Found another thread on here saying that the battery required is a CR1620. I haven't checked mine yet, but I am assuming that they are all probably the same.
-
I know it's just changing a battery and that should be simple enough. But experience has taught me to never take anything for granted. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Guys, Just a quick question. I think the battery may be failing in my ignition key as I have to press to unlock 4/5 times before it does unlock. Is it as simple as just swapping the battery or do I also need to do some reset/reconfigure procedure after? Thanks.

Just been looking at the pics of the car. One caught my eye. It's the one where you can see the interior through the open drivers side door. I note the seats are red, but is it me or are there splatters of red dye on the door sills?

All I will say with regards to chips away is be very careful if you go for their wheel refurbishing service. I had my two front wheels done by them. But rather than take the wheels off, the guy did them in situ, which was fine initially, however on inspecting the wheels once he had gone, I noticed a light spray of paint all over the calipers as he never put anything behind the wheels to protect them. Luckily a few days later a new set of painted calipers were going on so it wasn't so bad. Had that not been happening though, I certainly would of called them and given them an earful.

Cheers for the info. I shall have a look at the build projects mentioned. It's a DE by the way.

Hi All, Was thinking of spray painting the plastic engine cover and battery/brake fluid covers. Just wonder if anyone has done this and what preparation needs to be done. With regards to the plastic engine cover, can I use ordinary spray paint and lacquer on it or do I need specific types since it's an area that gets hot? Thanks.

I live near Glastonbury in Somerset.

The thing is when it comes to engines, I've never in my life attempted anything like this. I mean I've never used a torque wrench for christ sake.
-
There is already a plenum spacer installed on the car as the previous owner had it done. As for what I am painting it with, to be honest I haven't thought that far ahead. It's only recently that I've been reading about painting the plenum so it's early days for me.
-
Just been reading a few posts about painting the plenum and have to admit, it scares the hell out of me. I'm pretty confident when it comes to spraying up pieces of interior trim and things like that, but for me the engine is a big no-no. Exactly how easy is it to remove and replace the plenum? Is it just a case of undoing a few bolts and it simply lifting off? What about when it goes back on? Do you have to ensure that it's bolted to the same tightness all round, using a torque wrench or something? Forgive all the questions, but there is no way I could ever attempt it without knowing everything I need to know. I'd rather leave it to a professional if I am honest, even if it does cost me more.

I would like to do more with the car, but my finances aren't great at the moment as I was laid off just before christmas and money is a bit tight at the moment.

Thanks for the comments. In answer to your question Terry06, no the wheels haven't been refurbed, but I do really want to get them done.

Sorry to hear about your 370Z. It always sucks when I hear about a fellow forum member having their pride and joy damaged. I know how I would feel if it was my 350Z.

Hi Guys, I have just updated my website with a few new pics of the engine bay and interior. Check it out at http://www.siriusprojects.co.uk Cheers.

Hi Guys, Haven't been on the forum much for a few months. Lost my job just before Christmas which really sucked and have been sorting stuff out since then. I was perusing Ebay earlier, looking at listings for 350Z parts and mods and came across a listing for an external air intake duct and it got me thinking about something. My 350Z has a K & N filter fitted and last year I also fitted a radiator shroud. Having seen the listing for an external intake duct, it made me wonder if perhaps fitting the radiator shroud wasn't actually a good idea as I'm effectively closing off a possible avenue for the air into the air filter. As it is there is no direct path for the air into the filter anyway. I'm no expert and my 350Z drives absolutely fine, but would I get a real benefit by fitting an external air duct so that the air flow is directed more precisely into the filter? Thanks.

Yes Gmballistic, one of them would be nice. Lol. I've got the car back and it was indeed the battery. New one has been fitted and all is well.

Well, I had my first issue with my 350 on Tuesday. Left work and got in my car to go home. Turned the key and got only a rapid clicking noise from under the bonnet. Tried it two or three times and the same thing happened. Checked the Battery Gauge and it was reading just over 8 Volts. Think the battery is on it's way out. I bought the car just over a year ago and haven't changed it yet and have no idea how long it had been in there. I did think think that something was up a few days ago. Normally when I turn the key, it fires immediately, but lately, it's ticked over once or twice before firing. Luckily the guys at my regular garage just down the road were available. They attached jump leads to the battery and when I started it, it fired immediately. They also think that it's probably the battery. I have left the car with them and they are going to test the battery and check the rest of the car on Wednesday. Finger crossed that it's just the battery. What do you guys reckon?

Cool, thanks GMballistic. I'll have at look at the links you posted. Much appreciated.

Hi All, Please see the image below. Does anyone know where I can get the lug that fits this hole? Only noticed today that it was missing. Also, I'd like to get hold of a load of the following too. Anyone know where I could get hold of these? Thanks.

My zed was fully serviced a few months ago. The hesitation isn't that pronounced and it does only occur when I am going down hill and not applying any acceleration. I have been on google since starting this thread and read up on engine braking and the descriptions on some sites mirror exactly what happens with my zed so I'm thinking it's nothing to worry about. It has been useful asking about it on the forum though. It's good to get other opinions when your not sure about it yourself. Thanks all for your comments.

Some answers to previous queries. StevoD - I never put ordinary unleaded in my car. I'd only do that if I was low on fuel and couldn't find a garage nearby that did 98 or equivalent. Ekona - The zed is not my first car and all my previous cars have been petrol driven. Been driving since 1990 and no I don't drive any other vehicles. The zed is different to previous cars I have owned in that I've never owned a car where you can plug a device into it which allows you to analyse and alter settings in the ECU (I don't mess with the settings myself by the way, in case your wondering). I've never had a car dyno'd until I got the zed either. In truth I've never been able to afford anything like a zed before in my whole life. It sounds pretty self deprecating, but I wouldn't say I'm a great driver either. I don't mind admitting it. I wish I knew more about the mechanical side and I so wish I could drive it far better than I do.

Hi marzman. No, I had over half a tank of fuel in the car today and the hill in question isn't that steep. I'm running 18" wheels, they are the factory fitted ones that come with a GT4. It's weird though because I swear the car runs better some days than it does others. One day it can be running as sweet as a nut, but the next it can feel quite lumpy. I would also like to say as well that during my time on the forum it has become obvious that many of you are mechanically proficient as well as drivers of cars. Perhaps I am in the minority, but whilst I can drive, I know very little mechanically. Yes, I can check the oil and the coolant levels, etc, but that is the limit of my knowledge. This is perhaps evidenced in the amount of posts I have put on the forum since joining. So whilst any questions posed might seem pretty ridiculous to most of you, they are genuine queries from someone who simply wants to learn more about how things work and the best way of doing that is to ask.
-
Okay, it seems like I'm not quite clued up on these things. My zed has done it since I bought it and I wasn't really that bothered to be honest. I was on my way to work this morning on my normal route which involves going down a hill under a railway bridge and it hesitated a few times and I just thought, sod it, I'm going to ask on the forum and find out what others think. It's not a problem at all on flat roads, it literally only occurs when I'm going downhill.

Can someone explain to me how the engine brake works? I'm sure I read something about it in the 350z user manual. I only ask because when I am driving down a hill, I'm not really applying any acceleration. I just put the car into a low gear and this to a degree maintains a particular speed with me just holding my foot in the same position on the accelerator without applying any pressure. However, in these situations i do feel the car hesitate a few times on a downhill run and i assume it's what is known as the engine brake kicking in, but at the same time I wonder if the hesitation is being caused by some problem or something. Am i right in thinkiing it is the engine brake or could it be something else? Thanks.
