Cheers guys! Just what I was after thank you!
-
Cheers fellas! Think I'll just look into either full insurance or just get a transporter for now!
-
I've had quite a thorough search now, and to be honest I'm still stumped! Hopefully someone on here may be in a similar situation so will know for sure!
-
I had looked into it before when I nearly bought an English model, and I could happily get single-day insurance for the car so it could drive it home and stick it in the garage before heading off... However, no companies seem to offer short term insurance for imports
-
I agree, from what I can tell I can't just simply borrow some trade plates to drive the car home, then post them back the next day (unfortunately). The main question now is.. It's probably the more sensible option to just insure the car fully for myself and just bite the bullet for the couple of months of no-use. The only problem with this is that I really can only afford next saturday off work so ideally it would all be sorted in the one day. i.e. Look at the car, decide if it's the one, then sort out insurance and tax whilst I'm there, then get it home. My only other option would be to go and have a look next saturday, if I like it leave a deposit, then arrange for a car transported to deliver it home, that way saves tax and insurance for the months where I'm not using it, but opens up the risk of it being damaged in the interim before I get home! I know it seems like an odd scenario, but I'm working up in the north at the moment where I only rent a house (and have no space for a car realistically) so the car needs to go home (B'ham, where it can be kept for a couple of months before I get back) if that makes any sense/puts the post into context!

Hmm, this is copied and pasted from DVLA website.. 4. First year of registration These rates apply when a vehicle is first registered. ... Then when you look at the car info they hold it has criteria for "date first registered" and "date first registered by DVLA".. so assuming they are consistent with their nomenclature, it should (hopefully) be the lower rate
-
Hi guys! Not necessarily a technical question so mods please move if posted in the wrong place! Basically I was just wondering what the exact legislation is for tax. So cars registered before the 23rd March 2006 are cheaper to tax (around the 23rd March, I may be wrong), but is this the "date of FIRST registration" or the "date of FIRST registration with the DVLA"? I've had a quick look and can't seem to find anything absolute either way, but I'm guessing some of you guys must have JDMs that were registered in Japan in 2005 or something, then imported in 2007 for example, so what tax bracket do you pay? Cheers in advance!

Yeah car has 11 months MOT What does the law say about borrowing trade plates?
-
Okay cheers guys, I think it's probably the best option! Out of interest what is VED?

Okay so I'm going to go and look at/probably buy a Zed next Saturday, but unfortunately as I'll be stuck up in the North for a couple of months, and I plan to keep the car back at home during that time I think my best bet insurance wise is to just get single day insurance to drive it home before then returning back up North again. However being an import model, all of the usual 'short term' insurance companies don't offer insurance for it. So I'm just wondering if anyone on here has any ideas? The way I see it, I have a few options: Trailer it home? Although probably about £100 (From Manchester to B'ham) and also makes paying the seller more difficult. Get myself a full year insurance anyway (although it will feel strange paying for a years insurance then not driving it for a couple of months). I could even get my father to drive it home as his insurance extends to driving other people's cars, however, only if the owner is fully comp (which I won't be). I could see if I could keep the current owner as the current owner, and thus allowing my father's insurance to cover it just for the journey home (would there be any possible problems with this?) So yeah, any ideas guys? Also, to the insurers on here, do any of you offer short term insurance like this? I've already got a really awesome quote from Adrian Flux, but for a full year, which I'm a bit apprehensive about getting just now. Cheers in advance guys!

350z 35th Anniversary edition for sale
Gus-350z replied to Gus-350z's topic in Spotted on Ebay or Other
Okay so I've thought long and hard about this, and have spoke to the seller a lot and he seems like a really nice genuine guy! Went through all of the history and car documents over the phone etc and even had a facetime to look over the car and hear it start up etc! (Kinda weird I know, but next best thing as I really can't get the time off work to travel and look myself!) I have managed to haggle down to a really good price, so before I think about completely commiting I was just wondering if anyone has any last opinions before I do so? Just general things such as the differences between the revup engine and normal DE, the subtle differences between JDM and UK models etc would be really helpful! (I've looked into all the main things, but any more info would be fantastic!) Thanks in advance! -

