  1. Hang on, so the discount is more than £670? Wow. Or am I getting something wrong?
  2. Good to see you guys, glad I could make it (especially if Mark makes a habit of adding more 'disco' to my car each time!) Andy, could you PM me some details on the exhaust? While the Invidia sounds great, the difference between £180 and £850 does make me consider
  3. Andy, I'll give Nippon a browse, although as has been mentioned elsewhere, this is a common issue for the Rev Up model, so I could well be replacing a faulty engine with another faulty engine! I've had the spark plugs replaced recently (July), didn't do it myself however they didn't mention any oil on them. Where would I fit the oil catch can?
  4. Mark, I'm going to give the compression test a go, at the very least I will get a better picture than I have now. What test would you recommend for the oil control rings?
  5. Sure, that's 30 mins away. Wouldn't be able to today, trying to make the meet in MK after work. Might be able to do it on the weekend or next week? Thanks

Ah, that'd explain that then! Cheers. I take it those aren't recommended because of fitment issues etc?
  7. Cheers guys. I wouldn't be able to buy a compression gauge before I meet you anyway. Yeah kinda down on luck lately but things will turn around eventually.

    Rocket bunny 350

Hi gents, I've been looking into Rocket Bunny kits online. Looks like you can get the lot for £1k here: http://www.knightracer.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35_43&product_id=3013 I could be (and probably am) looking at the wrong thing or something though? (Also, not trying to be a dick to Adrian, he's been super helpful today!)
  9. Might be able to make it down, would be late though, maybe 9 or 10.
  10. Supra, I'll try and make it down, although I've got a work event this evening that supposedly ends at 9 (in Luton). I'll try and get out early and give you a call. My concern for doing it tonight is A) I don't have the compression gauge yet, the lighting at the stadium isn't great! ZMANALEX, what would you suggest?
  11. Hi guys, So, following some good advice from Adrian at Torqen (among others), it is time to do a compression test. The aim is to figure out where all my oil is going. This can be done with standard tools that I own, however I don't have a compression gauge yet. I have almost zero experience in terms of vehicle mechanics, something I'm hoping to change. For now though, would anyone be kind enough to help me out? I'm based in Milton Keynes. If I can get my oil issue sorted and get that warm fuzzy feeling, I'll hang on to the car, maybe build the engine and make a proper project of it, learn the craft as I go. That's the dream anyway Link to a compression test walk-through: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6QShFmsEdn4
  12. Scary stuff! Cheers guys. Will avoid, y'know when something sounds too good to be true... As for the oil consumption, it's about a litre every 500-600 miles. I know that isn't unheard of for the 06, it just bothers me that I don't know what the cause is! If someone said 'oh that's the PCV valve, or it's the short block, a gasket, rings, whatever, I'd be much happier. Thing is, the quotes I get for a proper investigation are painful to say the least . Mark, I'm still saving for that exhaust by the way, that's on hold though until I feel happy everything else in the car is as it should be.
  13. Raven, I very nearly bought a 350 with over 100k on the clock, it doesn't bother me, it's just that for £2.5k (fitted) I can get a fully refurbished engine (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350Z-3-5-V6-ENGINE-VQ35DE-01-07-S-F-BUY-WITH-CONFIDENCE-100-SATISFACTION-/131924778779?hash=item1eb7545f1b:m:mZLJ1ffqXeDRAYHwBt8-H_w), which is tempting. This comes with: New headgasket Pressure tested and skimmed head New valve stems All oil seals done Crank shaft polished and refurbished New big ends New main bearings New rings Then I know I've got a solid foundation for any future projects. Downside is, unlike Torqen's engine builds, this would be an 'as new' stock DE engine, rather than one strengthened for FI. However if I had £7,300+ I'd have many more options than I do now! As a couple of you have said, I'm usually in the camp of fixing something that is a known entity, I've already dropped a fair bit of cash into it (relatively speaking I suppose) so this is the last major niggle. As for waiting for it to go bang, that'd be a shocker for me as I need to drive into work every day, 60-mile commute, with no other vehicle, buying and insuring another car as backup would cost me more than the new engine once all things are considered (insurance, tax, service etc). And then the bike option, I spent a while this morning (shh, don't tell the boss) reading up on experiences people have had and...well, every time I start to think 'ah it's not that unsafe really', I see a dozen more 'I/someone I know had a horrific accident and is forever disfigured! It's a tough sell. Has anyone heard of/used Global Engines before? If I do end up investing heavily in this car, I will make a project page and just make it a beast, because I may as well!
  14. Ah to have the funds for supercharged/twin turbo setup. The thing that has always held me back on pursuing FI is the fact that people list how long their car has survived it! If I were to do it, I'd do it right and build the engine from the bottom up, but when I put all the costs together, I could purchase a built HR with all the bells and whistles. I use my Z as my daily and have no other vehicle, so the downtime in getting her built would be a pain (but not an insurmountable challenge I suppose). Cheers for the input, I'll sit here stewing on it for a while. Any and all suggestions of course welcome.
  15. Hi gents, My car is getting through a fair bit of oil (not unusual for a rev-up I know) and is approaching 100k mileage, it bothers me enough to consider: Replacing the engine (can be found nicely refurbished for £2.5k) and then giving in to Zedditis Selling up and getting an HR Selling up and getting a 300cc bike and a cheap run around car for poor weather All of the above are similar costs using my limited man-math. I do love the car, just feels like I should take some action one way or another. I've recently spent £1200 on repairs following my first (major) service since I've had the car, brought out a few issues which to be honest I got bent over paying for, but was in a hurry. Thoughts?
  16. Saw him (think it was a guy) again today going the other way in MK as I was headed toward the M1.
  17. I'm in, should be able to make this one. 1) Matt89 2) Andy_Muxlow 3) MarkSt 4) OliverB 5) Sadly I can't make this date, work have requested my presence until around 10pm
  18. Out toward the M1, think he turned left before it though
  19. Couldn't make this one in the end either! When's the next one?
  20. Was followed for a bit, tried to say hello but due to the traffic never had the chance to get side by side (that and I was in a bit of a hurry!)
  21. So I can get away with bringing mine all covered in dirt and mud from my unintended drive through the woods? Hurrah!
  22. Sorry to see it! Always worries me when the local kids take a special interest in mine. All the best.
  23. It requires the removal of the front subframe as the bolts are into the chassis, been quoted £200 for the work (didn't give an hourly rate, private mechanic in Bedfordshire).
  24. It's just drinking oil. Also approaching 100k mileage. I know neither of them are particularly worrying on this car, just seems like if I'm going to hang on to it for a good few years it might be worth the investment
