Picking up my 370Z Nismo in 4 days! can't wait!!
-G- replied to 370Z Nismo's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
Congratulations & Welcome, it's nice to see someone super excited about owning a new car, especially a Z. From anecdotal evidence, the exhaust on the 370z Nismo is a bit weedy sounding so if your VX220 had a ripping soundtrack, you might miss it a little bit. Plenty of options for decats, High flow cats & aftermarket back boxes available from our traders. Welcome again :-) -
Before I collected my 380RS I asked the prepping company to have a tracker & immobiliser installed - which turned into an almighty clusterfeck, as after my first attempt at cleaning the car I ended up with water in the drivers footwell. It turns out they didn't fit any replacement grommets when running the cabling to the battery. I subsequently got a new head-unit, reversing camera & replacement immobiliser fitted and the new company doing the work were happy enough to address this issue when I brought it to there attention. However, after washing my car and garaging it before going offshore, the problem is not 100% fixed, it's miles better, but there is still humidity present after washing the car and it is doing my box in. Ergo, could someone kindly furnish me with the part numbers of all the weather seals & grommets associated with running cabling from the cockpit to the engine bay, or at least point me in the right direction? My plan is to go over all of the possible ingress points and replace the seals accordingly. To clarify, tThere is no ingres of water evident anywhere else other than the drivers-side footwell & because of the proximity to the fuse-box, I want it taken care off ASAP. I leave a dehumidifier bowl in the car as a matter of course & the car is garaged when its not being driven. Any other suggestions welcome

Introducing my new Zed - Fairlady Z Version Nismo 380RS
-G- replied to -G-'s topic in Member Build Projects
So I forgot to update the thread with the small modifications I'm permitting myself to do. namely a stubby aerial, LMGT4 wheels courtesy of ZMANALEX & some decals :-) -
It appears the first fatality from a driverless car occured in May & the investigation has found flaws in the technology http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36680043 Tesla were doing remarkably brisk business, but shares are down today, Wondering if forces opposed to Driverless Technology are going to take advantage & to try and kill it off.

Glad to hear you've reconsidered Jeff, your car is awesome, you need to enjoy all that hard work you've put into it a while longer :-)

I only joined the forum last year (or was the the year before?) so not as au fait with other peoples experiences. If I run out of fuel and 95 is all thats on offer, I fill up with a tenner until I find momentum or V power then fill the tank to the brim. I'm sure many others do the same.
-
Like everyone's said, 95RON is fine, higher revving hotter engines need higher octane fuels to prevent pre-detonation. The 350z is a quick car, but it doesn't really suffer from that problem - I've certainly never heard of anyone having an issue in a 350z.

I'm not on about changing tax - just re-allocating it. On the subject of oil running out, if you are genuinley interested I can forward you a link to a piece I wrote on it. Basically, whenever Scotland talks about Oil, it's a burden and a finite commodity, Whenever the UK talks about it, its got a bright future - it can't be both. http://czkane.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/is-scotlands-oil-running-out-depends.html

