1. My tip would be to use a couple of meters of strimmer cable with the wire taped to it to pass the wire through from the inside of the boot through to the hole where you have popped the numberplate light out of. Oh and also make sure you put it in the correct side of the car for the right view Oh and check and double check the wire you splice into for the live feed
2. The Canary Islands are Tax Free It's purely tax. We are taxed more on fuel in the UK than they are in the Canary Islands. Even mainland Spain is cheaper than UK but purely for the same reason. Although there's been a lot of talk recently about the retailers and refiners not passing on the reduction in prices that they ought to be doing. Of course the government don't care about that because to do so has the likelihood of reducing the tax revenue
3. Damn - I just tried searching again for that build I mentioned but no luck, if you saw that then you would have no indecision the original Datsun white (might have been 'polar white!!') looked stunning. That shell looks in amazing condition hard to believe its as old as it is, bet you breathed a huge sigh of relief Keep the pix coming, if anything for keeping your own record of the rebuild, it will bode well for you in the future. Done properly as you are doing that thing will never owe you anything P.S. If you add me on the FaceBook page have a look in one of my photo albums from Manila Auto Salon,, there's a few pix of a mint white 260Z there you might like to see
4. Thanks for sharing, I love reading these and seeing the progress. I remember a similar build with a white 240 Samurai a few years back with some great pix but cant find any links to it now sadly because it would have inspired you no end to see what you will no doubt achieve after many hours of graft. P.S. Brave man - while I can weild a spanner and tackle most engineering jobs, I don't think I'd have the bottle to tackle that much and those electrics make me feel nausea just looking at them
5. Sorry I can't help, but I can rant This bugs the hell out of me. The other party is lying, as per insurance directions to not admit responsibility. You will be hit with bigger premiums as being partly to blame, instead of the other driver who clearly can't drive properly being hit with bigger premiums. Yes I know it's called spreading the risk but 50/50 claims are not representitive of causality, especially when one side s lying!! It's just pure laziness on behalf of the insurance industry who should be required by law to investigate these things to a greater extent. Especially if a claim of lying is made. There's a whole industry out there of ripping off US yes US the ones who are paying for insurance!! The insurance industry don't care, it's mandatory and we have no real choice but to pay. They don't lose out. The government don't care it's all money in the system as far as they care which is good for the economy, business jobs etc.
6. Kind of exactly. Nisan produced millions of Zeds and there are for many reasons differences in their engines no matter how we'd like to think they all left the factory exactly the same they just don't. It didn't stick each one on a dyno and tweak the mapping because the generic mapping in the ECU and the engine can handle pretty much all those minor differences and also anything you can bolt onto it up to FI, at which point the ECU maps can't compensate. I do know however that when I changed my stupid tiny Apexi for the massive K+N I could feel the engine breathing better
7. I'd say it's a similar thing to when you get your UpRev and have a different map for power and for economy. The power one dumps a little more fuel in to give more bang and the economy runs leaner. The engine is fine doing either of these and they are within it's tolerances, similarly even if the breathing mods exceed the map parameters then it will still run OK just not at optimum.
8. Don't think so yet. At the moment not even available in UK Booooo This would be the perfect accompaniment to my awesome K+N jobbie and I don't expect the US jobbie that comes with it is going to be anywhere near as good Lean on them a bit and see if they will do a deal to sell you just a few of the shields without the filters pleeeeeease http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381443044867?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT #Link to the K+N
9. I think you hit on one of the problems in your title, 'limitations' I seem to remember Mark posted a very informative piece a while ago showing some of the ECU map constraints. I think the parameters within which the ECU can govern mapping aspects are too limited to compensate fully to breathing modifications, I.E. the figures exceed the range of mapped possible target points. I also think it's already proven that if you have a standard, unfettled old engine (which they all are now!!), then it WILL have lost power over it's lifetime, no matter of how well it's been cared for, so that adding basic breathing modifications allows the ECU to alter its settings to a map which will maximise its power by virtue of making it run properly and will therefore actually make a sustained gain in power. I'll link to the article when I have more time later.
10. What's the standard base ignition timing for the early DE's? Early DE's were limited by the restrictive mapping of the 'gentlemen's agreement' between Japanese and German/other Euro manufacturers of keeping power output below 276BHP
11. But this is what I have trouble with, if this amount of airflow is outside the lookup table, limits how does the ECU behave? it cannot change the amount of airflow, but it can change fuel, so does it run things weak because it hasn't got a matching fuel table? or does it simply richen things up excessively, or simply retard ignition timing to reduce overall power? but this if too much could cause knock, I am just not sure how it can limit power from airflow increase, Isn't the throttle electronic and controlled by the ECU? This can regulate the airflow to within maps despite any breathing mods, if the flow exceeds any parameters! - I'm off to the pub
12. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171420338465?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT This is the newest version of mine. This seems an easy patch lead (there are loads on EBay). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-350Z-03-05-ISO-Adaptor-Lead-for-Active-BOSE-System-Wiring-Car-Radio-/131342574503?hash=item1e94a0a3a7:g:g4gAAOSwGWNUW6tr This is similar to the one I used: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replace-Radio-Bose-Adapter-Interface-for-2003-2005-2006-2007-2008-Nissan-350z-/121640457431?hash=item1c525614d7:g:hpsAAMXQVERStlcn
13. You need a Bose interface patch lead (if you have the Bose system) and there's 2 kinds, one for if you also have steering wheel controls and err one if you don't. You also need a 350Z Bose wiring diagram. It's easier than it first looks but can be a bit daunting when you see the pile of wiring you have to deal with
14. Linky no worky, you've parsed the code incorrectly matey. Everyone should have an OBDII reader these days really. With a smartphone, you just need a £10 dongle and some free software and you're sorted. Works OK for me Also worked linking from your quote!! Here it is again - http://www.vi-performance.com/
15. I have one of these http://www.vi-performance.com/ it's connected all the time and it's great
16. I heard somewhere these were difficult to get hold of so you might find this interesting. http://www.rhdjapan.com/arc-oil-catch-tank-z33-vq35de.html I have used these guys for several parts and they're legit' You also have to add around 20% for taxes/import charges.
17.
Squee we have a mutual friend too, then I remembered that he also has a 300zx. I try to limit my Facebook friends to only those I really know in person, and family. There's enough rubbish likes and shares cluttering my news feed as it is. I regularly delete people too if they post up too much junk. Nothing personal lol
You don't have to delete people to not see their postings. On desktop just go to that person's profile and uncheck the 'following' option
18. I'm Richard Baxendell Lots of dodgy posting on my page
19. Well firstly, while I like my music, I'm no hifi buff but it gives a bigger kick in the back than the Bose I also stuck an Hong Kong DDin head unit in which helps. The rest of the system is standard Bose and is adequate for my listening. TBH I'm usually enjoying the engine noise It's a 'vert with K+N popcharger, Berks, S/S Y Pipe and Top Gear Tuning Mid Pipe and Back Box, you Coupe lot dunno what you're missing
20. Big and blue would be my choice, but I'm always a bit 'left field' though trend tends to catch me up eventually
21. It's probs the clockspring thingy inside the steering wheel
