I am currently working for a large organisation with key worker status, current advice is that if we MUST go in the office, don't sit in your usual areas, dotted all over the place, we should sit together to make it easier for cleaners to clean. I can't begin to state how ridiculous this is, the solution is to give people some wipes when they go in and when they go out (I carry my own anyway) and sit as FAR AWAY from each other as is possible, not bunch up. We're our own worst enemy most of the time. I'll be sitting where I feel sufficiently distanced and I clean up before I sit down and after I finish.

Day 2 of beefing up at home with Arnold Schwarzenegger - no discernible improvements, some aching. Expecting big things on Day 3.

What's important is making sure I'm ok, my wellness, my physical health, my mental health, my image online, my image IRL, my mad stacks, my career, my overstocked freezer, my bog roll. my feelings, my opinions are as valid as your facts. If you don't have the things I do, you're stupid or a loser or lazy and you certainly don't deserve my help - my time and energy is too precious for that. In a way, we're victims of our own success. We've conquered so many obstacles, for so many of the developed countries, that we've forgotten what it took to get here; education, cooperation, empathy, relying on the person next to you and them relying on you. Everyone for themselves, until it goes wrong, then it's your fault, you didn't tell me that, your advice, your mistake. This might teach us some humility, but I doubt it.

People are generally reasonable, but the public are generally stupid. No doubt their excuse will be the press/media/Facebook/TikTok/not being breastfed/Daddie's online poker addiction/violent video games made me do it.

Just because there’s rubbish in the press, people don’t HAVE to do stupid things. The breakdown in personal responsibly is the heart of this (as with many other problems we see) because of excuse culture. There was people freaking out last week that there was no advice, entirely unable to function without someone giving them an instruction, when all you need to do was spend 10 minutes reading to get a very basic grip of how to behave. It’s not restricted to Corona, it’s not even down to the press or social media or Brexit or the Left or the Right. It’s something we’ve been working on for quite some time.

Talk us through the measured response then.

May as well not have any health care at all and just accept death is inevitable. No one is questioning the sensationalism but it can be sensational and a threat, they’re not mutually exclusive.

Nothing for certain, I've got a mate who's family are 'flu like' and are doing the sensible thing. Astonishing read that, thanks (I think!) for sharing it. I wouldn’t be in a position to question a word of it, but if I would challenge a bit, it’s this last one. Why is it that Russia has 59 cases IN TOTAL and we had 342 new ones yesterday? I think it’s because your Rooskie has got the appetite to do something about it and we’re (politically) too worried about people having tantrums if they get told what to do and having hurt feelings.

I don’t think you can put the international travel genie back in the bottle, its just an accepted thing now. Nor should we, the benefits are huge (economically and culturally). Though there were no jumbo jets in 1918, it still spread around a bit. Same on the trade thing, so long as its dirt cheap to get stuff made there (therefore dirt cheap to consumers) it wont change. No one buys more expensive things on the off chance it will provide ongoing support to continue methods of production in local areas, in case they’re needed during a pandemic. That kind of long termism needs to be dictated by the state. We’ve collectively pooed our pants over scares on bog roll, which isn’t even essential (in the most severe sense of the word) and is the worst possible reaction. You mention other recent things like SARS, bird flu, MERS - I believe these have come over from animal contact - I’d start looking at places where its more common to keep animals alive for sale to the public. Who needs a full live chicken to buy down the shops? When you can get one packaged up with all the unnecessary bits removed somewhere where there’s half a chance of enforcing hygiene standards. Also, we find it a bit “queasy” in the West imposing restrictions on people’s movement etc in case they get hurt feelings, but evidence suggests that since China pushed the panic button, its had a significant impact https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/07/world/asia/china-coronavirus-cost.html Big Don had it down as a Democrat hoax last week, he’s declared a national emergency and $55bn fund today. That sort of attitude scares me more than flu.

It's easy to dismiss it as panic, but Spanish flu was running around 2-3% mortality and took out 20-50 million people. Yeah we've moved on a helluva lot since then but I wouldn't feel great about getting it, feeling awful, recovering ok, but having spread to a neighbour or relative in their 70s. If it was as easy as deciding those with the best chance of survival should get and the the others shouldn't, there'd be no fatalities.

Gonna do a sacrifice. Need accelerant.
