Please Help: 350Z HR Very High Idle after Changing Gallery Gaskets
Stutopia replied to VoodooBoot's topic in Servicing
Tough one this, my first thoughts were moving the throttle with the battery connected and vacuum leak, but you've already covered those. Hopefully someone more technical will be along shortly. Good luck. You could try giving H-dev a bell. -

Cheers mate. I disregarded the supplied sponge, it just felt too harsh. Used a Megs microfibre applicator instead, as it is so soft, but it does take a lot of product, I'll try a small cell soft foam one next time. I might even do one panel and leave it ages (like 15 mins), just to see what difference that makes. I never normally use wax these days, too much effort compared to a spritz with an Si LSP to top up the protection, but I must admit that carnumba leaves a gloss like no other product. The beads in this morning's dew were at least half decent #nofakebeads P.S. I knew you'd say over application, I never fully get to grips with less is more, I'll try and be more disciplined. Nice tip on re-applying before buffing, thank you.

Defo have. Used hydropel on the door, boot and frunk shuts and the rims today. Nice an easy to work with, there’s enough of it to last a lifetime. Also, I don’t know if you noticed, but it smells amazing. Without wanting to highjack. Have you tried any of the Soft 99 waxes? Tried Water Block today after some recommendations. Looks amazing but a PITA to remove, super grabby, not sure if I left it on too long or too short. Was working two panels at a time.

Eeeeuuuuwwwww towel drying! On the positive side, you’ve definitely inspired me to break out the hydropel for the rims.

Awesome job organise and running this, great commitment to the club, thank you. Thank you to everyone who attended and secured another glorious title, credit to you and your Zeds. -
Good thing about going to the DC5 from the VXT, is that the hard ride will actually be something of a comfort upgrade for you. Totally agree with Dan on the silly money Tegs are, but I'd be looking for a slightly rough one and cleaning her up and hoping someone will pay 20 grand for it in future.

Hmmm, Hydropel you say. I don’t normally use up products that I have sitting in my massive pile of “things to try”, good shout.

For a good while I was happily using Car Chem Alloy Wheel Armour to apply a little top-up protection to wheels at every wash. https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=389378 This seems to have vanished from production (I have tweeted them to ask) but I can't see an obvious replacement. I'm not looking for a full on coating, which requires them to be spotlessly clean or taking wheels off, just a spritz on, leave, wipe off affair. Any suggestions? I've seen this and am tempted, as I've heard some decent feedback on turtle wax stuff recently - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/ceramic-coating/turtle-wax-hybrid-solutions-ceramic-spray-coating-500ml-351526.html

A return to form. This is suspiciously close to the useful product tests you used to do. Like it.

This feels wrong. Maybe its time for a change when you start doing this sort of thing to your car.

Wow, that is clean. -
Welcome along, post up in this forum and pop up some photos of your Z.

Takes about 100 years off the car! I've not yet found a sealant/wax/coating that provides unlimited UV protection.

You only get hairdresser jokes for one mini. If you have more than one, you move on to Estate Agent jokes. 😉

Amazing news. For a man who's in Hartlepool or Aberdeen, you had to go a long way to find an MOT centre that was prepared to sign it off How's she drive? -
Having followed this around all of Scotland this summer, I can confirm it's a gorgeous bit of kit. Properly quick and very well looked after by Col, some really nice quality of life mods in there too. GLWTS mate.

I thought the second ones were way better than the white ones - just goes to show it's very subjective!

Great job on the steering wheel, I did not know you could bring that material back from that state. -
I've always had to detail outside and for the longest time I had the mindset of you need to do everything all in one day, but it's so much easier to breakdown the car into small sections. You can nearly always get a full car wash in first, then if you have time, clay and polish a panel and then protect it. If you have more time, do two. It's not like the first panel you do will end up being dramatically more swirled than the last one, once you've done a few washes.
-
Gorgeous colour BTW. Next time I would suggest not to worry about the whole car, just find a test section with some of the bad swirls and work away at just that section with different, pad, polish, arm pressure and arm speed combinations. See what it takes to make just a small section 90% defect free, under a little light. This might take quite some time but if you find the right combination, then you can do the rest of the car one panel at a time, without time pressure or feeling you have to finish it up all in one session. If you wanted to go more aggressive, you could always step up to a microfibre pad and see what that does.
