California Senator Proposes New High Speed Motorway
GranTurismoEra replied to GranTurismoEra's topic in Off Topic Discussion
LOL no way. I know what you mean as Ive lived there for 2 years. They definitely cant use that material. Similar to the concrete on certain sections of the M25. But I doubt they would ever use soft british style tarmac. At the moment those two routes are rated 65 MPH I think. It took my brother a whole day morning till night to return to San Francisco from LA. 8+ hours driving. With an unlimited motorway could probably do it in 4 hours -
https://jalopnik.com/a-california-bill-aims-to-create-the-unlimited-speed-am-1832754745 Proposed Route 5 and Route 99 LA to Sacremento to San francisco with 4 lane Autobahn Freeway. As a rail link will take too long and cost too much to build. It would add two unrestricted lanes to both highways. Also proposed a 100 MPH speed limit on certain sections. Some debate over the maintenance of a very flat motorway similar to the autobahn. This is basically a 382 mile Route!

GranTurismoEra replied to sasha@lazytrips's topic in LazyTrips
Im wanting to do the road trip to scotland next year. They say April is best time to avoid huge amount of tourists. But would be a nice addition for the UK initially! The write ups on the site for the south of england/scotland road trips are quite good. Just reading it now -
summers coming, good timing! Tempting

LazyTrips - the new trip planning and hotel booking site

Itll be a nice addition to add Guided Tour or Road Trips similar to www.petrolhead.tours. This is a nice start. Looking for an alternative to them as they are pricey -
We left it. Car was not in great condition. The guy did nothing to help. AC not working, brake pads not fitted properly, window fault, leaking front shocks from 2017, heated seats faulty, leaking rocker, noisy clutch plus front crash repair although hpi clear. Someone did a botch job with repair Didnt want to know, got defensive tried talking at me. For some crazy reason we were still willing to see if he could sort one or two issues at least. Although he promised to call us on Monday he already emailed us claiming he sold it the very same day. Now my brother has been put off by the experience and says he,ll stick with what hes got. Cant blame him. Rest is history.

I had misfiring on my civic back in the day. The car misfired a lot less filling up at bp than it did at Tesco (Esso). Unleaded 95 I did go there for 99 momentum on both zeds. No problems at all.

Okay will do
-
To repair the rust properly as in cut and put new metal and seal. Do you know roughly how much? I might be interested myself. Also do you have receipts for the service parts since its not in the book?
-
okay, ill check with him today. See if hes still looking. I would ask more questions but best to find out what he wants to do Thanks
-
nope not far, lets see if my brother hasnt been put off by the other one. Yeah we got into an argument with the guy. He didnt know the car had a frontal crash. Kept going on about hpi. And a guy coming from leighton buzzard.....i was like a million people can come. I already spotted somethings before the mechanic turned up. Mechanic highlighted more things. Also claimed a judge owned it and moving to some island. But spent sweet fa on the car..... Let you know later on. The underneath ok?
-
Uk car or import? Also where you based? Went to see one on Saturday. had leaking shocks for two years, rocker cover, window issue, pads not fitted properly, ac not working.
-

That will never happen here. Even stonecold serial killers are afforded a certain level of comfort. That sounds like third world jail. Thats why people are happy to reoffend if it gets them off the streets, 3 meals a day, free gym, a bed and increased criminal and law knowledge is a plus. You also make links in jail sometimes of the religious kind.

