  1. v nice, but rear plate is wonky!
  2. cant wait for the next instalment, what with project binky and bizz's drift car these are heady days for the armchair car builder!
  3. NIce! But it looks like you have the same gardener as me!
  4. thanks alex I was just trying to work out how many times you'd have to turn the engine over in order to get the timing marks back in line with number 1 cylinder at TDC (compression) - turns out its quite a lot! This confused/worried me when I was doing the job as I thought the timing was going "out" after I had turned the engine over - which didnt make any sense.
  5. Does anyone happen to know this, also the number of teeth on the crank sprocket? - Just trying to solve a little puzzle I encountered when refitting the timing chain on my engine.
  6. Discovered lift-off oversteer during a spirited run over the blubberhouses pass (A59) in my lovely alfasud 1.3ti - back end came round, ns rear wheel hit the kerb and smashed the disc off the hub and the car ended up against the barrier, which I'm quite glad was there! Other damage was a buckled wheel and nsf wing, oh, and a bit of pride! I changed the wheel and removed the disc and got home ok!
  7. This looks interesting - thanks for posting!
  8. ha, they are local to me and I test drove a 350z of theirs - sounded awesome with a powerflow exhaust, but I got the impression they would not be easy to deal with. Now called motorhub and based in an old multi-storey cp in keighley - lots of exotic metal
  9. Dont be put off, it will be great and if you can do bits of servicing and maintenance yourself you will save a fortune, especially if you can can get a zeditus jab. Mine is bone stock and I love it. Have you thought about a cat D or C if you're on a budget? Mine was cat C due as both front wings were damaged.
  10. great stuff - thanks for taking the time to post all this
  11. thanks for this - really interesting and i hope you've sorted your oil leak out (mine was a right pain)
  12. So you are saying the bite point will always be the same regardless of wear. So the fact the bite point is the very last of pedal travel shouldn't be a concern? I cant see why it would change - when I first got mine the bite point was very high and I hated it, just could not drive it smoothly, then I found the "adjusting the clutch" thread, spent an uncomfortable half hour on my back under the pedals, adjusted it down quiet a bit and now its like a different car!
  13. I too would buy a porsche if I had the money - a carrera 2 993 if youre interested, but I do love the 350 and I really like the fact that its a nissan (which has a fantastic motorsport heritage) and hardly anyone else apart from GT4 gamers know what it is! When I was little I always loved the 240z too and its funny wheel trims, but I was a little disappointed by the 120y! Interestingly, at least one person I know tries to put the Z down by calling it a Datsun! I dont respond
  14. any videos of it running? i dont have 10 grand, just interested!
  15. I'm just a bit confused by this - the position of the pedal is governed by the adjusting nut, so it can be made as high or as low as you like (and this affects where you perceive the biting point to be as a result). The mechanism itself is hydraulic and so self adjusting, so once you have set your pedal (and therefore biting point) it should not change as the mechanism takes up any wear of the clutch plate???
  16. I just found the thread you were talking about, it appears near £1k is with a new DMF as well which makes sense. Hmm, thats putting me off! With new front discs/pads and clutch/dmf, that puts the purchase price up near £9k plus the tax, which of course is on par with buying any car, but its still something I will have to pay for within 4 weeks. hmmmm The high clutch isnt necessarily a sign of a worn out clutch - most 350z seem to be like this from the factory and there is a thread on here on how to adjust the height of it. Lots of people have lowered their clutches inc me - very effective as it was very difficult to drive smoothly before.
  17. Just paid £58 for an ac delco one - looked like the original one that came out (lots of japanese on it), if so that makes it about 8 1/2 years old!
  18. Quick update - oil leak fixed!!! plus other problems sorted whilst I was in there - - heater hose was clamped to heater inlet with a large cable tie!! even though the metal clip was still around the hose (just restricting the flow as it wasnt clamping to anything!) - hole in coolant hose end, leaking so I just shortened the hose by about 10mm, cutting out the hole thats it, car is running great (touch wood)
  19. I've thought about doing this - a friend and I hired a caterham 7 from Roadsport Hire near York and had a blast - 200+ miles all around the North York moors. It cost £180 + a tank of fuel , 120 inclusive miles and 60p/mile after that. The couple who owned the car (who also had a SV 7 and a boxster for hire) were great and we spent some time chatting about the business. They were giving it up as it was too tying during holidays and weekends. They mentioned that there were only 2 (may have been 1) insurance companies that would cover them.