350z 35th Anniversary edition for sale
Gus-350z replied to Gus-350z's topic in Spotted on Ebay or Other
It's up for £6k, here's the original listing! (EDIT: forgot to actually paste the link.... http://www.asmotoruk.com/listings/nissan-350z-3-5-v6-fairlady-35th-anniversary-edt-2005/ ) I reckon (hope) baring in mind it needs new tyres, front wheels are a bit scuffed and what have you that the price is negociable. Thanks for all the help so far guys! And yep I've done quite a lot of reading up on the 35th edition, I don't think it's far off the GT4 version we had over here, so up-rev motor, CD009 gearbox and then some snazzy (for 2005) interior pieces, including the 2 tone leather seats. Is there anything in particular that needs special attention being a JDM model? And please let me know if anyone's around the manchester area and fancies a test drive and look to see what it's like! As I said, I'll happily pay anyone that's free to help! I'd love to go and have a look myself but I'm stuck up here working at the moment and won't get a chance for at least a few weeks! -
Thank you! For anyone that's interested, here's the post with all the info... see what you think! http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/104779-350z-35th-anniversary-edition-for-sale/

Hi gus! I got slightly messed around with last week when I tried to buy my first zed, although I can kind of sympathise with the seller and it wasn't entirely their fault (sort of). Anyway I think I've found another one, but unfortunately I'm stuck up in Durham with work at the moment and can't go and look at it so I thought it could be helpful if I stuck the details up on here to see what you zed gurus think! So without any further ado, here we go! 2005 (05) Petrol Coupe Manual (6 Speed) 78,921 miles Metallic GREY, 2 Owners From New, 2 Keys, Full Service History (7 Stamps + Mant invoices) Last Service at 70,226 miles Manual, MOT 08/10/2016, MOT History, 300 bhp /// Tracker Fitted on 25/10/2007 Japanese import on 27/08/2007 35th Anniversary Edition In January 2005, Nissan introduced the 35th Anniversary 6-speed manual models and Track models (mid-year introduction), which included the updated VQ35DE 300HP/260TQ Rev-up engine and new updated CD009 manual transmission. As well as minor changes to suspension tuning and parts 350Z 35th Anniversary Edition (2005) Okay so it is a Jap import, but I've checked all the checks and everything and it seems good! Also the insurance isn't too bad either, only a tad more than a UK car. And the seats/badges etc all seem to confirm that it is an anniversary edition so that could be a small bonus. I've also had a look at the MOT history and it seems pretty good, no obvious recurring mechanical problems or anything... The only thing is that they indicate that it will probably need some new front tyres and discs/pads soon, so that's worth baring in mind. So yeah that's about it, what do you guys think? Also, just as a long long shot! If anyone on here is based in Manchester and would be incredibly kind I would be more than happy to re-imburse anyone for time/petrol etc if they would offer to go and have a look for me, just PM me for details etc if you would be willing to do so! Cheers guys Gus

Hi guys! Okay so long long story but I ended up getting slightly messed around with by the seller of the zed, so no zed right now However, I have continued looking and I think I have found a promising looking one!! The only problem is that it's in Manchester (and I'm stuck in Durham this week). So basically, are there any incredibly kind members here around the Manchester area that could pop in and have a quick look for me to see what they think? Of course I will be happy to pay for their help and time etc? Thanks everyone!! Edit: I've also done all the online checks and MOT checks etc and car sounds really good with no real apparent problems! And if there is no one around in Manchester that's free soon, if I were to put all the info etc on here would people be happy to offer opinions etc? Cheers, Gus

That's not very useful then - you have to wash the car every time you park it and want to cover it? I probably won't bother if it's just for everyday use.. Just I'm going away for a short while so it'll make sense to put it on once then hopefully come home and uncover the car as I left it!
-
Thanks mate, I'll keep a look out for it!

Hi guys! Just wondering if anyone's had any experience with outdoor car covers before for the 350z? Unfortunately my mini needs some welding at the moment so is taking up all of my garage space, and I'm having to go away for a few weeks so I'm tempted into getting the zed a cover to keep her out of this miserable weather! But just wondering if anyone's had any experience with them before I start looking into getting one. Cheers!
