Welcome aboard Mike.

Sorry for going a little off topic Dan. Get some pics of the engine bay up if you can.

I think I was just cursed with that car tbh and the people I chose at the time to work on it when I couldn't. My mate who spent more money than me bought a my99 JDM WRX Sti Type Ra V-Limited and the only real problem he had was when he first chose to use the same engine builder as me. He was having an EJ20 closed deck forged Cosworth 2.2Ltr stroker build done by them but afterwards the engine began to knock after only a few thousand miles. The engine builder tried to blame him at first although just like me he had followed their run in procedure to the letter. When the engine was stripped down we found out they hadn't used Cosworth gudgeon pins or circlips (maybe to save money) and this was the cause of the fault. I don't know the full ins and outs of it all but basically they were threatened with court action I believe & my mate also went down there with another of our mates who's a crazy guy ~ they took back his old closed deck block, got a full refund on all the parts & that was that. He eventually got the engine properly done by a very reputable engine builder and 10 years later it's still running great for him with over 450Bhp. Don't think I'll ever get another Subaru but never say never.

The car was a classic my96 JDM Impreza WRX. First engine was standard and suffered big end failure after the oil pump died whilst I was driving on the motorway (only had it a month but bought privately). Second engine was the original I had rebuilt with stronger uprated parts (lighter/stronger conrods, STi pistons, uprated oil pump...) by a company in England. I followed all the correct run in procedures etc but the engine only lasted 12K miles before putting a conrod through the side of the engine block. Was running on a standard WRX turbo/top mount intercooler with a touch over 300Bhp (@hub AFAIK) so hardly mad power. First gearbox literally just blew up one day ~ sounded like a load of pennies in a blender ~ this was with a more powerful engine though and the standard WRX gearboxes aren't the strongest. Second gearbox was the original I had rebuilt with new OEM parts ~ (went the following day after rebuild) my theory was that the builder f**ked it up by not putting enough oil in it. They did however fix it FOC. Did have loads of other common faults as well as sensors go etc so all in all a bit of a cra**y Subaru experience. Tbf though I know I was unlucky plus two businesses I used (the engine builder & gearbox builder) were subsequently proven to be inept (imo) or at the least muppets. Can't really argue with that...

I thought you meant mechanically obviously. Never mind me, carry on. No worries. i can remember why you'd question the "reliability" of a Subaru. You were sensationally unlucky. That is very true, ...two blown engines, two gearbox rebuilds etc etc

Think that was Adrian just picking up some more Zed parts, ...got to get them back to the UK fast don't you know.

No not anymore. It's a much better set up though performance wise. The new diverter valve I've got with the GFB DV+ will open in response to both boost pressure & the ECU signal resulting in less turbo lag because the valve will not open unnecessarily like the one I had on there might have. Basically turbo lag is minimised when the valve only vents just enough air to prevent compressor surge. More info here for anyone interested: http://www.gfb.com.au/products/blow-off-and-diverter-valves/dv-plus/dv-t9351-suits-late-model-vag-euro-applications-by-gfb

Good times, ...I miss my Zed. Enjoy yours Shifty.

Don't forget that moment when you think you've just wet yourself but it turns out you've just lent your elbow on the heated seat switch.
-
Welcome back & enjoy the new Zed.

Great stuff & enjoy the Zed. As it's your car now though, ...maybe rename it if that's your thing.

So glad your brother wasn't hurt or you. Hope you get a good victims payout from the court case.

So today I had a day off work and what better way to spend the morning than visiting a performance garage to have them look it over & see what they can do to my Audi should I choose to mod it in the future. I actually went there for a specific reason (dyno power run) but in the end did something different although I'm pleased with the results. The garage I went to was TSR Performance and I had my Forge atmospheric DV taken off and a new revision G diverter valve fitted with a GFB DV+ (recirculating). Old New. The car pulls much better and although I do miss the "tsshhhh" of the Forge atmospheric BOV I think this is a much better performance set up for the car.

Moved to the correct area for you Alex. Hopefully get more help here from the 370Z Gurus. Looks pretty good to me though.

Sorry to see that Trey but glad you weren't injured. There was a spate of idiot kids/teens throwing bricks/stones etc off motorway bridges around the UK at one point, ...is that what happened? As all have said it shouldn't be a write off. Just going to cost you some money to get fixed unfortunately. Good luck.

New tyres please. Excellent & sounds great Trig.

Hello Matt, if you want to turn off the EML then you need to do the "ECU reset" AKA "the pedal dance". Guide here: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/53148-how-to-ecu-accelerator-pedal-throttle-valve-resets/ When I first tried it as my EML came on after adding HFC's (High Flow Cats) I was trying to use a clock with a seconds hand on it just to get the timings right but in the end counting in my head worked better. It can be a bit tricky to get right at first but stick with it as it will work. Once you've turned the EML off though if it comes on again it would be best to get the codes read just to check that there isn't an underlying fault. Good luck.

You're welcome. The service schedule I think is particularly useful when you're looking at used 350's as it will help you with being able to tell how correctly they have been serviced according to the age/mileage they have reached. -
Hodaka seems to be our resident photoshop wizard now Josh. Try his thread here: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/100906-photoshop-requests/

Ahh that's a shame but never mind. Walking away with a trophy for your Zed is always a good day though.
