  1. Although it didn't happen to me before, I read on another Z forum that the rattling can happen when you turn the engine off and pressing the clutch in when you turn the engine off solves this. I just went to try this, turned the engine on and off without pressing the clutch and got the rattle. Tried with the clutch pressed and it's gone. Whatever that rattle is, it's the same rattle/knocking I could hear at tick over with the clutch released after a long journey. I can't hear it at tick over anymore. No doubt it would return if I drove the car.
  2. I went to out to make a recording but it's stop doing it for now. I guess it may only happen when after a long drive. I do notice a difference on sound with the clutch pressed or not pressed. I can't say if it's more than normal or not. When I turn the engine off I hear it knocking again as the engine dies.
  3. Hi, Before anyone says 'I told you so...' I know I should have listened. I needed my new clutch fitting and I asked advice on where on should go here: http://www.350z-uk.c...-clutch-fitted/ Some people said it could be a risk but l decided to take the easy route and listen to what I wanted to hear. To be fair, I thought I would be ok to go a clutch specialist get my new clutch fitted but I guess was wrong I thought everything was good because the car drives great however after listening to it tick over tonight I can hear knocking and whirring noise which sounds like the release bearing when the clutch is not down. When I put my foot down on the clutch the noise goes away. The car seems to drive great but this noise sounds bad. I did have a new release bearing, Exedy OEM spec clutch kit, LUK flywheel, spigot bearing, slave cylinder and SS clutch line fitted. I can take it back but if anyone has idea of what could have gone from info I provided wrong, it would be a big help! I can make a sound recording if it picks it up and it would be useful?
  4. I agree but that's why asked here first. If it was something more Z specific, I wouldn't hesitate but you'd think a clutch specialist should be able to fit a clutch without messing it up. Anyway, I got the car back today. The new clutch feels great, low biting point and loads of grip. Just super smooth. I would recommend a1-clutches. Fitted flywheel, clutch, slave, clutch line and molyslip for £250 and threw in some brake fluid.
  5. I did consider cougar store but this other place is a 10 minute drive and if it's a standard job that a clutch specialist can handle then I'd rather not have to travel and spend a day there. My next mods however will be different, I want a pipercross induction kit, plenum spacer, high flow cats and a UpRev remap. I think I'll travel to Horsham Developments for those.
  6. Ok I will do, how do they know which way is which? It's a LUK flywheel.
  7. Ok thanks. I'll remind them to put the flywheel the right way round
  8. I've brought my parts and I'm having my flywheel, clutch, spigot bearing, slave cylinder and clutch line changed. I've spoke to the mechanic at a local company, a1-clutches.co.uk and said they would be able to fit everything. They said they have done 350zs before but I just want to know if there's anything particularly difficult about the job that would mean I'm better off taking it to 350z specialist?
  9. Thanks again for the warm welcome! This is such an amazing car! I love it! At first the only things I prefered about my RX8 were the handling and extra revs. The Z felt a bit heavy round corners however after a few drives I've adjusted to the weight and it seems to corner just as good as my RX8. The sound of the engine is amazing! It growls when it's given gas and it just purs when it's ticking over. Rotary engines all sound rough and I've heard many including fresh rebuilds. Not the case with this car. i was just listening to it on my drive and giving it a tiny bit of gas. The sound of the engine and exhaust are as soothing to my ears as good music! In 15 years of driving, I never got flashed by other drivers and a thumbs up or even one guy waving his arms saying 'I want that car!' because of how fast it is. It's happened 4 times now in 5 drives since I had it. It happens between traffic lights on a national speed limit dual carriageway near to my house. I obviously didn't go over the speed limit but I wouldn't even need to, there's an instant gap that just gets bigger then slow for the next lights and get admiration! On the same road my RX8 would have trouble with everything half decent that tried the same thing. No more TDis giving me hassle
  10. I would like this doing too depending on the cost. I'm in wolverhampton.
  11. Thanks. I might as well. They're not great in a RX8 either. Shall I fit a SS clutch hose too? Is a blueprint slave cylinder upto the job? I know they're not the best brand but some of their stuff is ok.
