Good Tyres V Bad Diff *field test results post25
Kieran O'Quick replied to Kieran O'Quick's topic in Performance
Bit of data at last. In the first round I went with some mid-range tyres and a Kaaz 1.5 but was slower than last year. I put that down to the slightly heavier wheels they were on. Next event, put R888rs onto the Rays. Previous year's best was 67.82 over the full season. Matched it on the very first practice run on a cold track. Got it down to 66.39 after 3 more runs. Last run was quicker but didn't bring it home.. Finished the year with a best of 66.17. Really annoyed not to get into the 65s tbf but it was bloody great fun trying. I found lower pressures (28) gave great launch times (2.55 sec 60 feet) but struggled a smidge for lateral grip and hammered the tyres. They look pretty funky now. Higher pressures (34) cornered really well but launched slower by a tenth or two which adds up to quite a bit in the second sector too. Absolutely no warming allowed - I tried to sneak a bit of heat in on the way to the line early on in the year but got told off for excessive weaving and braking . To be fair the eagle-eyed Marshalls take no crap - as it should be. Here's a short comparison of two corners with the different setups to listen to. Hope it helps anyone wondering about diffs. http://youtu.be/6K_ikK5caDk (God I'm thick when it comes to this embedding .. -
If you are representing yourself (Litigant in Person) and are awarded costs you can claim for all the hours of work you have done. So time researching, time spent in court, waiting time, possibly time spent traveling etc can be all claimed for. All the stuff solicitors bill for. As well as postage costs etc. It was £17 per hour a couple of years ago. It varies as to what is allowed and they can adjust down as they see fit. I was told I couldn't bill for the legal books I'd bought but got all of the above in a private sale case I had a few years ago.

You're right, there's something wrong there. A '58 should be a rev-up unless the convertibles are different? Or the personal plate is hiding it's age?
-
I didn't know that - you might have found me a few tenths there, cheers.

I run the 888r in the sizes you're looking at on the Rays. The front rim seems to sit a bit proud of the tyre. I can only compare them to MPSS. I'm 1.7 seconds quicker so far on a 66/67 second hillclimb. (I meant to share the data in another thread but never got round to it ) Surprisingly, on my first run on a cold dirty track they matched the best that the MPSS had managed the previous season. Once the track warmed up they cruised past. As for wear, they do get hammered if you're at the wrong pressures. I think I've been a bit too low this year and the fronts are rough now. The backs are fine even though they're smoked a lot (some tight bends where you need to keep the revs up..) There's a guide for 888 tyres here: https://www.toyo.co.uk/page/index/identifier/set-up-advice They consider the Zed "Very Heavy" ...

P0350 Ignition coil primary/ Secondary circuit malfunction
Kieran O'Quick replied to Rob332's topic in Servicing
A faulty coil usually just gives P0300 Random Misfire. It tends not to identify the cylinder. VDC light doesn't come on either - just EML - so it could be something else? -
August Skipton am meet and drive 19th August
Kieran O'Quick replied to Spatt's topic in Local Meets Across The UK
It's this Sunday (6th) Btw. Yep it's at Harewood - there's diverting enough selection of cars to pass an hour or two looking at. Tenner to get in -

Kieran O'Quick replied to Spatt's topic in Local Meets Across The UK
If anyone can't make this run out and is at a loose end this Sunday there's a car show near Harrogate - Fueled Society is the crowd running it. Usually a couple of Zeds are parked up as well as a few hundred other randoms. Loads of grub outlets there. -
wanted: Orange Bumber Reflectors '56 Rev-up
Kieran O'Quick replied to Kieran O'Quick's topic in Wanted
Pretty bad but it's a common mistake apparently. From the Urban Dictionary: bumber Another "word" for a bumper, as on a vehicle, except spelled in such a way that the moron using it obviously has no common sense to know that a bumper is named for a reason...It is what you BUMP things with if you're not careful -

Sorry guys, just seen this (am lost a bit with the new forum) I've ordered a new one a couple of weeks back so no good for me - I'll bear you in mind though if I break it again. (V-likely ) You could PM Blocko (above) to see if he wants them.. -
wanted: Orange Bumber Reflectors '56 Rev-up
Kieran O'Quick replied to Kieran O'Quick's topic in Wanted
Apparently it's the same as the HR one -
Anybody swapped to clear and have an old set of the orange ones they don't need? Or even just one for the passenger side. Thanks.

Those clutch-less cars with a normal gear shift were a great way to introduce yourself to the windscreen. The old left foot just had to do something as soon as you'd touch the gearstick...

I've run a custom y-pipe and got rid of the mid box. Sounds better than standard, I think. The rasp tends to come from removing the cats. It's so subjective though. Best to get to a meet - listen to a few and copy what you like.
-
The trouble is a failing coil can be rubbish for a while (especially in traffic when it's hot) but can get a second wind and work faultlessly for months. And if it does misfire the code reader never seems to identify which one it is. Freezer spray seems to be the best way to find the faulty one. But they tend to fail under heat but yours was lumpy from a cold start - suggests something else.

The GTM Supercharged Silver Pheonix

Guessing a 4wd pipped you? Pretty good to be within a second of one of those... would be sweet if you could close the gap. -

Looks mean as hell Andy. Give 'em some stick out there. That rubber and diff should be good for a second or so even going steady. -
Cheers Doc. Can't make it though. Got a two-day event at the Hillclimb series I'm contesting (well sort-of contesting ) that weekend. Got some very close rivals that I'm scrapping with. Always a pity to miss it. Really sound people, phenomenal track action and the Mother of all parties.

As someone said earlier, get one with recent brakes, tyres and a decent exhaust. If not, haggle like mad. I went for the cloth seats version - cheaper, lighter, lower seats - so more headroom. It's the purist's choice. It's snug if you put a helmet on so bear that in mind if you go for electric leather premium ones.

Ha, good.

Yep, I half-spun a couple of times there in the Zed trying to flick it onto the staight - but still loved it. At Anglesey the git in the MX5 nailed the hairpin and then pulled to the right as if to say "please come through, oh, sorry I assumed you'd kept up, my mistake..." Quality bit of trackday needle.... kudos if it was you. Bright yellow helmet?
-
WHAT?! Ok, I looked back at some of my vids and, yes, I would go there again definitely. I still think it could do with a good fast transition somewhere... having said that, I was on crap tyres and got out cornered in those sections you mentioned by some dodgy MX5... Strange though what people look for in a track. For instance, I love that last long right at Snetterton but know some people who say it's just really boring, goes on to long.

Obviously it's all about performance... but that front looks really good too. Nice.
