  1. Is the high price because it's the only purple zed out there?
  2. Thanks all for your input, I got out the office early today to have a play in store and walked out with a Canon EOS 700D with the kit lens *shameface* and a 50mm f/1.8. They'll do for learning the buttons and playing with manual controls. All your input, whilst not necessarily followed (sorry), has been invaluable and has already given me an upgrade path. Also some of the pics you have posted have been top. Thanks! Just need some sunshine, a detailed Zed and something pretty to stick behind it. PS - why do they make you charge the batteries first grrrrrrrrrrrr. It's just sitting there waiting for me...
  3. Some really nice ones there mate, but I can't help feeling it's irresponsible letting your child play with a BEAR and anyone who's seen Holy Grail knows the dangers of rabbits :scare:
  4. If it hasn't got mud on it, be scared of 4x4 style vehicles.
  5. Also the gas some people release from thier *** can be part methane, flammable and a clear hazard. When the fart ban eventually comes in it'll be hilarious watching people police it.
  6. The have shops in France that only sell e-cig and not the tobacco type. I use one of those here in sunny England, in fact, I think there's a few
  7. Just because the ingredients are safe, doesn't necessarily mean the end product is. One can make all kinds of explosives using simple household items. -Tyler Durden
  8. The French are planning on banning them from public places ***I believe*** but they seem to be doing so on the basis that it makes it harder to spot people having a crafty (and illegal) fag indoors when others are vaping around them. They've also got this new sledgehammer they bought and need to open a walnut.
  9. It will be interesting to see what research pops up in the next few years (as opposed to people 'viewing it' in a certain way. It certainly crossed my mind, but when you think about the content of smoke and it's 100s of toxins, as opposed to vapour, I find it hard to believe it will turn out worse. As you rightly say though, there's a shortage of evidence, particularly the impartial kind.
  10. Can't I just still enjoy the act, but without, you know, the tar and formaldehyde and carbon monoxide? What's the harm? Best of all it p¡sses off and confuses people who don't like e-cigs, as you still get the pleasure but they have no footing to harass you about your self harm like they could with your Marlboros. It's win win. If they knocked out a Mars bar tomorrow which tasted better, but was high in fibre, zero fat, reduced your bad cholesterol, sugar free, choc full o' vitamins, improved your sex-life, ended world poverty and was better for you than a jog followed by an organic pulse stew with a rub down by a gang of playboy bunnies. There'd still be people moaning about kids eating Mars bars for breakfast
  11. It's wasn't the morning coffee one, it's the after a good meal one I missed when I went turkey about 6 months ago. GM I think the starter kit was about £30, so even if it doesn't suit, it's not cost you much to try. If you get to Day 4, you're up on the deal.
  12. Tornado V3 from the totally wicked crowd. Selected on account of it's cheapness and immediate availability, but it does the trick. Even if you spend £100 it'll pay for itself very quickly v smokes.
  13. Pan FTW, I think you pay more attention in the pan and that reduces the risk of them going critical, microwaves wants to heat everything to a million degrees. HP are the best BTW
  14. Just coming up on a month, bought one on a whim. Naturally you save a fortune v fags and the smell (or lack) of is a winner. The bakky flavoured ones I find minging but quite like blueberry and blackcurrant, menthol is fine too. Not trying to quit, just caught myself wheezing once and thought I'd try the switch and see how I felt, been easy so far and throat feels better. See how dropping down a strength level goes next bottle, I guess I'll try and work down to the nicotine free ones if it doesn't bother me going down a step. I have quit in the past but missed the extra breaks from the office and chatting to folk outside, less so in winter though Once the initial novelty wore off, I find I used it a bit more frequently, but for less time, per 'fag'. It was really good on my recent road trip to Barca, no need to pull over for a wheeze and it leaves a faintly sweet mist in the car. In fact on more than one occasion I was ordered to fire it up as a beery gust had emanated from the rear passenger and was making our eyeballs burn.
  15. People keep mentioning the Tamron lenses, so I'll keep them in mind. The nifty fifty also seems to be a favourite, so that's logged too. Excuse the noobish question, but I am assuming (do correct me) that these 3rd party lenses are fully friendly with the canon bodies, in terms of compatibility of auto focus and including image stabilisation and whatever else they do when they're strapped on?
  16. Loving all the shots people are posting. I'm going Canon. No wait.
  17. I'm happy enough to buy the "good lens" straight off the bat, it's an option to go body only and pick up a lens of choice at the initial purchase, but I was expecting to be told to get used to the camera with the kit lens before changing. Which some have also said in fairness. Dblock I understand your solid reasoning on going second hand but I'll be buying the body new, simply because of my relative inexperience and if I went second and picked a lemon, I'd kick myself for having no comeback at the store/manufacturer. I can see myself considering second hand lenses in future though, once I've found my feet. Generally speaking, it seems to be a topic which is even more subjective than cars and just as emotive! I browsed some photography forums first, but I wasn't massively enthralled, bit too much detail for my level and a lot of Team Nikon v Team Canon stuff. Thanks for your comments, I've got some things to think about.
  18. Once high speed wireless connections really arrive and take off, landlines and being a slave to BT will become a thing of the past.
  19. Funny you should mention the flip out screen DoogyRev, it's actual quite an attraction, I like a low shot so it'd be a big help for that, as well as shooting movies. The wifi doesn't float my boat really, an SDHC will go straight into my iMac. Not sure if that'll be quicker or slower transfer rates than wifi, but it's not a massive factor unless I'm shifting hundreds of photos. Beaming them directly to a tablet or phone might be kinda cool though.
  20. Dblock, the 50mm f1.8 has been recommended to me before, as you suggest it's rated as delivering excellent bang for buck. It's one of the reasons I started thinking about canon as I kind of leaned toward Nikon previously. As you say, it seems to be one of those Mac v Windows, Apple v Android, Sega v Nintendo type rivalries that polarises groups of people. I don't take many indoor shots so I'm hopeful low light won't be an issue, at least initially. Dan, I do believe these will both be decent entryish level camera body's, as you rightly say, I have indeed been agonising over the detail. The Nikon's pixel count and onboard GPS are attractive. I often jump out the car on a road trip, take a snap and then don't know where it was! Just somewhere between A and B. I try and take a quick iPhone pic now as well, so I get the geo tag from there later. However, 99% of all my photos are viewed on iPad or iMac so the pixel count of the Nikon isn't a massive factor, unless it gets to hardcore cropping down. I have a little experience with the D3100 and I found the menus a bit tricky, some stuff just seems to be hidden away sometimes. The touchscreen on the canon might be a factor. I'll bear that in mind ioneabee and 350zedd it's good to hear some love for the 18-140mm. Cheers all, you've confirmed I'm at least on the right track and not about to drop an expensive nut. Plus no one has said, they're not happy with the manufacturer they've chosen, which is also good to hear. I've also ot a bit of guerrilla movie bug to scratch too, I know you can't beat a dedicated video camera but I can't justify that expense so I'm hopeful I can accessorise whichever DSLR I go for, to shoot some nice looking HD footage.
