Very.

Cheers mate

Haven't seen a leak that bad since a con rod shot through my block many years ago. I still drove the car 25ish miles home lol. You don't sound mechanically minded, so I would have a garage collect it and investigate. Otherwise, take the tray off, wipe the engine down. Make sure there's enough oil in the car, run the car and ascertain where the leak is coming from.

The CD009 fits cars up until 2006 including both VQ35DE and RevUp engined cars. The problem was identified and fixed at some point in early 2006, so I am unsure if that means some facelift cars have the dodgy boxes or if some pre facelifts have the uprated one. Buying this I would imagine to be pointless anyway because a rebuild should cost around £5-600. The Nissan service manual for the 350Z gearbox says that anything pressed out of the gearset has to be replaced with new items. That means any cog you press out needs to be replaced, plus all the synchros, plus everything else holding it together. ..so I understand, how true / vital this is I dont know Nah, that's bullshit. You can buy uprated gear sets and synchros to press onto the original shaft. if that were true, for some valid reason, you wouldn't be able to source GB parts.

Exactly. hugely expensive.
-
Well either way, there's problems with the gearbox. Nissan concur, hence 9 or 10 revisions and ongoing of complaints across many forums. It's not imaginary when my first gearbox was toast and my second one is going the same way. and others report the same exact problems across the world

12 years?

Email them and ask them to sell you the synchros

Well OS Giken do a complete upgrade on gears and synchros for the Z33, but the price is insane. around £3,000 http://www.osgiken.n...=9&product=gear I don't think there's any problem getting upgrade kits, it's because those upgrade kits are aimed at the track enthusiasts and command premium dollar. Bit of a rip off this country for parts. they just replace the $ sign for a £ sign and stick it to us. I just want some uprated Synchros rather than the ones made out of a dairylea I can buy from Nissan. And cheers, I'll get in touch with Gearboxman tomorrow or Monday and see if they can suggest anything....for reasonable money.

My mate is cracked on them. His is lethal, an incredibly quick motor. Always winding up Porsche, Beamer, Jag and Audis, they just don't see him coming. And yeah, he's always fixing or tweaking it. Very fun go kart.

Loving those wheels. What are they?

It's funny how people will risk death rather than offend the person putting them at risk by saying "Stop the frikkin car, I want out!" Very British.

I drove home after posting that and the gearbox was smooth as silk, cold and hot lol No idea Geg. Paradoxically, although they're flawed, they seem to be pretty tough. There's a large demand for them by the drifting community to adapt to their none Zed cars, so it can't be all doom and gloom. Heard nothing back from any of the Engineers regarding fabricating Synchros so I think I'm going strip my own box and learn to refurb it. Doubt it's as hard as people (who've never done it - as usual) make it out to be.

Aye, there's loads. There's a guy in the USA that ended up putting a brand new 370Z GB in his 350. Took some work milling the shaft to fit the main bearing, but he put the internals in a 350 gearbox, Cool write up and no where near as difficult as you'd expect. "Smooth as butter" is his quote when driving Love the American can-do attitude. http://my350z.com/fo...conversion.html
-
Yeah, seems to be the one weakness of the 350Z. The guy to talk to would be ZMANALEX about gearboxes. I think he knows what fits what, and all about the revisions.
-
Yeah, it's about 600-800 for new OEM synchros put in. You'd need to ring around.
-
My original box was a CD05 and 1st gear was toast. So had it replaced, with a CD03, which was fine, but lately it's started playing up in 1st and second. I spoke to a gearbox specialist tonight. He said fitting custom synchros isn't a problem, the problem is that the synchros can't really be made out of anything too hard because they have to grip the gear to slow it down. Harder material = less grip. So we know the OEM syncros are junk, and probably made out of Nickel-Phosphor Bronze; nearly all synchros are, so I'll need to speak to a precision engineer to see what materials are available.
-
Not sure, like I said, I'd need to talk to a GB specialist to see if that's even an option, I don't see why not. I know a refurb with new syncros is appx £600. So having a set machined by a precision engineering firm is probably going to cost 200 maybe? So you could be talking just under a £1,000 for a uprated box. But it should be bullet proof afterwards. or import the CD0A from the USA for £1085 + £208 shipping + 20% Customs. Then adapt it to your DE. Or have your box refurbed for ~600 and hope it doesn't happen again. they do if you look back in time https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=currency&oq=currency&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i60.1432j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=0&ie=UTF-8#q=350z+gear+stiff

Depends on your perspective; what vehicle you came from. I came from a Land Rover and an ST, both of which are noisy as hell on the motorway. So the Z is quiet to me. That, or the Landy has made me deaf. But if you come from a Merc or Lexus, you may think the Z is pretty loud. I drive a 15 plate Merc E220 at work, which is pretty quiet I guess. When I return it, and get in the Z, the noise has never occurred to me.
-
Mine warms up really quick too, seems fine though. If you're worried, you can get a thermostat for about 30 quid.
-
I think the syncros are weak in the 350z boxes. I understand they fixed it with the CD09 and CD0A HR boxes. I've read posts by people on the US forums where they've refurbed the box, only to have the problem return after a few thousand miles or so. So I can only imagine the OEM syncros are made out of cheese. I'd need to talk to a gearbox specialist, but the only real options I can think of is to adapt and fit a later model gearbox, or have custom, tougher syncros machined and fit those. Both options would be really expensive. I imagine that's why people put Moly in. I put Millers 75-145w in mine and it's helped a lot, but not completely cleared the problem. Difficult to understand how Nissan made a really great car, yet totally ballsed it up with the Gearbox....and it took 9 revisions to finally fix it!

I don't get any rattling with the roof up or down

Schultz should prevent rot. Keep meaning to do mine.

New owner, already got problems! (ALSO ANY IPSWICH OWNERS?)

My Land Rover used to clunk on clutch release/engage. I found it was the u-joints on the drive shaft were worn out. Cheap, quick and easy fix on a Landy. Can't see it being much harder on Z Get in on 4 axle stands, start it up, and have your mate go through the gears while you look for backlash -
Always makes me suspicious when someone pays for an expensive modification just a few miles ago, and then they're selling it. Makes me think a mechanic has just warned them that the big end is about to chuck it's hand in.
