Arb's changed my 350 way more than coilovers did, made the car far more precise, so it would definitely be on the to do list if i were you. I had BC's and couldnt fault them one bit, i dont think you would be unhappy with either choice to be honest.

I have had my eye on gtr's for a while now and appreciate its not a cheap car to run, but then its £40k for a good one and if anyone has £40k to spend on car, i would like to think they can afford the up keep, even if it is a bit more than another £40k car. Current prices are just insane, whichever way I look at it i just cant get my head around it, i appreciate Porsche are the cream of the bunch and a very very nice place to be inside and technologically right up there, but a good spec top of the line Cayman is £70k plus, thats an awful lot of dosh for a 4 pot turbo, but then a Civic Type R is probably £40k with a decent spec, maybe i am just old So regardless of my views of cost, i reckon there is definitely a place in the market for stuff like the A110 and 4C, personally would much prefer to see either of those driving past me than another Cayman or Boxster and no matter how good or how much better either of those two are, not everyone wants a Porsche, great to have the choice really

You know what makes me curious about this thread, how come you have suddenly started writing in "scottish" is it cool these days "innit"
-
Looks a cracking little car, cant wait to see one in the flesh, but as per my new car prices thread, how on earth does a 4 pot 1.8 turbo end up with a price tag of £50k plus, at least the 4c is a carbon tub and under a ton, not even Lotus are managing that these days.

Not a lot But Nissan are doing some clever marketing it would seem

I was lucky enough that a friend invited me to a Porsche Experience day at Silverstone yesterday, you could pick your car so i went for a 718 Cayman GTS, i have to say it was very impressive and personally didnt think it sounded too bad at all which is often its main criticism, but the one i was in with options was £75k +, seems an awful lot of money for a 4 pot turbo imho and not even suggesting its unique to Porsche, £45k for a pretty basic Lotus Elise, GTR's at £82k, has it all gone mad??

So out of curiosity as youve obviously given it some thought, whats your prediction of where the 370z will end up at its bottom value?

Always like to do an advanced search on ebay which gives some indication of sale prices, they regularly go for £40k plus, silly silly money. A great story about Escorts, i had a mate with a MK1 RS1600, he went to the local scrappy to get a propshaft, now bear in mind he had a foul temper, got home, put the car on axle stands and disappeared underneath, after lots of swearing he returned from under the car with said propshaft, put in every panel, every light and every bit of glass and called the scrappy to take it away, they had given him the wrong shaft. Sounds tragic today, but it was worth nothing back then.

Cosworth as a company has huge heritage though, F1, WRC, Indy Car, Touring car etc, whilst they may not have done that well with Sierras & Escorts in WRC, the name is highly regarded and internationally recognised for engine building, i would suspect thats where their value lies along with very limit numbers. Vaild point however thats its not always good cars that rocket in value. I dont necessarily agree about Japanese cars though, look at Hakosukas, what are they now, quarter of a million? gtrs in general to be fair are all on the rise and r34's are ridiculous money, toyota 2000gt, nsx, supras, ae86, even the good old 240 are worth a pretty penny and cost way more than the they are worth on merit as a car. I would love an Nsx, but not a chance i would give £40-£50k plus for one.

Looks infinitely better than their MotoGp effort, i do hope they dont put aero on road bikes

Whilst it may just be circumspect and not relevant, this type of conversation went on many times when i was into Rx7 ownership, i bet it probably happens on the Celica forum. Owners questioning why prices are low, surely they will go up soon, surely they wont get any lower, surely they should be worth more etc etc The depreciation curve on any run of the mill car is roughly the same, the question of where does it bottom out is also roughly the same, a car often doesnt slide to less than the sum of its parts if broken. Rx7's hit their bottom and are now on their way up, similar age to Codels Celica which is also on a steady increase. Rx7's were 1992, similar to the Celica so the 350 at 10 years never has a good few years left to go if its to follow the patterns, but Codel is on the money, it wont be anytime soon, but i dont think it will go much lower as its value has almost reached parity with the sum of its parts. To distract away even more, the Celica is an interesting example as you say, old, rare and has history, everything you think would suggest values to go nuts, but, it wasnt actually that good in comparison to what else was available, it only ever won one wrc series, of course thats only my opinion and not meaning to insight riots, i know it was just a little earlier, but look at the values of Intergrales and they have been pricey for years.

