  1. morning, i saw DDays lovely Z the other day with its spacers fitted. car looked fantastic when driving behind it with the really wide stance. evey inch counts, and the extra 2 of them looks awesome i can see plenty of pics of these fitted to front and rear. but i am looking to only do the rear. i like the design 'in my head' of a wider rear end over the front but cant see anyone thats done it. anyone got any pictures of this setup? any wheels, 0mm front, 25mm rear? cheers Pritchard

  3. lol, poor bloke asks about cams then gets suspension and tyres down his throat. I've not fitted cams on the Z. But theres a US mag that have fitted a set and dynoed. They fitted the Jim Wolf cams, a warm cam with 260deg duration. The dyno shows the typical kind of loss and gain pivot. although they do state the ECU wasnt tuned. Afternoon, Do we have a trader that specialises or has experience fitting headunits, new speakers etc for the Z? or otherwise has anyone used a good local shop in Kent? been digging around and it seems theres a few more things to consider than your normal upgrade, like the steering controls, rca splicing, mounts required for the doors etc. id rather give the car to an installer who has done it before rather than chancing my local shop.   5. I've run 2 cars with remapped ECUs, one of which had a piggyback before binned it, (dont do this! lol) and a standalone on another. my knowledge in the grand scheme of things is 0. So i am only repeating experience, not knowledge, from being on the receving end of dyos before: An ECU has to monitor several inputs in order to adjust timing and fueling. 2 of the primary ones being air in, (MAF or MAP) and air out (O2 sensor, AFR) You fit a new exhaust system and intakes, the ECU doesnt know that you have. All it knows is that the inputs have changed. in this scenario we would expect the AFR to be leaner than before due to more airflow in total, so the ECU compensates by correcting the fueling to bring the AFR to a level it deems acceptable, as per the configured map. im just saying ive been on the receivng end of an ECU requiring new maps to fully utilise new mods. However gains are indeed seen without a new map, and the AFR is kept within normal limits but the ECU.. but never that an ECU is so ''thick'' (because, thats whats being said here in the above posts, not that its smart!) that it does not correct the outputs. Just talking out loud. But its just i've not seen a dyno yet that proves this 'ecu counters mods' theory. Hence why this thread got started where is this proof? lol. Pritchard
  6. this. The Ecu is a clever bugger and basically blocks any power from bolt on mods until a uprev. The most beneficial graph would be an uprev after each bolt on. Which then comes into a daft cost. #teamtarmac mmm. So the ECU reads more airflow through the MAF, and so retards the timing to counter? Odd. Well i'll run the extra dyno anyway. lets see what happens.
  7. exactly my point. where is this dyno that says this?? I couldnt even find one during my searches on the US side. Meh. I dont mind paying the extra dyno. as long as Mark hasnt got anything else on it.
  8. I missed a bit off the end lol.... so, my point being. theres plenty of graphs showing the difference the ECU tuning does, but nothing of the ''full package'' as it were. Im just a little confuzzled to think that I may be the first? surely there must be 'full story' dyno on here for one chaps car? Pritchard
  9. Wait a second before the flamethrowers come out... I've just read through the ENTIRE 7 page 'Dyno Results Page' sticky. However, the ONLY before and after dynos i can see are before and after the remap, and NOT before and after the bolt on mods. I only question this, as I am booked in with Mark @ Abbey in a couple of weeks and I am keen on getting a dyno run in before the bolt ons are done. That should then give me 3 curves: 1. Arrival. (stock) 2. pre-ecu tune (all bolts ons fited) 3. after ecu tune. I cant see anyone else that has done this? I'm booked in for the the P3 service, plus the following: '06 airbox (Velocity stack mod) Plenum spacer Sports cats Y pipe Uprev tune. Currently done: Lightweight flywheel Non-resonated Cobra. Thought it would be a nice graph to see? Watch this space. Pritchard
  10. I'm already booked in with Abbey in a few weeks time. I'll be quizzing them then In retrospec, the idea of dropping the tyre profile sounds like a nice idea - lower your car, shorten the tyre wall (cornering stability), and increase acceleration. sounds dreamy, doesnt it? lol. of course, changing the final drive keeps your speedo accurate, or at least unchanged. where-as tyre changes mix things up a little. out of curiosity i just ran a couple of tyre sizes. pretty easy to lower the car by 15mm and drop the final gear by 2.5%, while putting more rubber to the road: Front: 225/45/18 to 235/40/18 drop of 15mm Rear 245/45/18 to 255/40/18 drop of 17mm, and a 2.51% final drive reduction bit off topic. sounds like an epic thread of its own. lol. the 4.08 does sound awesome though. theres some good clips of them on youtube. they look to suffer on grip, but then absolutely fly up the speedomoeter!   11. yes i have a single mass lightweight fly already. ECU is on the list too for the delimit of the lower gears. i did punch it into the calculator last night with the gear ratios and tyre sizes, IIRC yes you are correct, 2,500rpm was 70. with the 3.9 it dropped to 66mph. but dont quote me, i didnt write it down! lol. as for tyre size, yes i also looked at the lower 40% profile, this drops the gearing by 3.69%. a nice little drop, but i already have issues with speed bumps. i dont really want to lower the car, even if it is only 2cm yea gear shifting is always going to be a bane. but for example: 6,500 rpm limit, 4th gear redlines at about 114mph with 3.5 FD. 6,500 rpm limit, 4th gear redlines at about 104mph with 3.9 FD so in a race to 100, it still requires the same number of gear changes. anyway, during the ECU remap the RPM can be slightly extended, so even though you may be beyond powerband, you can hold onto a gear longer than required to avoid another shift - say, nearing the finish line of a drag. *edit., i decided to punch in me ratios. 3.5 FD - 2,500rpm in 6th = 71mph 3.9 FD - 2,750rpm in 6th = 70mph
