If the general consensus is that the GTR would be worth saving for then I'd happily go down that route. It's hard because non of my mates around here are into cars anymore so there's not much chance of driving any of the cars again for a while.

Christ that thing look's like an animal!! Probably a bit ott for what I'm looking for and I want something with nice clean bodywork etc. Still, cracking motor, look's mental. If I go down the evo route I'd probably buy a fresh import from a dealer on the hope that I'd be covered if the worst did happen, sorry to hear about your mates evo. Storys like that are what keep putting me off. Are the impreza lumps any more reliable? Quite like the old 2 door type r's and the newer type uk (04 plate).

Also, While I agree with this statement do you not think it's possible to get an evo 5/6 running 350 ish BHP and have it be fairly reliable, if well looked after?

RX7 is off the cards as the Mrs doesn't approve unfortunately, she will be helping financially so it's only fair to let her have a say S15 is a possible but I've been on the look out for a nice one for months and not found anything. There's a few 2jz converted silvias on pistonheads at the minute which would be insane but the garage selling them has a really bad rep.

How are you finding yours? Did you go straight from the Z to the GTR? Have you had any problems with it etc.....

Well after another great year owning the Z I've started to catch myself lusting after other cars again. All my big bills for the year have been paid and I'm considering putting the Z up for sale (again) (sorry GM ). If I sell the Z and the ep3 I should have somewhere in the region of £9,000 to spend, obviously I could always wait and save a little more if needed for the right car. It's going to be a bit of a hassle as me and my Mrs both drive our cars daily so if I end up getting something mental we will both need runabouts before I can buy anything. I've been looking at S15 silvias, evo's and at the top of my budget R33 gtr's. The idea is to have one more proper mad motor before saving for a house in the next few years. The mrs is getting her boobs done and I've helped with that so now that's out the way it's her turn to help me buy something I've always wanted . The other half is really into Evo's and at this stage that's got me swaying towards one of them, I've personally always fancied the R33 GTR as my next car. I've drove all three of the car's in the list. The stock Silvia felt kinda slow but was still a great drive, nicer interior than the S14 and lots of tuning potential. The evo I drove was a 6 and running about 370BHP, what a machine, it absolutely flew, the noise, the drama and the shear pace of the thing had me grinning from ear to ear, totally different experience to the Z. Likewise I've drove my mates R33 GTR and that was running 400BHP, again it was rapid but you could feel the extra weight and it wasn't as nice in the corners. Still, it made a beautiful noise and felt more special than the evo, I also preferred the low slung driving position. I know a few people on here have experience with the GTR's but does anyone have any experience with evo's? I've joined the MLR and read through the buyers guides etc. I'm not naive, I realize it's not going to be cheap to run a 350 + BHP evo/skyline. I'm not worried about that, my main concern is reliability and worry's about major engine problems etc, we've all heard the horror story's about evo's and skylines etc. Here's a few of cars that have caught my attention recently, let me know what you think Yellow evo 5 - fresh import. http://www.pistonhea...e/4761082?v=b White evo 4 - fresh import http://www.pistonhea...-iv/5101580?v=b White evo 6 (millage is a little off putting for me) Comes from a good importer tho http://www.pistonhea...015/4765840?v=b R 33 GTR - Fair bit out of my price range but I could find the money if my heart was set on it. http://www.pistonhea...nty/5241336?v=b I keep looking at the Z and feeling bad about letting it go, it's never missed a beat and I'm worried I'll end up regretting it, on the other hand I'm absolutely desperate for a car with boost and have never owned one and know I'll not get the chance once real bills and home ownership comes along. It's a bit of a now or never kind of situation. Anyway, let's say you have £10,000 to spend, has to be turbo, has to be 300 + BHP and has to be jap, what would you go for?

Hows the GTR running then fella? I've been talking to the lads at The GTR shop in the north east about possibly bringing in a fresh import. Was actually about to start my own thread on here about it. I've many questions about the GTR, I have drove a couple and loved them both (hence me wanting to buy one). I'm a bit put off as both lad's I knew who ran them had nothing but problems, both were in the garage waaay more than they were on the road.

Holy grail right there!

Anybody knows this S14a or in general S14a?
nowhereboy replied to Vlad's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Actually that's a lie, I drifted one at teeside. Not sure how I forgot about that. Good fun to drive, running about 300bhp, pretty quick, obviously drifted really easily, much lighter than the Z. It overheated and broke down shortly after my lap. Actually out of the three 200sx's running that day, not one was still working by the end of it. Make of that what you will. -

Well this thread has just inadvertently put me off the 200sx Always fancied one myself, never actually driven one. -
Don't hate the player hate the game

Great numbers. Always been curious what mine is running stock.

Pretty sure this person just wrote my Zed off :(

Not another one! Hope it gets sorted without too much headache. -
Can't wait for the summer to pamper the car, it's crying out for a proper detail but it's pointless right now. Edit - wheey just hit 1000 posts

I got stuck on a hill in the first day of snow, traffic waiting to come past me and now way of getting up the hill. The hill was inclined too so the car slid into the curb and the only way of getting it out was to curb the sh*t out of one of the wheels by reversing back down. Gutted. Add that to the roadworks incident and someone rear ending me recently and it makes for a rather unsuccessful winter this year. Probably should have bought a daily, hey ho......

Personally I'd avoid the wrx, not quick enough. lacks grunt and you'll forever wish you'd bought the STI. Crazy how 2 years ago 6K would get a mint Type UK sti and now you'd need 10K

Crazy. Just do it yourself....

Me too. The Z look's better tho.....
-
Nice! The gunmetal Z's are growing on me now. Who's is the 911?
-
I was going to say the same thing, The RAC checks are a waste of money unless you don't have a clue what you're looking for. It offers zero protection if you buy a lemon too.
-
Not taking any chances this time eh! Nice clean looking Z How come you didn't get a full refund?

So it's time to buy the front tyres and I figured I'd update this thread. In hindsight 45 profile on a 265 seems a bit overkill for the Z, after driving my friends Z with smaller profile tyres I've realized the handling could be better with a lower profile tyre given the width of my wheels. So I'm now thinking about trying eagle f1 245/ 40's on the front as it's time to replace them. I'm still running the 265/45 tyres on the rear. Will it be best to just keep the profile at 45 all around and change next time I need tyres or is it ok to run 45 on the rear and 40 up front?

Still searching. Question about red Zed...

At least you have a garage! My house has a front garden that I've had to use as a makeshift driveway I live in a bad area too, first thing I do every morning is look out the window to make sure the wheels are still on the car . I normally block the Z in the garden with the Type r but that's not much of a deterrent really.

It generally doesn't use any oil in between services and has no issues that I'm aware of, so that's good to know. Might be worth doing a compression check just for some sort of piece of mind. As to who would be fitting the kit, I'm unsure yet, I know I'd save a considerable amount of £££ If it's a DIY job, while I've been getting quite handy with my DIY efforts recently I'm not sure I'd fancy tackling this unless I can get a friend with good knowledge to help. Could really use a ride out in someones Z who has went down this route, I'll have to get myself to some meet's next year!
