but that is a large cost that t the moment i want to avoid. -

yeah but then pretty much all nissan ecu plugs match, a 1.5 almera will use the same plugs as a fuga lol, i cant find the pinout for an elgrand ecu, i have a 350 ecu striped at the moment, waiting for my elgrand to come back later today so i can lug it in and see what happens, the ecu i have is from a manual, which makes me think it wont work with the auto box if at all, i was told the vvt on the elgrand works differently to the 350 one but after a quick search they seem to use very similar componants, i did have a quick chat one of the tuners and they said that it would prob be easiest to swap loom and ecu and run it on the zed ecu, there is very minimal stuff that is canbus on the early elgrand and 350. should be an easy enough swap. but i need the looms to start with i think. i dont want to keep buying ecus etc if there is no need and it can be sorted using a manual ecu etc. -

thats what i thought too, the Elgrand cant be read by anyone other than Abbey in the uk at the moment an they can only map it if they have the right rom, and thats very unlikely as they only have one rom, a normal odb flash wont work as the Elgrand uses a very odd protocol. I found a service bulletin saying that the nats system didnt need to be re initialized if the ecu was changed on 2003 on 350z and murano, it didnt mention the elgrand, but does say that the key is coded to the bcm and not the ecm. i dont know myself just what im reading, i did get told that the ecu could be swapped between cars with just an ecu reset too. is this not right? -

from what i can see/read up, the key is coded to the bcm so im guessing in theory that shouldnt matter, as the key will still be with the corrct bcm. could be totally wrong there though, what i do know is that the Elgrand isnt readable with a normal OBD scan tool and im told it uses a specific protocol for that car, im sure there has to be a way of running the 350 ecu and loom though. -

Also, are the ecus able to be swapped from car to car, not manual to auto but an ecu from one manual straight into another without any issues? are transponders and keys needed too? -
Hi all, i have an elgrand which i am hoping to put some 350 bits on, one of which is the ecu, does anyone know the difference between the manual and auto ecu? I assume the loom is different too, my elgrand is auto, im hoping to get the 350 ecu fitted along with inlet manifold, im told the cam timing solenoid is different and the way the cams are adjusted is different too but the solenoid looks very similar and the plugs are the same. Any one in wiltshire able to let me loook over their 350 for some guidance.? thanks

i assume this is the one that was on ebay for 275? almost bought it myself, i have an elgrand, id like to try and fit the inlet and exhaust manis to it.

If your selling the inlet setup and both exhaust manifolds id be interested.

have sent you a pm Mark.

Hi i am after a 350z ecu with the NATS system removed, i want it for my elgrand project, if it makes any difference i want it for an auto non rev up. thanks in advance. Also after a complete inlet setup for the same engine, manifold/plenum etc. thanks again

have just sent him a message to see if he has a progress thread or similar online, he is in oz. -

there are quite a few elgrands in japan that are charged so it must be doable, hks make a few kits for them ranging from 350-500 horses. just getting them is hard work. im going to get a 350 ecu and plug it in, see if i can access it wih my laptop then have a play with wiring, it cant be hugely different, most of the sensors are shared by the 350,murano, elgrand and pathfinder. -

it has different cams, ecu, injectors, inlet and plenum. the 350 engine that has been fitted is running 350 ecu etc, all done on a driveway without major tech help. surely fitting stand alone management would mean forced induction is feasable? -

the 350z engine does fit, has been done, there were some wiring issues but its in and running and the chap is looking into twin turbo at a later date. the pinouts on the ecus look to be identical so i think with a little work the ecu could be swapped. im not sure on this though ha -

Thanks for the replys, it would seem that no one can read the elgrand ecu, unable to get it tuned in the uk. i can buy a nismo ecu but its a risk coming from japan second hand. -

we have only had it on the road for 2 weeks and its easily the most looked at/gets most interest car i have owned, ive had all sorts but nothing gets people talking like this lol. I have got lots on the way from Japan, it already has dvd headrests, double din, dvd sun visor lots more mods i have done too, cameras in the front valance and mirros, its on coilies, its a Ken Style kit on it, only one in the uk with the full kt, only covered 20k too!. I have cusco strut brace and arbs coming soon, i have K sport 8 pots on the way for it. is on 20s, have some more 20s on the way with a nice fat dish. Ideally i want to supercharge it. trouble is getting parts like ecu etc. i need to do some research on the 350 parts, hence joining here. Does the key link to the engine ecu and immobilise that way? i would like to get a 350 ecu and see if it will run with the elgrand -
Hi all, so i dont have a 350 or 370 but i do have something that shares a few bits, mainly the vq35de block and rear diff. I am looking to modify my engine, im not new to modifications or to japanese cars but i am new to the vq35de engine. the elgrand doesnt have the same inlet mani setup, Injectors, ecu and i would imagine different cams, the ecu does not use the same protocol as the 350 and cant be read by OBD, needs nissan consult 111 software to read. I am hoping to put a 350 inlet and ecu onto my elgrand.