When someone discusses “Oil Revenues†what is the first thing that enters your head? Is it; 1. The Tax levied per barrel of oil produced? 2. The Tax levied on the profit an oil company makes? 3. The corporation tax of an oil company? This isn’t a trick question, but in order for you to understand, “Oil Revenue†we need to make something abundantly clear – there is a complex system of taxation that masks both the true value of oil & gas and the extent of its influence on our economy. SUPPLEMENTARY CHARGE This is essentially the closest you will get to option 1. It is a levy on the profit of oil and gas extraction charged at between 30 - 20% and is usually lumped in with corporation tax. Petroleum Revenue Tax Petroleum revenue tax is option 2. It another additional Levy on the profit specifically arising from the extraction of hydrocarbons on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) It only applies to fields that were licensed & approved prior to March 1993 – meaning that newer developments are NOT subject to this charge. With this in mind, it is unsurprising then that “PRT†revenues are falling, as the fields developed prior to 1993 are all very near their end of field life. (The rate of pre-1993 PRT was reduced from 75% at inception to 50% after 1993) PRT was re-introduced on a case-by case basis, after tax-allowances at a rate of 35% Ring-fenced Corporation Tax This is a special form of taxation that prevents oil companies from offsetting losses elsewhere in their business against an over performing asset. It applies only to Oil & Gas companies. Corporation tax is universal across the UK at 20%. Now in anyones mind, that is a LOT of tax for oil companies to burden, but it is the price of doing business & many companies do still generate profit, when the oil they sell is priced high enough. It is conversely true that only when oil companies are making big profits, that the UK exchequer does too – this is important, because this what the media mean when they say “oil and gas revenues†are down, declining, diminished, waning, etc etc – BUT – it is not the whole story. There are many companies, who support the oil & gas industry in myriad ways - but are not included in the figures for “Oil & Gas†because they are not directly profiting from the extraction of Oil & Gas nor are they subject to the taxes I’ve outlined. Does that make the income generated by these companies any less dependent on the Oil & Gas Industry? NO! Are their profits subject to the price of oil? Partially, but so long as the industry continues to operate, these companies still turn-over vast sums of money which contribute significantly to the economy of the UK. Let me give you some examples. Emerson, Siemens, Honywell, ABB, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Weatherford, Oceaneering, Wood Group PSN, Enermech, Scotoil, Asco, Petrofac, Aramark, ESS, Stork, Amec Foster Wheeler, SubSea7, Bibby offshore, Siepem, Sodexo, Capita, Bond, Bristows, CHC Scotia, Odjfell Drilling, Dolphin Drilling, Diamond Drilling, Noble Drilling, Intertek, SGS, IKM, Tyco, Falck Nutec, Survivex, Sikorsky, AirBus Helicopters, Hilton Hotels, Marriot Hotels, Travelodge, Best Western, Holiday Inn, British Airways, Eastern Airways, Easyjet, Scotrail The list is literally endless & the point I’m trying to make is that the vast sums of income tax, national insurance, VAT, Fuel Duty etc generated in support of the oil & gas industry, despite being generated in Scotland – is deemed “British†revenue by virtue that nearly 95% of companies that actively support oil & gas are tax-registered in England. At the moment, revenue from income tax & NI is based on “sampling†across the UK & by population share, which is a ludicrously simplistic & inaccurate method given the disparity of the wealth generated in Scotland and the tax ultimately attributed here. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/464199/HMRC_disaggregated_receipts_-_Methodology_Note.pdf If you work in Scotland, but your payroll department issues your payslip from a tax-registered office outside of Scotland, the tax you pay is not deemed Scottish, but British. In the instance where Scotland took complete control of its economy, there is a colossal slice of British Tax Revenue that would become exclusively Scottish & over the last 4 years the British establishment & media has worked hard to ignore / disguise that very fact. What I’ve outlined above doesn’t just apply to the Oil & Gas industry; it applies right-across the UK in every town and city. The ramifications of correctly-allocating the tax revenues of companies that primarily do business in Scotland or within Scotland’s waters is profound & can’t be ignored when considering if Scotland should stay in the EU as an independent country.

This again. One of the key arguments made against independence in 2014 was that in order to stay in the EU, Scotland needed to vote No. That wasn't a small part of thier campaign, it was a central pillar, as was the UK's AAA credit rating, turning family into foreigners - you name it they used it as a justification to keep the UK together. Its very easy for you to assume it's cut and dried - that England & Wales voted to leave so everyone else has to as well, but that's not the feeling up here - especially after the last few days. The reality is, the EU see Scotland as an ally who will join/remain within the EU without England and take with it the geographical portion of the North Sea that Europe benefits so much from, namely Fishing & Oil. In German a this is known as Realpolitik. There will be dissenters within the EU such as Spain who are embattled with the likes of Catalonia & the Basques seeking independece, but when it's explained to them that the North Sea they have enjoyed for the last 40 years risks becoming closed to them when the UK leaves, Realpolitik will take over again.

