It does have windows 8 installed. I got the product key from Belarc, went to Microsoft to download the image and burn ISO to DVD, however, I got a rude message saying, "your product key can't be used to install a retail version of windows 8", please **** off and buy a new one. Thanks Bill. Naturally I'm not impressed, my mate has bought legit windows 8 laptop and they give you no install disc and no recourse to download and make your own, plus an entirely useless recovery process. If I was a total novice, this would be an even bigger nightmare. As you said, it will probably have to be a clone job, then reinstall from partition. I don't like to clone partitioned drives in case of any misalignment. I'm sending him off to PC World tomorrow to try and blag a retail disc, unlikely as that may be, failing that call Microshaft and have a whinge on the phone and see what they'll do. If that doesn't work, I'll install Mountain Lion whilst he's not looking and run off. I can burn a install disk from that in about 15 minutes, with zero dicking about with product keys. I get that digital downloads are the future of all software but there's no need to not give out a £1 DVD with the OS on when you buy a laptop/pc, or allow you to make one. Clonezilla here I come.

Nice one Madhatter. I ordered the rubber tape before seeing this, but if that fails ill try the sticky back foam. Ta

I'm swapping out the HDD on a mate's ACER Aspire V5 for an SSD this weekend. Done this before on my old Dell, simples. The only question I have is about creating a Windows 8 install ISO. I'd rather not clone the HDD straight onto the SSD, I prefer a clean Windows 8 install. However, in the olden days, this used to be easy as they threw in a CD/DVD copy of the OS when you spent £1000 on a new laptop. Clearly manufacturers can't afford to do that these days and you get a recovery partition instead. (Can anyone explain what use they are if your HDD catastrophically fails? sorry off topic already!) Anyone know if you can burn a Windows 8 CD/DVD from within dirty Windows 8 like you can on my beautiful OSX Moutain Lion iMac? Ta.

I quite like those helimeddaz, the lip especially. I'll have a think tonight and see what I fancy. Thanks for the pics, they look good.
-
Yeah you're right Wasso, the photo was for my original enquiry for one of the 50 Shades of Shadow Chrome, he had those in so gave me a bell to have a look. Didn't see the anthracite or bronze in there today. I'm a little concerned something too dark will make the wheels look tiny. I quite liked that finish but I'm not paying that price.
-
Yeah, for the dip I think. TBH I was quite pleased with the revised £360 and putting the new rubber on too (I realise it takes no extra effort), given nowhere else will give me a courtesy car or wheels, whilst it's being done. It'd cost me a few quid for a rental or taxi commute, so that makes a big differnece to me. I'm not worried about the work, the stuff they did before is good quality. Went to another place, they wanted £380, no courtesy car. They also ran this place down a bit, which I always think is a bit unprofessional IMHO.

Thanks for all the feedback and links, really given me something to think about. This is what was what it would look like, but obviously on Rays. Damn, I actually quite like those wheels too!
-
Just been to have a look, really rice finish on some M5 wheels. Liked it. Moaned about price and he said its a 3 stage finish and that's why £600. However could do anthracite or a deep bronze for £370 including fitting some tyres I may get delivered there. Courtesy car too. All of a sudden seems like a good deal!! Think either anthracite or bronze would actually be quite nice on a GM.

I'm in Blackpool so it's usually cheap up here. This lot did do me two panel resprays and some corrosion repair and some bump removal for £450, which I thought was bargain prices TBF. Was a little shocked at £600, even with a paint finish instead of powder. Thanks for the fast responses gang, I'm supposed to be there in 30 to have a look at the colour.
-
Just a quick sounding out hopefully. Had a quote for my Rays to be acid dipped, corrosion & kerbing all sorted and painted in a dark chrome variant. £600. Seems high to me, but I have no experience in this area at all. I had a similar job quoted with a powder coat finish for £400. Thoughts on these prices anyone?

Must admit I have a powered lead from stereo into the sat mac cubby, but I got one of these for rear lighter in case I want to charge iPad at the same time.
-
Could you not take electricity from the phone cradle that sits in the little central rear cubby thing? (No idea what it's called). I keep looking at mine and wondering what to do with it.

Changed the plan to some sort of self-adhesive 32mm x 6mm neoprene strip, assuming it's not a total omnishambles from e-bay, I'll gladly punt the remaining 9.5 meters (must allow for repeated ****-ups) on to anyone who wants, gratis.

Weird madhatter, I was just thinking about this to give my boot release a little boost and protect the paint. Did a quick look for these on the 3M website, found some promising items in the "bumpon" section, but they come in packs of 3000! Anyone want 2998, 50p each. ;-)

Nice service. If the reception girl was hot, then you simply can't ask or anything else. Why isn't everything like this?

Hi from the West coast of Scotland
Stutopia replied to Pazza68's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
can't believe how sunny it seems to be everywhere up there! I saw the sun 4 times in 6 years in Edinburgh. -
Jesus! Someone came and put the orange reflectors back on! That's out of order.

Some people have no souls. You can only hope they get home to find cockroaches have moved into their house and started breeding.

Looks immense. I always fancied myself as a driver from hours of karting as a youth, but it looks SO much more serious in a proper car. Good minerals IMHO just for getting out there with even the THREAT of ice!
-
Don't fancy the winters, what about some chains? ;-)
-
+1 for lubing up tried this today and she's already much easier to slip in and out

Cheers David, that's exactly the kind of encouragement I need!! Anyway, got there in the end, minor damage nicely hidden and shouldn't cause any major future problems. I don't see any reason why that brake light should ever be touched again. Also, in my defence, it wasn't my fault the stupid bolt was being a pri*k, although some of the damage cutting the head off could have been avoided by someone with a longer temper! I've learnt another lesson too, always allow for 3 times as much day light time as you predict for any job. If my short comings, plus Alex's excellent solution help just one person who this happens to, it's all worth it. Anyone want to buy some pre-facelift brake light clusters, only minor damage....

Just a couple of little things this weekend, plastidipped my driver's door armrest bit, as it was scratched to death. Before, uurrrggh After, yay Having done that, I've marked the swine already. Can you lacquer over plastidip to toughen it up? If so, how do you make it matte finish? Nice easy one here, popped my cargo in. Facelift LEDs brake lights in too. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/69206-please-help-bolt-stuck/
