0-60 in 18.2?! She may well not need a powerful car, but I'd be surprised if that could make it up a steep hill!

I've done the ARDS National B test. It's very basic and on it's own doesn't teach you that much. If my memory serves me correctly, it consists of a fairly basic multiple choice test (flags etc.) and a few laps during a track day with an instructor, purely to show that you're not a complete numpty behing the wheel. Of course, it's the first step to making a career for yourself in motorsport, but I'd imagine it would be a long way after that to get to the level where you could be an instructor, as jetpilot said. My instructor for the test had something like 20 years as a professional racing driver (I'm sure that's far from the minimum, but just to give you all the info I have).

Funnily enough I used to drive an old L reg Corsa GSI with 16 inch rims (I mention the rims because they did drastically increase grip and reduce body roll). I once had a boggo Punto as a courtesy car while the Corsa was off the road, and the first moderate corner that I took at what I thought was a moderate speed, I almost understeered straight off on two wheels! Since then, I've known to take it very easy in unfamiliar cars

Gel is the absolute best bet but it's just a good old car dealer trick isn't it........whack a bit of bullshit on the tyres and that 2mm all of a sudden looks brand new Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk True. I actually used tyre gel for the first time the other day, and was pleasantly surprised by the result (although my tyres are actually pretty new, so it's not like I'm trying to convince myself that they're alright ).

Well, until I make my millions, I think I'll make do with what I've got. I don't think a couple of kilos (even unsprung) is going to make a massive difference to me.
-
Not to mention the cash
-
Thanks, but I think I'll stick to tyre gel

Yeah with the greatest respect to it, it falls into the catagory we refer to as 'bullshit' products........right up there with tyre black, megs ultimate compound etc. Not to say that they are bad but they create an illusion rather than a reality Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk Is there a 'genuine' way to keep / make your tyres black?

Can't beat a black HR that looks super tidy as well. Welcome

Want to maim a cyclist and get off Scott free? Hire a car in Nottingham
BobbyZ replied to -G-'s topic in Off Topic Discussion
Yeah okay, having thought it through a bit more carefully, I guess it is impossible to avoid potentially locking up the wrong person. It's a huge stretch to imagine that he genuinely didn't know, but assuming that he named the person, it would still have to be proved that they did it. -

As I previously stated, the only reason why I'm taking this view in this case is because it's quite clear that either the guy that hired the car knows, or that it was driven by someone who shouldn't have been driving it, in which case he should say so. If it's possible that they don't know, then absolutely I agree that it shouldn't be possible to pin it on them. As far as not wanting to tell the police stuff, I'm afraid that's all part of breaking the law. I don't agree that it's right that people shouldn't have to answer questions about criminal offences just because it's a bit awkward. I don't want to get into trouble with the law either, but as the saying goes, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. -

What if it wasn't him driving? What if it was one of his mates? What if you knew it wasn't him, but he was covering for someone else who would beat the sh*t out of him if he told the police? Would you admit it then? I doubt it. I wouldn't. The law isn't perfect, and you can't protect everyone - I get that. The question is, do you want to protect people that are blatantly lying to protect themselves or people they know, or do you want to protect a cyclist that could have been paralysed or killed? You can keep throwing hypothetical situations at me all you want, but it's clear in this instance that they're lying to save their skin, so I don't see the harm in just charging the person whose name the vehicle was in at the time. I know the law doesn't work that way, but it should do. And in your example about the son covering for the local hard lad, I'd clip him round the ear and tell him to man up -

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you're asking what I would try to get away with, and using that as a basis for how laws should be written... No, what I was saying was is that neither the person who hired it nor his wife his wife were driving it. They could've loaned it to their son, which means that he would've been driving without any insurance and the hirer would've known that. As such, not only would they have been grassing their son up, but also the hirer would've been subject to a charge of allowing a vehicle to be used without insurance. It's a smaller penalty financially to cough up to a S192 offence when getting your insurance renewal than it is admitting to any kind of insurance dodgyness. We all know how rare it is for parents to dob their kids in with the law. Should we make every parent responsible for what their kids do? Certainly there's an argument for yes, and I've made a hell of a leap there which isn't really fair, but I'd wager that most people would think no. This is such a rare incident, and unfortunately it does highlight an apparent injustice in the law, but it's the lesser of two evils. Yeah no problem - either grass up the little sh1te, or eat the penalty yourself! -

The thing with this situation is that the only plausible explanation for the incident is that they wanted to injure / kill the cyclist, and the only plausible explanation for no driver being named is that they wanted to lie to get away with it. I don't see why they should then have a right to be protected. For me, the right to remain silent is there to stop innocent people from being coerced into confessing - the same reason that torture isn't allowed. -

It's almost definitely BS if a couple says they can't remember who was driving anyway, although in the case of speeding fines I don't care too much because they're a load of poo. In the case of a proper offence like this though, yes i think when someone is deliberately withholding the identity of the offender, they should receive the punishment if they don't spill the beans. It's also not directly comparable to your speeding example, because it's not possible to forget that you rear-ended a cyclist. -
Oooh, I wonder if we're related. Welcome

Saw this earlier - bit of a joke really. It should just get pinned on whoever the car is legally under the possession of at the time if no one owns up, but of course the law is too 'fair' to do stuff like that. -
Evening guys, Looking to sell a few bits that I've replaced recently. None of it's in what you'd ever call mint condition, but will hopefully be of use to someone. I'm looking initially for collection from Orpington, but might reconsider if I can't get rid of them. Mods, apologies for the day old date on the photos, but photobucket was down last night when I tried to do this. GT4 Alloys ***SOLD*** In need of a refurb - some kerbing and corrosion / paint bubbling, but structurally sound. £100. Does the HR also suffer from the same restrictions in the plenum?
-
Well, technically you can't gain power at a given RPM without gaining torque I quite like the quad pipes - nice work
-
Out from OEM won't affect TC, as long as the front:rear ratio is correct. It will make your speedometer read incorrectly though.