yep. I was there during the 90s. Military rule. So military police were common. It wasnt unusual to see tanks in the streets and police checkpoints. Abuja was better placed as Lagos was beginning to become overcongested and population was at the brim. Infrastructure not very good. Power management not the best. I actually know what tear gas feels like. Aside from the negatives like crime , corruption etc it was okay. Just have to be wise. Although in my opinion I think the north is an entirely different issue. They probably feel they arent reaping the benefits like the south. Its a muslim majority and im not sure the government have control of it. You have influences from the arab world funding boko haram. Some say Al-Qaida, al shabaab and many others are involved to disrupt the country. Nigeria is just like many other countries. I wouldn't go to certain areas in this country either. In London too. Problem with Nigeria is a lot gets promised at election time and hardly ever gets delivered. They have these "forever" projects where the money just gets eaten up. Eko Atlantic is a good example. They promised a monorail going from the islands to the mainland still not done. Infrastructure is a big thing that needs improvement. You dont need the chinese taking over the country. These things can be done internally. I can understand railway projects needing to be outsourced. What annoys me is government ministers like "dino melaye" driving around in his Ferrari with police escort to his mansion yet people still live on £1 a week. Which position is paying Ferrari/Mansion money. Some are paid higher than Theresa May yet do a fifth of the work while stealing more money...... Nigeria has potential that im afraid to say will never be met due to the need to be greedy, showoff and corrupt. A damn shame when you look at how far Singapore, UAE and Malaysia have come in comparison. Many Nigerians living in those countries. UAE get an idea, put it to fruition and complete. Nigeria, plan, talk, plan, decide on budget, meeting, money goes missing, replan money doesnt come, back to square one, when it finally gets going its beyond budget and gets put on hold indefinitely. Then you got a guy like Mr Innoson Motors, trying to spread public transport and make buses, trucks and cars people can use locally and support the economy getting arrested ........."enemies of progress"

May have been a teacher at the mosque, watching material on the net. Victims of the wars of recent years etc...Self radicalisation is realistic. You also need hard evidence to prosecute these hate preachers inside the mosques or places where they teach.

It is, if she was born in the UK. You cant tell a country that she hasnt lived in to take her. If Im the government minister. Id tell you to take a jog in the other direction. Why should the UK take her? She IS a british citizen. Yes You can play on the fact she can claim dual nationality. Problem is Bangladesh dont want her. So what next??
-
I lived there from 1985 to 1996. In Lagos. Apart from the odd riot, police tanks and military police, protests against the corrupt military leaders, civil unrest now and again. It was fine. My aunt lives in Abuja and the worst that happens there is people stealing drain covers to make money. During election times its best to not travel till the dust has settled. I remember as a kid I used to laugh at news reports from CNN and the way they pronounced locals names. Would I live there, Yes with a lot of money obviously and improved street smarts. Its a playground for the rich. Just stay away from the North. Who to be honest are very different people to the south. Religion and Language play a part in the divide. Lagos is just as international as any other city
-
Almost a condescending insult to assume Bangladesh would take her in. Which in reality they wouldnt. Thats like saying shes not good enough to come into UK but Bangladesh can take her. We are more valuable and see ourselves higher than the bengali people. Funny enough their government has said in no uncertain terms she cannot go there. Also even if she was to apply for citizenship she'll probably be denied under the grounds of terrorism You can either allow her back in Britain under arrestand sentenced to prison Offer her deal in exchange for information, but she has to help rehabilitate others under close supervision on a 40 hour contract for the rest of her work life or something similar. Enforce it or send her to prison if she doesn't comply Leave her in Syria to deal with the consequences. Which legally UK has to answer to a governing body on why she isnt allowed back in and left stateless. On the flip side to fully understand this you need to go to the roots of how it all starts. What the causes are. Is it to do with what she watches on the news, sees on the internet, listening to radical teachers at the mosque. The mass destruction of muslim countries in the wars past? On a larger political scale what are the government doing regarding foreign policy. When people are calling into LBC, CNN etc and echoing the same "mind our business" message everytime their are talks of new wars. UK should be promoting a no more wars and meddling in foreign affairs message. A more inclusive culture for those already here. Inner cities should all be running anti radicalisation programs from primary school teaching positive british values. Not the pushing of agendas and left wing trickery. That might reduce radicalisation in the long run. It can still happen as UK historically has been directly involved in the destruction of Syria. Lebanon, Afghanistan and Iraq. A lot of that based on false intelligence and fake news. Speaking of remorse, I doubt she'll ever be remorseful after seeing harrowing pictures from the previous wars in the last 19 years....So everyone can keep waiting on an apology.....