  12. Big thanks to Clark Motorsport. They are sorting all the parts I need for a great price.
  13. Thanks for the help guys. I'm steering clear of the XTD. I don't think I will bother with a lightened flywheel because of the noise it can make. I hear what you're saying. I'm not rushing into buying stuff though. I'm just asking questions. The only thing better about my clutch in the RX8 was that it was new. Before it was replaced it, I didn't like it as much. I just like the feeling of a new clutch in any car. The current would last me another 2-3 years with my mileage, so I might as well change it now and enjoy the car that little bit more throughout my ownership. I think I'm going for a Exedy Organic Clutch kit with a LUK flywheel. I'll be sure to replace the spigot bearing too. Is this ok for the that? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Z33-350Z-VQ35DE-Clutch-Crank-Spigot-Bearing-Conceptua-/131174067114?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e8a956baa
  14. Also, would this kit be better? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXEDY-CLUTCH-XTD-LIGHT-FLYWHEEL-KIT-350Z-G35-3-5L-VQ35D-FREE-SHIPPING-/111421321790?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19f13a723e
  15. Thanks guys, Definitely worth changing it if thats the case. Is this the right bearing? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Z33-350Z-VQ35DE-Clutch-Crank-Spigot-Bearing-Conceptua-/131174067114?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e8a956baa Does that add any labour to the job? I read on here that it should take about 5 hours for a garage. Is this right? They must be genuine then. It's whether I want to risk the disc or not. I'll see how much Motorsports quotes me, I pm'ed him. At least I know LUK is ok if I can't afford to upgrade.
  16. Thanks for the replies. So if it was genuine, it would be ok? From what Bradders said plus I have Googled XTD clutches and looking at his feedback too, there seems to plenty of great feedback on these. He has 100% positive and looking through the pages it's nothing but performance cars so I doubt it's fakes. I have sent him a message and will get him to prove they're the genuine product. Was also looking at this, is LUK any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NISSAN-350Z-CLUTCH-KIT-WITH-LUK-DUAL-MASS-FLYWHEEL-/371036943838?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item56638675de
  17. I wanted to upgrade my clutch and flywheel. My clutch is ok now but I had a new clutch in my last car and that's the only thing I can say was better about it. Will this kit do the job?: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111422802078 It seems cheaper than the rest, I wonder why?
  18. Thanks for the welcome. It's just as good close up as in the photos too. So great to drive and I will save tonne on fuel. I was getting 40mpg+ on the motorway if the computer is accurate. The RX8 will do 25 mpg at the very best. I haven't had chance to take it out without traffic yet so I'm about to take it for it's first proper drive. Can't wait!
  19. Thanks alot! After the first 2 I saw turned out to be pretty tatty, I didn't expect to putting a deposit down and pick it one in the morning. However the 3rd was immaculate. I didn't do a compression test, however I could tell the engine was alot healthier or least quieter at tick over, they louder ones did have more miles but still, the sound of engine with the bonnet popped was a thing a of beauty! Another picture, it's not long had a full new exhaust too
  20. I've brought one already! Didn't expect to but after the few I've seen and heard, this one was by far the best. The condition is fantastic, everything still looks new where as some of them I have saw the interiors have wore down. It's done 82k and has full nissan service history. It has black leather, built in sat nav, cruise control and rear parking sensors. The engine sounded so quiet at tick over, just purring like a kitten! then it roars to life when as soon as you touch the pedal. I'm so pleased. Going to pick it tomorrow. I won't sleep
  21. That's great news. I knew these engines were bullet proof. I've drove a few and the power is instant. I love it! I can't speak for others but the 2 RX8s I've owned never used much oil over the 4k a year I drive, I'll be saving half a bottle of oil per year at the most. I think I will save more in fuel perhaps. The RX8 averages about 18 mpg, worse if you thrash all the time.
  22. Thanks for welcome. Does it need to have had the cambelt done? I couldn't find the 'for sale section' for cars, only parts for some reason.
  23. Thanks. So I don't need a compression test like a rotary? I getting a test drive. It will only do about 10k tops in it's life with me over the next couple years as it's a 2nd car.