  12. Afternoon, Search is not my friend today. Found plenty of hits on the US forums, but not on the sane side of the pond. Standard gear ratios take 6,500rpm DE engine to a theoretical maximum of 184mph. Thats 29mph over the electronic limiter, 84mph clear of an auto-ban (not to be confused with auto-bahn!) and 114mph past a speeding ticket. In realistic terms, racing down the (private) road from a standing start and your in speeding ticket territory during third. Point being - there is alot of 'wasted' mph in the top end that i will never use. why not put that to good use in acceleration instead. so, theres 2 final drives that iv spotted for the 6speed box. the 3.9, and the 4.08. The 3.9 drops the final by a nice 11% in multiplier. The theoretical maximum then becomes 164mph (-17mph). MPG is relative to throttle position, rpm and speed. as i dont utilise the upper gears around town at the moment i still have them to select if the 3.9 allows me to do so, this being said MPG around town shouldnt be affected. longer cruises will be, likely for the worse. but, then i didnt buy this car for its MPG qualities so, anyone here fitted one of the aftermarket final drives? What i am after really is a competent mechie to fit one. last thing i want is a berk who cant re shim a pinion properly. Gearing is so often overlooked when modifying in my opinion. and a car with legs like this need to be curtailed to get me from A to B quicker Pritchard
  13. Afternoon, I am a NA lover. FI is and always will be ''cheating'' in my eyes. Every tuning project ive done has been NA. to the extent of valve work, compression increasing, ITBs and standalone ECU jobbies. however these are as we know, expensive. Not only that these projects were on 4 cylinder engines. adding an extra 2 is literally 50% more in cost! Anyway.... Check out this 350z project in the US. they are doing a full ''bolt on'' NA tune. they have not yet remapped the ECU, but have a full exhaust (inc manifold) and cams installed, and have dynoed at every step. Results are impressive, especially as ECU remapping is yet to come. put into perspective for a minute though... a 3.5liter making nr 300bhp NA. its already quite efficient. read this 350z project... and all its bolt on articles. very well put together. http://www.motoiq.com/Projects/Nissan/350Z.aspx Pritchard
  14. my last exhaust system was a long 4-1 racing manifold with decat and short exit pipe - on a 7,500rpm Rover K series. so, that is my most recent comparison. ... its very quiet, to me. although in seriousness, 'drone', i really would have to say it was very quiet on the motoway. went through the 50mph averages on the M1 also and was fine. only thing i would refer to as drone was when i put my foot too close to the floor in too high a gear when trying to accelerate. but even when using cruise control up and down undulations, very peaceful. could hold a conversation as normally as before.
  15. Evening. Thanks for the Cobra non-resonated. all fitted and sounded lovely. after more noise, and of course more power prior to the ecu tune. I cant see any Exhaust manifolds on your site. Do you sell them? I would be after completing my exhaust, so: Manifolds, de-cats Y-pipe. Can you let me know if you supply them, and ping me a quote. Cheers Pritchard
  16. its the Single-pipe > back. (so, OEM Y-pipe in place). i've had some lairy projects previously, so its relative for me. no worries though, time to work forwards towards the engine. still really happy with it. just needs more decibels. *editied, meant Single-pipe.
  17. Its fitted. ..... its too quiet. !! Sounds really good, really tasteful. just drove 300 miles to and from Loughborough for a driving experience (Ariel Atom and McLaren MP4!! woop) so gave it a good run. there was no exhaust drone in cabin. i didnt even have to raise my voice to talk, i could hear everything the missus said ( ). Its a great peice of kit. nice and loud through a tunnel. and between buildings. but iv noticed its almost silent when coasting down - no de-acceleration growl at all. so yea. its awesome. just too quiet for what i was after..... de-cats and manifolds it is.   18. well, its getting fitted today :-) cant wait. iv heard a scorpion and a resonated cobra in the flesh now. both sound nice. and quite deep sounding sounds. but, just too quiet for me. if i can be tech savvy enough to do it ill upload a video of it later Pritchard

Thank you sooo much for this thread !!! just came across it by accident. i dont have the fuel cap sticker... when i read this opening post of ''dont use 95ron, or this will happen'' i swore out load and called the OP a rude name for spouting false propaganda. then i read my manual.....:0 Thank you!
