Junction 17 - Nottingham. questionable gearbox comments
keithvmx1200 replied to Azure350z's topic in 350Z General
I had problems with Lee at Nottingham J17 over a deposit of £100 I left with them on a Porsche that on the test drive kept going up and down the box and would suddenly put it into 1st gear. Lee said he would get it fixed and it would not be a problem. I got home and told my local garage about it who advised me not to touch it with a barge pole.I rang up Lee the next day and asked for my deposit back and he said I could use the deposit on any other car they had there but did not want to give my deposit back.It took a few months and a lot of phone calls and talking to Trading Standards they did give me my money back but said I was banned from any of their showrooms. I bought my 350z privately and its been a great car and has only done 24000 genuine miles and has full service history. It is due for a MOT on January 9th which I will get done as well as getting the garage to give it a Major Service. I will then put it up for sale,so if anyone is interested let me know but I will put it in the for sale section in January, Regards Keith -
I know its off topic but I think we all love a powerful engine and this one sounds great. I think you should adjust the volume from the start and go full screen.I would like to know what you think of it. I must say my first reaction was F-----g hell. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did but sorry to say I have been told it will not be around much longer and I would love to go and see it live. Regards Keith

I have just bought a 2006 with full history and its only done 25000 miles but the last three services says intermediate I guess its because it had not done many miles since the P3. What is a P3 and is it expensive. I live in Gloucester so can anyone tell me my nearest honest and inexpensive garage who knows how to service a 350Z or is there no such garage. Regards keith

I had a 2008 350Z in the past and ended up with a floppy clutch but the clutch would bite as soon as it was off the floor. I have started looking for another 350 Z and found one I like. I did ask the owner about the clutch and he said it was perfect but it does not bite until it is almost at the top of its travel which I have always thought it meant the clutch was on its way out, but he said he has mentioned this on this 350Z site and was told this was normal on a 350Z. I do not want to buy the car then face a bill of over £2000. I would like member's thoughts on this please. Regards Keith

Can anyone recommend a good garage who can work on a 350Z not far away from me in Gloucestershire without robbing me..I guess I would travel up to 80 miles to someone who knows what he is doing and does not overcharge. Regards Keith

Do what Alex said " Fresh fluid, braided line and new external slave cyl will fix the fault." Regards Keith

My car was a 2008 so would it have been a HR engine. I think I remember Nissan of Gloucester saying the clutch and flywheel were more expensive because it was a HR engine. I guess the HR engine suffered from floppy clutch pedal as well. I do wonder how many clutches were replaced by Nissan of Gloucester when all that was needed was Fresh fluid, braided line and new external slave cyl .

Thank you Legend I had never heard of anything like it before and surprised Nissan of Gloucester did not know about it. I will now get back in touch with the dealer who sold me the car and see if he had put a new clutch in the car like he said he was going to do before he sold it on. I am so angry that I got my money back on the car because I thought I was facing a £2500 bill. Regards Keith

A few months ago I bought a 350Z from a dealer but after three weeks of ownership I went to overtake a car and had my foot down hard when the clutch pedal went all floppy and flopped to the floor and there was a horrible burning smell but after a few seconds the pedal returned to normal and drove normally until I accelerated really hard so I assumed the clutch was worn and to cut a very long story short I took the car back to the dealer and got my money back thanks to trading standards. I was put off the 350z because of this as I was told by Nissan dealer not only would I have needed new clutch + flywheel and with labor charges would cost £2500. To bring you up to date I got the urge for another 350Z and looked on all for sale sites for one and found a really nice one but on asking the owner if he had any problems with the clutch he told me that he had experienced the clutch pedal flopping and he thought it had been a worn clutch but here is the interesting bit when he took it to his mechanic and not a Nissan dealer he was told that the problem was the hydrolic fluid and he said that once that was changed the clutch worked perfectly. I was a bit skeptical about that and did not buy the car but have any members come across this problem as I would love to own a 350Z again. Regards Keith

Dealer told me today he will give me all my money back except for £300 which is not too bad as I could have waited for ages before it went to court. I consoled myself over the £300 loss and looked upon it as a 3 month car hire. I would like to thank all who put input into my topic. I am now looking for a nice 350Z with a good clutch. Lol Keith

It has come back to haunt me, spent the last 6 months convincing myself i'd done the right thing, so much so that once the wedding is done next April i'm off out to by another zed!! Its gonna be an exciting April in 2015!! I will have a nice Z up for sale once the new Clutch and Flywheel are fitted. LOL
-
Thanks for everyone for their input. I have found someone in Gloucester who has given me a estimate total of £1263.60 for supply and fit 3 piece clutch assembly + dual mass flywheel and they are almost on my doorstep. I just have to wait to hear from the dealer who I bought the car from to see if they are willing to put their hands in their pockets to pay for it.
-
I think you are the one not listening. I took the car to 3 separate garage's within 25 miles of where I live and they all said they would fit a new clutch but would only guarantee it if it was with parts recomended by Nissan.

Re the 160-180 speedometer. I was going by the one's I saw on YouTube. I have just put mine on YouTube even though I am not able to drive it at the moment.
-
I wondered if the 2007 350Z HR has a higher top speed than earlier models.I know it red lines at 7500 instead of 7000 and its speedometer goes up to 180mph instead of 160mph. I guess if anyone says they have seen the top speed of their car on a uk road they leave themselves open to prosecution and jail so tell me it was on track or in Germany or other.LOL
-
Thank's for all your advice. No one would guarantee any clutch fitted unless I use the Nissan HR one. I am still waiting to hear back from the car dealer who sold me the car.Trading Standards has told me that as I was not able to overtake a car without the clutch slipping the car was not fit for purpose. I have been told by Trading Standards that I have to do all contacts with the dealer in writing. I have sent them one letter but so far no reply. I will let you know how I get on.

When you pay almost £12000 for a 6yr old car with only 40.000 miles on the clock you do not expect to be paying out over £2000 3 weeks later.I did investigate running cost's Petrol,Tax,insurance etc but did not look up the replacement cost on every part of the car besides which the cost for any item can vary by as much £500 depending on who you go to.I always knew going to Nissan dealer would be most expensive.
