  1. Hi guys, Short of it: Immobiliser malfunction (light solid red when key turned to 'on' position). Engine cranks but doesn't start. Remote lock/unlock works fine. Context: Car valeted at Leller's in London (because I happened to be there). Get called as I'm having a beverage round the corner - "car won't start mate". Give it a go, as above. They push the thing into the road and leave me to get on with my life (and take my money, grumble). RAC man rocks up some time later, plugs in the laptop of hope. "Can't tell you, our system is too generic for security issues. Looks like the immobiliser though. Best take it to the Nissan dealer." And they drop me and the zed off in Milton Keynes, at my humble abode. Attempts to resolve: 1) Kayla (from the forum) and her good man Ash kindly arrive to give me a hand (was trying to get to Japfest on Sunday), we try re-syncing the key to the car, resetting the immobiliser from the manual. We then try putting my key in Kayla's key fob, sync and...vroom! Success. Drive it more neatly to my front door, all fine. Turn engine off, on again to check. Problem has returned, can't get it started since. 2) Call Nissan, best they can do is 9th of May with a minimum of £114 to 'have a look'. Booked in, but will cancel if I can find something better. 3) I've spoken to half a dozen 'auto locksmith' type folks, as well as one that specialises in immobilisers. Best I've got is "We can come and have a look, at the least point you in the right direction", for £65. One chap suggested the valet my have got water on something, being over a day from the issue, I can't detect any dampness, but can't rule it out. Really gutted, as with no courtesy car, I'm a little screwed getting to work (train is a fair walk from here, luckily I can work from home for a few days). Does anyone have any experience or suggestions to get me back on the road? I'm willing to pay for someone that knows their stuff to come out, if they are willing! Furzton, Milton Keynes. Fingers crossed!
  2. seconded! (My zed still won't start!)
  3. Thanks for the advice guys! Lewis - I really appreciate the suggestions, I've heard of the PCV being the culprit on the 2006 model. As for the mileage, I'm on 93k, I'm hoping to avoid a rebuild/replacement - if I were to do it, I'd be keen to have the engine prepped for a supercharger, as that's something I've had in mind for a few years down the line. I understand FI requires (or should require) some building of the engine to cope, could I make those changes at the same time do you think? Hopefully it keeps motoring along without ending up with a boot full of oil cans like a certain Honda
  4. Hey guys! Kayla from the forum has very kindly offered me a ticket for tomorrow. I'd need to swing by hers to pick it up, she tells me it's on the route. Would you guys mind if we stopped there for long enough for me to grab it? If not, I'll tag along up until that point. Now to get the zed clean! 1. SUPRAWOOKIE 2. newkid 3. Amyzed 4. Tkddave 5. 5. Cheers, I'll log the oil consumption and maybe resurrect this thread down the line
  6. Cheers gents. I have only owned the car for a couple of months, had to top up once (a small amount) and then had oil top ups included in checks I've had done, so haven't got into a routine. My commute is 28 miles, lots of smooth M1 driving (ahem) and the roundabouts of Milton Keynes. I've had so many plans for mods to the Z (largely cosmetic), would you guys suggest saving the money for a rebuild/new engine instead, or tolerate additional top ups/changes?
  7. Kayla YES PLEASE! I'm based in MK and the only reason I'm not going is cost.
  8. I suppose they ran it for shorter than 600 miles and multiplied based on average consumption? So...uh...will probably regret asking this but, how much does an engine rebuild set you back? And while I'm asking, could I put an HR engine into a DE for a similar cost? Seems almost easier if I could find a 350z HR that's being broken up.
  9. Today I was informed by a garage doing a service on the car that my 56 plate Zed (DE) is burning 'up to 1 litre of oil per 1000km'! I knew these cars, particularly of the 2006 batch have been known to go through it, but this is mad. Has anyone had similar problems and does anyone know of a solution? Cheers.

  11. That was probably me! Was rather flustered driving around to get paint and other bits for the house. Moved in now
  12. Sad to see! I'm looking at going the carbon bonnet route and I also have a red Z! Hope you find a buyer!
  13. Looked lovely, somewhere between 1200 and 1330, can't recall. Red trim. I think I got a wave but the sun was reflecting in my eyes at the time!
  14. Can't recall now, but likely between Junction 10 and Junction 8, it's my commute. I can be found between 0800 and 0830 somewhere on that stretch southbound
  15. Cheers for the info! I'm sorely tempted, but my house sales just fell through and I'd be lynched if I spent more on the Zed right now! On top of that, I've got cruise control on mine so would have to put some work into putting holes in the right places etc. Best of luck finding it a new home.
  16. Hi, I'm interested in the wheel as my current one has a fair bit of peel and fading (the last guy must've had some seriously greasy mitts!). How tricky was it to remove this and install a new one? I have no experience when it comes to airbags and I hear they can be troublesome.
  17. Oh had a squeak that got pretty constant over the bumpy roads near my my house. Thought it could be the suspension (rubber washers that squeak when they are dying). Turns on the suspension is in very good nick but the squeak is coming from the interior (from my research it is likely the passenger seat runners or seat belt holder) will give it a good WD40 when I pick it up! Should be moving house tomorrow by the way! FINALLY
  18. Looked smart this morning. I was driving a battered old Pugeot 406 that I'm borrow while my car is getting fixed up.
  19. Payco that looks great! Hadn't seen it before.
  20. You mention a colour coded engine bay - do you have any pics to hand? Thinking about making mine a little smarter and a touch of colour would do nicely!
  21. I'm interested, just need to convince my insurer (Hastings) that they should insure me with one. At the moment I can change the windscreen wipers
  22. You forgot to mention the most important bit - the stubby aerial!! Welcome to the forum and congrats on a beautiful car.