My guess, Brinkmanship. They wanted the vote close to 50/50 so they could use it as a means to reform the EU further, but they completely misjudged the mood & ended up not doing enough to prevent it. On paper, Cameron got everything he asked the EU for prior to brexit and that still wasn't enough for the hardcore in his party or the ghouls who vote BNP / UKIP. He literally painted himself into a corner & he did it needlesly. In fairness, if Gordon Brown had given the public a vote on the Lisbon Treaty (when it was the Lisbon Treaty and not ammended to the EU constitutuoin after Ireland rejected it) this might have happened sooner rather than later or conversly, it might shelved the issue until the next reform bill 10 years later. We'll never know. I for one think there's many unseen & unheard benefits to the EU that we really don't know how badly we took it for granted until its staring us in the face. I appreaciate not everyone will agree so save the effort of chiming in to say so.

And there's 40 years of trade, environemnt, & safety regulation to scrap and rewrite not to mention employment and employer rights, crininal and civil statutes., What an almighty mess.

Future of Japanese car manufacturing in the UK in serious doubt now. Turns out half the Brexiters didn't know what the CET was. Insane.

A Scotsman, an Irishman & an Englishman walk into a bar; But the Englishman wanted to go so they all had to leave.

Leaving the only option for the #Brexit camp to defy the sewel convention & seek to dissolve the devolved parliaments of Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland. i.e. England pulling the plug on the UK
-
Looks like those who resent asking the Scots for permission to do what they want are set to be disappointed. http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld201516/ldselect/ldeucom/138/138.pdf https://t.co/7aqGpTDlBn Page 19 paragraph 70 It appears that because all the devolved assemblies were created to comply with EU law, extrication from the EU requires the consent of all the affected devolved assemblies to ammend the core legislation upon which they were created in order for non-EU compliant laws to be passed. (Such as revoking maternity pay limits, working time directive) To clarify, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland would need to agree via an act of parliament to amend the legislation before any new legislation could be passed. Refusal to amend the legislation will result in political deadlock. They could of course attempt to dissolve all 3 devolved assemblies at once. I wouldn't wager that would be very wise.

Anyone lucky enough to be going can get a good look at the Top Secret R35 GTR development car on the Fast Car stand - it's owned by my friend and club-mate Lewis. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10154180447611070&id=12146896069

Simply, she just despises Britain and as per Torqen, she is as xenophobic as they come! I don't believe what I'm reading - Nicola Sturgeon? Xenophobic? After the campaign that Farage, BoJo & Gove ran? I'm detecting full-on overtones of embitterment & hostility towards Scotland based on what I can only assume are a mixture of half truths & outright lies. If there wasn't a funamental flaw with the relationship between the home nations, a referendum would never have been called in the first place. Cat calling Scots as ungrateful, petty ingrates isn't going to solve this constiutional crisis, nor will it heal the schism of what the EU referendum has created.
-
Sturgeon Yes, you were. 2 years ago the No camp insisted that the only way to safeguard EU membership was to vote no. Conversely, yesterdays result makes the opposite true. There were serious misgivings about how England would end up voting in an EU referendum post-indyref and these were laughed off as fanciful & ridiculous at the time by the same media now stuggling to comprehend what leaving the EU means for the UK. Well now you HAVE voted to leave and Scotland & Northern Ireland voted to stay - this is not a position anyone in Scotland wanted to be in but there is a clear-cut case for Scots to retain our place in Europe and thats exactly what she is doing.
-
With 62% of Scots voting to remain EU citizens I see little appetite here to "wait and see" what a hapless, third rate Westminster politician can negotiate out of what is arguably the worst decision taken in the last 40 years. Even Juncker is keen to get started. Many people were swayed by the uncertainty of Scotland's continued EU membership and voted no during the independence referendum, the sheer scale of people I've seen today lamenting a second chance is considerable & I haven't seen a single media pundit or politician with an ounce of credibility publicly state there isn't a mandate for a second vote given the circumstances. The UK is finished, its a matter of when, not if. Cameron will be remembered as the prime minister who destroyed two unions in one term.

Shouldn't be slipping that early on,a friend recently had a nismo coppermix clutch fitted and was also slipping, turns out there was a spigot bush fitting for an auto box still attached that needed removed. Been fine since.

Are you swapping from a DE? Won't it look unsightly with the twin lines that run into the DE's front bumper? Or is the front bumper getting upgraded as well?
