Check the part where the release pin sits against, mine had a shallow groove worn into it making it stick so I flatted it down with a bit of wet and dry and it was fine.

I know what you mean about the house diy Gareth I've been working on my house for 5 weeks without a day off! Oh and if you need a fish tank heater as Ricey suggested I've got several spare so I don't mind posting one out to you foc. -