Fill your boots, its all explained below: https://www.hpi.co.uk/content/advice-and-tips/car-depreciation-residuals-explained-2/

Advertised prices and sold prices are two completely different animals.
-
Near identical spec to the one i had, i can safely say you would not regret it one bit and probably save to say if you look after it, you wont do your nut on depreciation

Nothing quite like sitting in the luxury of a 350z with two massive slabs of plastic in front of the driver and passenger, two massive slabs of textured plastic for door cards and handles if you look in the rear view mirror, more textured plastic, at least they thought of adding some knobbles to plastic on the centre consul and gear surround, classy those Japanese

A good point made in reference to me today regarding this topic which probably hasnt helped 2nd values is that they are punting Nismos out at £30k odd and seem to remember another fella looking at buying a new 370z at £23k with discounts and dealer contributions and suitably low apr, hopefully that might give you some more insight op.

I said it was far superior and to me if better in every measurable way, thats far superior, doesnt mean i want to own one though. Pinning it down to single lap times is just one dimension, it does not mean the chassis, gearbox, engine etc isnt better, you are just comparing a time, nothing with regards to how it may feel in steering, a slick gearbox and silky smooth engine, least of all interior quality. I would like to bet your average handy driver would find the m3 easier to drive near the limit and therefore quicker because of the confidence it inspires. If you want lap times, get an elise, vx220, caterham, atom etc, in no shape or form does it make them a better car than a 350z or m3, just quicker round a track.
-
Absolutely fair comment, it is an opinion, but its an opinion supported by a long history of factual statistics and market values/trends thats available to us all to see with nothing to suggest otherwise, youve already been surprised in your own words (hence the thread about prices tanking), maybe its all worth a 2nd thought rather than be surprised again.
-
Davey we are not discussing new values, we are discussing trends in values and what makes a car depreciate and appreciate and there is nothing to suggest a 370z wont depreciate to current 350 values, as said elsewhere, its a mass produced japanese car with no outstanding features or following and that is what drives the market (see m3), not what came before it and its respective values. Its fairly clear neither you or hrab want to accept some good examples of history or any supporting facts so little point going round in circles.
-
No i am just looking at the history of pricing over many models and given examples as has Doc (s13 to s14), there is absolutely no reason to think the 370z is going to completely defy this, its nothing special, sorry. In your opinion, as obviously the majority think it is, which is all thats important with regards to values, as even the cheapest is at least twice the price of what you can get a 350z for of the same age and in some cases 5 times +, when not so long ago it was only a couple of grand away if not less. Enough from me on the subject
-
Better engine, gearbox, chassis, interior, trim Beaten to it

Ive agreed with you dude, an M3 was in budget but i wanted a 350 (i am that man you describe), but no matter the romantic ideal of wanting a lesser car imho more characterful, i thought my my 350s were a pleasure to own, you cannot escape the facts and you only have to look at M3 prices now, opinions of being visually lost on the road has absolutely zero bearing on current prices or demand, surely that is clear, argue the merits of each car all day if you like and they were direct competition by the way but thats a completely different topic. We are talking values and demand and its clear because of the M3's prices in comparison to either z where that demand lies, there is no speculation, it is just the case plain and simple. Or lets ask another question, is there any Nissan Z car worth more than its counterpart M series? I will save you the time, No. Hrab you are right, there is always an exception to the rule, NSX is a good example, low sales but now an appreciating classic and i shall choose my words carefully, if you honestly think the 370z has the merit of the NSX to break the rules, go buy a few and see how you get on in a few years. Regarding the HR, it is the best and last incarnation, thats where its value lies, same as the Spirit R Rx7.

Sorry Davey, you are totally clutching at straws if you think the 350 had anything to do with a new gtr being released. When i was looking for my first 350 a few years back an e46 m3 was in budget, it wasnt that far away in price, a couple of grand, but i really didnt want one and here is the kicker though, you have to be put emotion aside. A quick look on ph shows the cheapest e46 m3 at £8k (twice what you can get a 350z for), others at £20k +, thats 02/03 cars, when did you last see a 350z at £20k. E92 m3 prices havent really moved for a couple of years at £14k, they have reached the bottom of their depreciation curve and perhaps another insight into why there is no reason a 350z wont be worth more than a 370z in the future seeing as e46 m3 can cost more. As per the op's thread, 370z prices are still falling, sorry dude, that tells you all you need to know about the way its heading.
