  1. After my HFCs went on I took her for a rare drive with the stereo off to hear the new sound. I noticed there's a high pitched whine from the rear which matches exactly to engine RPM, upto about 3k then exhaust covers it up. It's tricky to investigate single handed as you can't hear it at idle, but the other day she was cold and idling at over 1k and I got a chance to have a listen. Seems to be coming from rear left speaker only, whose cable coincidentally runs alongside the reverse cam signal and video leads I popped in recently. Given the match to engine revs, the rev cam install and it being one speaker only, I'm assuming it's alternator whine, interfering with speaker cable. I changed the grounding point for the cam, with no improvement. I really don't want to have to upgrade the cam wires to shielded, as routing them was a PITA. Lesson learned for future though. Anyone had similar and solved? Is it possible to shield the cables with something like aluminium foil or tape? Is there something else it might be? Any ideas would be appreciated. Ta.
  2. Nice one! I get about 10 down and 3 up on my 3G phone. Where on earth are you?
  3. Looks good and glad you're pleased with results. I like your badges. Got a link by any chance?
  4. Sounds cool. I'm in Brum for the next 5 weeks for work. I'll do some painstaking research on the drinking establishments and eateries, every night if I have to.
  5. What's the winter tyre of choice round here? I've read good stuff on the Alpinas PA4s, Goodyear Ultragrip 8s, Continental Winter Contacts and surprisingly (to me) the Nokian WR A3s. What I fear in winter isn't so much the crisp snow, it's that slushy, icy build up crap that sometimes appears in patches/pools and leads to a sort of wintery aquaplane.
  6. Thanks mate, I`m very pleased with them and relatively good value as well. They`re not the sturdiest things I've ever seen, but stood up fine so far and clear even the most aggressive speed bumps! http://www.aerokit.e...?product_id=110 Not so sure about the purported aero gains and seconds per lap claimed in the description
  7. Totally understand that, I was the same until I saw these from RT. They're so much better than my stock ones were, the finish is superb and solid. However, I won't be going with any more CF, in or out. I've just found a place nearby who do special things with interiors , just need some time to go see them and get some price ideas.
  8. Eibach ARBs and/or humpy bonnet would be tempting.
  9. I never ran AC all the time until I came here, but as per SMD above, it takes care of steam and smells. It fogs like a mother if the re-circ is on.
  10. Not shown up for a good while now, including the forces of the trackday. Must be fixed FOREVER!
  11. Thanks mate. No pictures with the door shut, but given their location, you can barely see them. I'll see what I can do tomorrow. Just the plain black offering from plastidip. It needs something on top of it though, like lacquer or similar, as it's too soft on its own in a high traffic area like the door pulls. Mine quickly marked, so I've replaced them. I'm actually having a bash at wrapping my spare door pulls tomorrow in hexis cf. Never done it before, wanted to try, I'm quite sure it'll be a PITA. Never noticed I don't have a full pic on the build! I'm a bit of a tart though, you can see some here on page 7. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/36073-show-off-your-gunmetal-350z/page__st__120
  12. This is the shadow chrome I was after, you'll recognise it from Beamers all over. The reason he gave me a big price was it was a multi coat and colour, paint only finish, to get it as per BMW quality. These are some BMW wheels he happened to have in and he offered up to the car. I very nearly went for these and had the wheels off him too. Another, darker, take on shadow chrome here. There are many variations. But then I got over shadow chrome and got into Formula Silver. But then I had a cobalt phase Followed by a bronze phase, I really liked this, but was worried it might end up gold and look like a wannabe scooby. Then I flirted with red, but once I got about half way through mocking up the pic, I decided I didn't like it, so not a great job on this pic. Part of me wishes I was brave enough to go for the cobalt, I think that would rule, but I think I'm getting too Danny Glover, too old for that @*!#.
  13. I wanted shadow chrome, the price I got was mental. Maybe you can get a good one?
  14. Good work, look much better. They a tight fit? You don't want them vibrating/resonating.
  15. I was looking at Red as I think that could look really nice as well. Has anyone got any pictures of GM with Red wheels by any chance?? I think I mocked one up when I was considering. I'll try and dig it out tonight.
  16. Shhhhhh! The Shark will hear you. With 4 seats it's technically a practical daily driver. Keep me posted.
  17. Nice! They like to cram them in don't they? Having seen another up close this weekend my crush on the XKR is getting out of control.
  18. Thanks fellas, I'm very pleased with the strut now. Great news on the sound Matt, I need to get out and put some miles on her!
  19. I nearly bought winter wheels and tyres (I know they're not just for snow, it's cold too), still toying with getting a sensible scooby for winter, then track it in summer! I'll defoneed 4WD for the two days of snow here In the end I just realised a pair of socks in the boot will do for emergencies. If it's snowy when I wake up in the morning, get a taxi or rent any car. Rentals handle beautifully in snow either way it's cheaper than the initial outlay for wheels and tyres. Unless it snows for weeks!
  20. I went for a chrome effect after agonising about it in photoshop. As post above, I felt darker colours can get lost in there on a GM. I very nearly went cobalt! It's a very personal thing though, there are no wrong answers. Except GREEN
  21. Saw this just now http://mobile.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=785476&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=13p12-1
  22. This feels weird, shouldn't you be commenting on this thread SMD, with something along the lines of, "Stop cleaning it and take it out for a drive"? Looks shiny.
  23. Hope it's better than global hyper colour shirt I had as a kid, only lasted a few washes
  24. Mask off the wheels and valves, then spray the caps. Sorted.
